But as annoying as it is, this is an important job, so this week I'm going to show you how to clean and care for your vacuum!

well I am 14 years old and what seems boring to you is actually my hobby. I go to flea markets, thrift stores, goodwills, and even pawn shops to look for vacuums (specifically dysons) but any type of high end vacuum and fix them up and clean them up and refurbish them. then when I'm done with all that I either add it to my collection or sell it to make a pretty penny.

I also use a mask when cleaning my vacuum to prevent these tiny particles of dust to be inhaled. I am highly allergic to them. And even if you're not, they are really bad to your health so make sure you are protected

A seam ripper works really well to clean up a brush roller/beater bar. I find it even easier than snipping hair and thread off with scissors.

I LOVE my Dyson ! I LOVE it SO much, that I bought a second one for the second floor ! I love the fact that everything you will need is already on the machine. No digging through...which closet ?? I love the way it comes apart for cleaning and if something does get stuck, you can get to it very easily. I've had expensive vacs in the past, Filter Queen $1500. A Kirby $1500. and my mother's old Hoover. NONE of them worked as well as my Dyson.

To clean the INSIDE of the vacuum, you can use something like the drain weasel to pull out stuck hair from the attached tube/pipe. You can also use a long radiator brush. BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUNCTURE YOUR HOSE - try to straighten and compress it before putting anything in. Biggest tip: once everything else is clean, dry, and reattached, pour a cup or two of baking soda over a square foot of (clean) carpet and vacuum it up. It lightly scours the inside and also deodorizes it.

I love your videos, they are a great resource for me. I may be a little odd,, but I actually enjoy cleaning. I vacuum every day on the main floor, with my cordless Dyson which I absolutely love ( I have three dogs and a cat, plus grandchildren) but I also have a Shark Upright that I use for deeper cleaning. In fact I have a Shark vacuum in my basement, the main floor and the upper floor where the bedrooms are. Only issue I have with vacuuming is, my hubby can’t stand the sound of it, so I always wait until he is out running errands etc. Then I vacuum. I also try to mop the floors whilst he is out. SO they are clean for a little while at least.Another thing I enjoy doing, or should say I enjoy the finished product, is cleaning my stove top. My husband cooks a lot, God bless him, but I clean up after every meal. He tends to be a somewhat messy cook and there are always spills and ‘stuff’ on the gas stove top. I love taking it apart and cleaning it and when it goes back together, to see the clean surfaces is a joy to me. weird, I know.

I have a robotic vacuum. It's amazing. It's not a Roomba because they are too expensive. So I found a good one at Walmart (iLife A4s) for less than $200. I have it scheduled to vacuum every morning. It runs for about 2 hours and cleans my 1300 sq ft home and returns to it's base when it's done. I clean out the dust bin every other day which takes me about 30 seconds. It's part of my nightly cleaning routine. My hardwood floors and area rugs always look amazing. Btw, I have dogs.

Melissa, glad you guys decided to do this video. Truth is I hate vacuuming too, that was the chore I was always given since I'm a child! 😝 But, nevertheless, we tend to just worry emptying the canister or changing out the bag, and nobody thinks of actually cleaning the parts of the equipment. It's true making it clean as if you just bought it, will be beneficial in the long run! 😊

I loved “your Latin lover Manuel”. I bought the low end Dyson V6 after seeing you use the Dyson brand. I love that it is so light and that it is cordless, I have literally had wrestling matches with my Shark and the cord. I do wish the Dyson charge lasted a little longer, but I can deal with it. We live in a small townhouse and I am always looking how to reduce in size of items.

I love my Dyson. I have four teenage boys, and having a cordless absolutely increases the chances that they vacuum their bedrooms! Not having to trip over a cord is worth it’s weight in gold, and the ease of use makes sweeping, and just kicking dust back up into the air a thing of the past. 😁

I have the Shark Navigator Swivel Plus. It's the less expensive version of the Lift Away. I was coming from having used a $250 Electrolux Nimble that finally died & I found the Shark vacuums during my months of research. But I'd never owned a Shark so I was scared to spend over $200 again on one, so I bought this cheaper version (was about $115) thinking if I liked it in a year or so I'll upgrade to one of the Lift Away's. Happy to say I love this Shark vacuum! I do not miss having a headlight like I thought I would & it's SO much lighter! My Electrolux was a BEAST it was so very heavy, good exercise I guess though. Can't wait to try one of the Lift Away's some day.

I have a Dyson DC33 Upright Vacuum and I love it!! This model is only sold at Wal-mart so it was reasonable for a Dyson. I also purchased a couple of additional cleaning tools: Articulating Hard Floor Tool, Stiff Brush Tool and the Flat Out Tool. I LOVE the Articulating Hard Floor Tool! A broom is no longer needed for my kitchen/eating area. The Flat Out Tool allows you to get under furniture really well. Previously I used Hoovers and they were okay too.

I have a Hoover Whole House Elite vacuum. I replaced my Bissell(s) with this one because they just were not effective. I am a Navy wife and full time college student so it will be a while for a Dyson. The Hoover works great on collecting the 3 dogs fur and Florida sand that gets tracked in the house. Btw, mine is a commercial model that I got on special, I don’t know how it compares to the domestic version.

I use the dyson cordless vacuum~ got it as a Christmas gift and it's made me not hate vacuuming (because, really, who wants a haul a huge vacuum around and then try to find a plug?) I can just take mine off the charger and vacuum the floor, no problem. It's not a heavy duty vacuum but it does well on my carpets and tile. I've had a Dyson, but I broke pretty much as soon as the warranty ran out. So, now I have a Shark Navigator & I'm very happy with it. It was much less expensive, works great on my carpet & tile, keeps up with my crazy long hair & my huskies, and still has a 2 year warranty. I empty the collection canister multiple times while cleaning, but that's because I have huskies. And I clean the filter probably once a month. I've never cleaned the other parts, but I haven't had it for 6 months yet. I don't hate vacuuming. Happy cleaning :-)

I have a Dyson. Best vacuum I've ever owned. I have 2 dogs and 4 cats and carpets take a beating from them. It amazes me the amount of stuff my Dyson vacuums up. The first time I used it I had to empty the canister so many times. I had a high-end Electralux before and I thought it did a good job....lots of bags to always buy. Yes the Dyson is expensive but the fact that you don't have to buy bags (and run out of 'em) eventually evens out the cost.........My son bought me the little hand-held Dyson for Christmas (sweet boy) and it does a great job too. Also, it's pretty lightweight compared to other vacuums I've used and since I'm only 5ft it's a good size. Also the suction and power behind it is amazing. I have the Eureka Pet vacuum. It is a canister type and I love the job it does. However, the stretch hose is not long enough, the tool carrier won't stay on and the "pet paw" is held on to the unit by a button magnet which isn't strong enough, and the dust collector is difficult to replace after emptying. But I like the performance, it's a beast! I just washed the filter about a month ago.

How do you clean the vacuum hose?
@saladDressin
@saladDressin 5 лет назад
Linda Landry if the hose is not able to detach from the body of the vacuum don’t use water but rather an antibacterial wipe perhaps. To clean inside the hose try the largest size of “bottle brush”. It’s the only thing I can think of that will fit in that cylindrical tube shape of the hose. You can find them in a baby bottle isle or sometimes they come in packs of 3 sizes in a kitchen isle because people use the tiny size to clean the spout of a teapot. I hope this works!

Perfect timing on this video. My vacuum had been... well... sucking for months in spite of a clean filter. I turned it over to look at the beater head, and sure enough, it was utterly caked with cruft. After snipping at the threads and whatnot that were wound around the drum per your suggestion, I used a dental pick instead of a toothbrush to tease the matted crud out of the bristle strips themselves. It took 15 or 20 minutes and made quite a mess, but it's clean as a whistle downstairs now. My carpets are now no longer coated with dust and little tufts of cat hair left behind by the vacuum. I could get used to this.

What is your opinion on the Bissel Crossover wet/dry vac?? Or would u rather use dyson and a wet mop pad?

I have two Mieles! An upright for upstairs (all carpet) and a canister for downstairs (hardwoods and rugs). I love them both more than a person should love a vacuum. I also adore having a bag again, after years of canister type containers. My upright is actually in the shop because I DIDN'T clean it when I should have and the poor thing needs a spa day.

Dyson Animal. I did a head up comparison with my precious vacuum (ore just) and hands down the Dyson outperformed!!! I had two inside dogs and 1 cat. Getting all that hair picked up was possible with the Dyson. The con to the Dyson is it is a bit heavy to maneuver.

Does anyone have any advice? My husband put a powder over a spill, which is fine, but then he VACUUMED it. Now there is a ton of mud in the vacuum -_- any advice to clean mud out of the vacuum? It's new and I would hate to have to buy another so soon.

I have two Bissell's one 3 in 1 that is easy for me to handle and carry but it only seems to work on the tile floors so I use it in the kitchen and bathroom. the other one is a pet one. and it's hard to find replacement filters but it works if it's on the right setting for living room and bed rooms

I have a 'Shark' vacuum from Target. I found it a little more affordable. It works really well and it have been going strong for the 2 1/2 I have owned it. :-) It's close to Dyson but I think a Dyson is on the top list. :-) LOVE your videos! I am deep cleaning right now for visitors and I have been been binge watching! I have been using your tips and I am very impressed with how well they work and how much time they have saved me!

I have a Dyson Ball Multi Floor that I love!!! Actually I just cleaned it out a few days ago, I normally wash the canister out and clean off the brushroll every 3 months when I wash the filters just to keep it looking fresh and clean and performing at it's best.

Does anyone have any suggestion re vacuums designs for floors without carpet? I use a swiffer first and then the spray and clean cloths made specially for those kinda floors. Is that the best and most practical or would a specialized vacuum make my job easier? And what about those vacuums that roam on their own? How good are they? Would appreciate feedback. Thank you!

That filter you rinsed off first comes apart and you’ll be surprised the amount of crap that comes out of it. Use compressed air on the filters too.

I have a Bissell vacuum and whilst it does a decent job, I find that the hose hardly stretched at all without pulling the vacuum body right over! Is a stretchy hose TOO much to ask??? xx

I have a Bestron cannister vacuum. Don't know the type exactly, but it is dark grey with green. It is a good vacuum for the price. I bought it below 100 euro's. I want to have a compact vacuum for quik vacuuming. Like the Dyson that Melissa has, but than a more budget type one. I don't mind vacuuming. I almost love it. Good idea to clean my vacuum out. Next week is my holiday, so a perfect time to tackle that job.

We have hard floors throughout, but we have dogs that shed. We first sweep then we vacuum. We have tried uprights but go back to using a shopvac. Ok, it does sound like I live in a garage, but it allows picking up almost everything on the floor, and we empty it after a day long session. We did purchase HEPA filters for the vacuums that are Teflon/PTFE coated so they are fairly easy to clean with a few taps (or more aggressive taps, and this is ALL OUTSIDE) on a flat surface gets most of the stuff out. Often I use the air compressor (outside) and blow through the filter from the inside to the outside. That gets lots of fine stuff. Then I gently wash the outside of the filter with plain water and let dry. If I would put a cloth bag over the filter inside the vac, it would keep larger chunks out of the filter. Every 2 or 3 years I replace the HEPA filters, or just start using them for 'garage only' use. I empty the hair/dirt after every day long use, and do the filter cleaning whenever I start smelling the dog hair when the vacuum is on. I also wear hearing protection (nothing bulky but it cuts the noise several Db) while vacuuming. We have several small shopvac's. One on each floor (I hate carrying the vac's up and down stairs). When transporting the filters, I put them in a separate plastic bag from the general VAC effluent, just to get them outside for cleaning the filters.

Hi Melissa. thank you for sharing all what u do and know about cleaning. I am super lazy when it comes to cleaning. lol I love creating things (crafts) but cleaning ufff hehe..anyways. my husband and I were thinking on buying a Dyson but right know we still planning it...well I went to a vacumm store to get me a rubber that broke off from my old vacumm and the guy said I should buy a bag vacumm instead of dyson. what are your thoughts? he says all these vacuums from the TV are not as good as they say...of course he wanted to make the sale but I'm still studying it. ;)

I have the upright model of your Dyson, I love it so much, it was a birthday present from my husband about 4 years ago, just recently I discovered how to detach the canister from the motor for cleaning... it's like I have a brand new vacuum cleaner again!! 😂😂 lol but I do take very good care of it and I clean it out at least every 3 months or whenever it needs it.

I use to have a dirt devil that was only $50 and felt like it wasnt doing a good enough job even with keeping it clean. So after watching your videos I finally got a dyson hand held which I love and is enough to do my whole house. Thank you so much. If your think why would i spend that much on a vacuum trust me i thought the same but now that I own one I will never use a different brand again. Theres always sales and deals on these vacuums so if your in the market just keep an eye out.

Vacuuming is my favorite part of cleaning. I currently own a Bissell Powerglide Lift-Off Pet vacuum, and it's a really powerful vacuum for how budget friendly it is. However once I save up enough money I will probably switch to a Dyson. Either the Cinetic Big Ball canister, or if I move by then, the Dyson Small Ball.
