Reminds me of my Dad, playing this song on either the 8 track or 16 track reel to reel player. Been a long time since I heard this song. He would have liked your singing. My Dad was from N. Ireland. Been a while since I was last over because of the pandemic. Ireland pulls at the Heart strings.
This song (dirge) is always played at traditional funerals in New Orleans. It’s played very slowly by a brass band leading to the cemetery. I am sure you are aware, New Orleans has a huge Irish population, henceforth, the Irish Channel section of the city, Parasols Tavern, amazing Celtic bands and our strange mixture of the Irish-Italian Parades with large floats held all over the city. I prefer the Irish floats because they throw cabbages, carrots and onions. 🍀☘️
Wow worlds really collide! I'm a southerner born and raised in Patsy Cline's home state of Virginia. Me and my grandmother were just listening to this song on the record player, then we listened to some gaelic music (we are heavily involved in our Scot-irish heritage and my grandmother belongs to the house of Burnett and Ward) which prompted me to listen to more online and I found you singing this exact song posted 18 mins ago!
