I doubt that anybody that goes to their show gets surprised that there are no original members left. If they are fans of the band, they know that. If you want to go and hear them play your favorite Skynyrd songs, you have that option and if you don't want to, you don't have to. I would never go to a Foreigner concert without Lou Gramm but I have no problem with anybody else having that option. To each his own.
Skynyrd lives on as it has in the past. It's not a tribute band. Over the years the new members were brought in actually endorsed by the existing members and were made musical brothers.
Here is the test that separates real from tribute. Have the new members recorded an album whose songs are played, alongside the classics, on the tour? If yes it is still the "real" band simply evolving. If no, it is a tribute band.
He admitted it what else do you want. Obviously people don’t care and haven’t for decades as they continue to do big business to this day. They also have great players including Michael and Damon Johnson who is playing in Gary’s spot
This guy is regurgitating this justification nonsense so smoothly because he has spewed ot out time and time again. This is how they have all convinced themselves calling themselves "Lynyrd Skynyrd" is ok. YES. By all means, keep playing the music. Keep their Legacy alive. Just dont call it Lynyrd Skynyrd because it is NOT. In fact, I offer a compromise in which you could Still use the Lynyrd Skynyrd name without trying to convince yourselves or anyone else that you are actually Skynyrd, and this will be accomplished by calling yourselves "NOT Lynyrd Skynyrd". That way, everyone knows you are trying to honor the band, but you are not actually trying to pretend you ARE the band and you still get to use the name. Sort of. Its a better solution than that sham nonsense you are purpetrating now. Because what you ARE, is "NOT Lynyrd Skynyrd".
Wow You seem like you are personally offended and harmed by what a rock band calls themselves. A rock band with 60 and 70 year olds no less. Relax please
If you don't want to see their show, you have an option to accomplish that, just don't go. Problem solved. Unless you personally have a financial stake in the band which I'm guessing you don't, why get your panties in a wad over it?
That's all they have been since '77 really. Although it was much more legitimate when Leon, Billy , Ed, and Gary were still in the band... But now, thats 1000% what they are. no bones about it.
I admire Michael Cartello's candour! The scenario that he initially found himself in when joining the band wasn't an unfamiliar one, or a necessarily desirable one, but none the less he has persevered, and i think he deserves at least 'some credit' for that!
It's not just Lynyrd Skynyrd, it's The Guess Who in which there isn'ta single member that was innthe original line up and Burton Cummings has just made it so that none of the fake band members can perform his songs, and now soon to be Foreigner as well, since Mick is no longer able to play or limited to playing time and Lou isn't planning on coming back. What's up with these so-called cover bands that think they can go out and play these people's music and act as though they were their songs??
@15tmun That may be so but apparently he didn't have anything to do with writing the songs because according to recent news Burton Cummings isn't allowing them to play any of his songs that he and Randy Bachman wrote. And he made it illegal for them to perform anywhere. I don't know how he's able to do that since I played in a cover band for 10 years and I never heard of anyone not being able to play someone else's songs. But it's true.
LS has been nothing more than a tribute band since '77. I was there at their last show at "The Brown Shoebox" or "The House That Flair Build" . If you know, you know. If not, You just believing what you're being told.
Michael failed to mention Artimus Pyle as an original drummer that is still performing Lynryd Skynyrd with the APB group. I’ve sang with him several times, Leslie Hawkins is also alive and both are plane crash survivors!!
Without either Gary Rossington or Ronnie Vanzant its a tribute band. No one else mattered like those two. NO ONE. Nothing against any of them but its just the fact. Even the Allman Brothers knew in their hearts it was a tribute band without Dickey Betts or Greg Allman. 100% support whoever legally owns the rights to Lynyrd Skynyrd earing money and doing whatever they wish with it though, and pray the bulk of it goes to the descendants.
HIs math does not jive. ZZ top has 2 of 3 OG members. There are ZERO members from the crash era with the band. Take your pick. Tribute or cover band, dealers choice. At least he is being honest about his band. Unlike the members of the Guess who. They introduce songs this way "THis is our first number one song in Canada"
Theres Thousands of people at every show, if people didnt want to hear this version of the band play the hits then they wouldnt keep buying tickets. People keep paying, they will keep playing.
@@daviddunn773 He rarely plays live anymore, or just for a few songs due to his health. To be fair I think they are finally calling it quits, unlike Skynyrd who will carry on for who knows how long.
Doug Gray is the only remaining member of Marshall Tucker, and I don't consider them to be the Marshall Tucker Band. I've followed them when Tommy and Toy Caldwell were living.
Bottom Line, its a 'Tribute' band, and a Disgrace ... Id only see a 70's / 80's band if at least 50% ORIGINAL members, but even then, it leaves a BAD taste in the mouth ... all these 'Oldies' are just doing it for the Money .. Can't blame them i suppose .. Not for me, .... Some things are best left as Memories, than this 2024 Rubbish
Now sense all are Dead and you are a cover Band ......... stop making money off of the original members backs and Blood go home u are not , Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The only way they will stop is when no one shows up for the shows are the ones in charge of the name lynyrd Skynyrd say it's over.So get over it ass hole
I enjoy the fact they are keeping the legacy alive. The beautiful part of the whole thing is the music hasn't suffered one bit. And they always make it obvious they're paying tribute to their departed sisters, brothers and family.
The talent doesn't match up to the original band.Maybe bring in Warren Haynes Artimus Pyle Chuck Leavell and a vocalist who could command the stage like Ronnie. The lineup they have now is definitely just tribute talent
