Just How Good Is The 22 Shimano Stella FK 1000?  

It probably depends how fast you want to retrieve the surface lure, but when it comes to lures like the Tiemco cicadas that like a slow roll retrieve and are very lightweight then a 1000 really comes into it's own! The other reel I would recommend that sits just below the Stella is the Twin Power, I just picked up a 1000 Twin power and it is phenomenal. The drag sounds better than the Stella in my opinion.

Hey mate, I've got Gosen PE0.6 on this reel.

Hey mate 🙂 I use a 3000 size reel and a 3-7kg rod for Big Snapper and Mulloway, it's probably on the lighter end of what you would want to use for them as I'm a bit crazy like that. A 4000 size reel with a 4-8kg or 5-10kg rod would probably be perfect for chasing them. Merch coming in the future, I've got some graphic designs for them though. Just need to get it made!

Hey mate, that is quite a wide weight range and it may be difficult to find something that will throw finesse lures through to something as heavy as 15g. The rod that will come close to being able to throw within that weight range is the Millerod BassFreak M that I'm using the Stella with in this Video. It has a 4-14g weight recommendation but I can throw lures less than 4g with it.

G'day Alex, the difference is the size. The 1000 is a finesse reel for smaller fishing Bream, Bass, Trout etc and as the number gets bigger the reel gets bigger as well. For Saltwater piers I would recommend the 2500, it is small enough to throw finesse lures like a 1000 but has enough power to handle bigger fish like Snapper and Mulloway. The 4000 and 5000 sizes don't throw small lures too well. Hope this helps 🙂
