In my childhood we used to joke that Jayasurya became destructive when he began to go bald 😂😅. Anyway in all seriousness , it was common to hear people say "Jayasurya has blasted us all over the ground." And if he was dismissed early then we had a great chance of winning. We would have a sigh of relief 😅. Anyway i remembered the ipl of 2008 or 2009 when Mumbai Indians were not really playing well in few early matches 6 or 8 matches i believe , sachin was also not there due to injury but the moment Sachin arrived to bat after missing out all those matches due to injury . Jayasurya just hit a crazy blitzkrieg of a hundred😅❤ in that match and we won that match . I dont remember who were playing against but that was his only hundred in IPL and we had won that match after losing back to back matches at the start of IPL . I think it was chennai or hyderabad team , i am not sure now . But yes that knock convinced me that if T20 cricket arrived in 1999-2000 then Jayasurya would have been the best, heck he would have broke Afridi's record of quickest hundred also for sure.😂 Anyway i miss Jayasurya even more today when i see today's plight of Sri lanka in Cricket. I miss that old Sri Lanka team from 90s and 2000s . They had a lot of great matchwinners who could take the game away from you instantly. Anyway i believe Jayasurya was Sachin and Sehwag combined in a player sometimes with ball spinning abilty which was deceptive sometimes almost on level of Warne, murali etc.

When he came on the scene he made bowlers and teams worldwide re-evaluate how they went about playing the game, especially in the early overs of a 50-over game. Amazing hitter of a cricket ball. It wasn't only Ranatunga who turned around Jayasurya. Jayasurya started opening for Sri Lanka probably from 1993/1994. The real change in his approach of slogging from ball 1 was brought about by Dav Whatmore who was Sri Lanka's coach for the 1996 World Cup. He along with Kaluwitharne started opening the Srilankan innings with an approach unseen of in those days. That's when Jayasurya really shined and became a household name across the cricket watchers. Sanath Jayasuriya initially being a bowler (left arm orthodox) / allrounder who could bat a bit is nothing but a myth, to say the least. Certain people who had followed only the international games (Tests and ODIs) may have propagated it, mainly due to the fact that his first genuine match-winning performance representing Sri Lanka at the highest level came as a bowler when he took 6 wickets for 29 in an ODI against the touring Englishmen at Moratuwa in '93 (where Aravinda De Silva too joined in during the run chase and made a blistering 75* to seal the game for Sri Lanka in a quick time ...). However, it had been more of an experiment back then in order to utilize Jayasuriya's skills as a decent utility bowler too, nothing more. But the fact that he had taken only a handful of wickets in the first class games up until that ODI, and had been used as a bowler only occasionally too until that point, shows that Jayasuriya had been a specialist batsman from the very beginning who unfortunately couldn't initially secure the top order slot he deserved primarily due to the already settled/established seniors like Mahanama, Gurusinghe, De Silva, Ranathunga, Tillakaratne, etc. who had been representing Sri Lanka then. In addition, Jayasuriya had to fight and overcome the unfavorable prejudices and opinions too some others held towards him to get the slot he deserved, both at the beginning ('89/90-'93) and at the twilight/end (2005/06/07-2010) too of his international career .... Despite the slot no.07 granted to him initially in the Sri Lanka XI, Jayasuriya came into the side in '89/90 having scored 2 double hundreds & another hundred too in Pakistan representing Sri Lanka Second XI (which was then known as Sri Lanka B team, not A team ...) against Pakistan Second XI. Then he made a couple of hundreds captaining Sri Lanka Under-24 side in South Africa in '92/'93, scored another 150+ too against the touring Indians in '93 at the Welagedara stadium in Kurunegala representing Sri Lanka Board President's XI. In the meantime, he had scored quite a few quickfire half-centuries too in the limited opportunities he had got in Test Cricket despite his record in ODIs being relatively poor/modest as a batsman, until he was promoted to no.3 in late '93 in an ODI held against Pakistan in Sharjah when Sri Lanka were chasing 300+. Sri Lanka lost that game by a considerable margin, still Jayasuriya managed to score almost a run-a-ball 50+ against the strong Pakistani attack which included the likes of Akram, Younis, etc.. Another even more quickfire 60+ followed in the subsequent game too against the same opponent (which happened to be Abdul Qadir's final appearance on the international stage.), thus justifying his inclusion as an attacking batsman at the top-order .... This had been almost 2 years prior to the arrival of Dev Whatmore as the coach, and T.B. Kehelgamuwa had been the team/Cricket manager for the tour .... In a few month's time, he was partnering Mahanama as an opener in ODIs. He did it with some success, scoring quite a few half-centuries and his maiden ODI century (140) too which he scored against New Zealand during the Mandela Cup held in South Africa in late '94. During this period '94-'95, he opened the innings in ODIs with the likes of Mahanama and Gurusinghe too, before the wicket-keeper batsman Romesh Kaluwitharana was drafted to open the innings with Jayasuriya during the Benson & Hedges series held in Australia in '95/'96 thus attracting the whole attention to this dynamic pair. Amidst all these in ODIs,, the selectors and the team management were still quite skeptical on making him an automatic choice for the Tests. His solid 180 against SSC in the finals of Sarawanamuththu trophy '95 (the then premier league in the domestic circuit), and his subsequent hundred in the 3rd Test against Australia in early '96 only a few weeks before the Worldcup '96, eventually helped him secure his deserving place in Tests too starting from '96. It's only after this that he caught the attention of the most followers of the game as an attacking batsman at the top representing Sri Lanka in both formats; Tests and ODIs .... 26 of his 42 international hundreds (across the two formats; Tests & ODIs) have been scored outside of Sri Lanka, 23 of them have been against formidable opponents excluding the minnows of his day (Bangladesh, Netherlands and Zimbabwe), 13 of them have been scored in Australia (04), New Zealand (02), England (04), South Africa (02) and West Indies too (01 - The one he scored against Bangladesh there has been excluded .... Only the one against West Indies has been considered ....). These are pretty decent figures considering the fact that Jayasuriya had been an ultra-explosive batsman in an era where/when such batsmen were only a rarity unlike now in this rather commercially-exploited batting-friendlier version/circus of modern day .... I'll finish off here by mentioning this too .... I had never been an admirer of Jayasuriya's certain infamous off-the-field exploits especially after 2009-2010 or so, we'd be better off skipping them here ..., due to many reasons too !!! .... Apparently, they too played a rather critical role in his decline as a player during his twilight years, especially in Tests (By the end of his 94th Test where he made the last of his 14 Test centuries in Pakistan, Jayasuriya had scored 6388 runs in Tests with an average of 43.45. His record in tests declined quite heavily since then until his retirement after his 110th Test. As a batsman, he could have achieved even more in either format had he properly analyzed and re-branded his game quite clinically especially during his final few years (Post 2005 or so - At least in Test Cricket where his record deteriorated quite heavily towards its final stages during 2005-2007....) .... Nevertheless, an era-defining player for sure whose contribution seems to be somewhat overlooked by the present day generation quite unfortunately .... [Sri Lanka's present-day situation is utterly hopeless/dismal, in fact on multiple fronts, that's accepted without any hesitation whatsoever. That being said, they had at least a history which shouldn't be overlooked, and had produced some game-changing contributors/players too in their past ....]

Indians Robbed the name of *Master blaster* from jayasuriya to Sachin. But these fools don't know the meaning of master blaster😂 it doesn't mean just hitting the ball. It means hitting the ball with no mercy. When did sachin used to blast the ball like Jayasuriya? When did he played like a maniac? Never. Sachin was more of a consistent batter with elegant skills. His skills with the bat was awesome. Technically he was a run machine. But not a blaster😂 So gentlemen, There's only one master blaster: *Sanath Jayasuriya* There's one and only king: *Sir Vivian Richards* There's only one magician: *Muralitharan* There's only one rawalpindi express: *Shoaib Akthar* There's only one king of swing: *Wasim Akram* There's only one prince: *Brian Lara* That's the reality.

Jayasuriya was on 189 , he went for six and glory to surpass 194 highest score in odi by saeed also against India ! He was so exhausted and he missed the world record but he had a lot of deliveries left .. it clearly suggests that he never played for centuries.. he just played to dominate!

90’s kids believed he had an iron rod in his middle of the bat. After Jayasuriya I saw Destructive batter Shewag only. Afridi once said in social media what Jayasuriya have started I continued Akram got in entire career just only 16 Sixers few of those by Jayasuriya I met Jayasuriya at around 50yrs of his age still his both legs calf mussels remain same. You may noticed how he bats in road safety matches in Sri Lankan legends check RU-vid how his willow sounds. just wow!! He ended career of Manoj prabakar & R P Singh too By the way first ever IPL 100 by him only since then I’m MI fan since 2018
