Now THIS is what you call artistic - not only embracing the culture of Greece but embodying the true spirit of the Olympics ! Beautiful performance - the pride of the actors participating is tangible.
@@bellatordei3440 and...?? U r aware the Ancient Greeks were polytheists, and Pagans...?? This was before Constantinople came along & ruined all that we know as culture...🙄😒🥱 moving along ✨️
At first I thought they were statues, but when I realized that they moved I realized that it is a great recreation of an art as classic and beautiful as Greek sculptures. S'Agapo Hellas 🇪🇦🇪🇨💖🇬🇷
@@zanashta6564your definition of fascist is pretty disrespectful to people who have lived through such nightmares. Goes to show how spoiled, privileged, and out of touch you are.
Classic, classy, elegant, timeless, exposing Olympic culture and national culture (which in this case are the same thing). Beautiful. How did we go so far down in just 20 years?
Best opening ceremony ever!!! Respectful and with purpose- it took you on a voyage of Greek history starting from the Minoan civilization. Incredible!!!!
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 Mate don’t get me wrong, I really liked the London ceremony as well, however, I think they could have done it a bit better by bringing more important cultural influencers from the whole UK and I’ve noticed that it was hard for the crowd to sometimes understand what it is that UK is showing as a cultural reference, if you know what I mean. Loved the whole presentation of the industrial evolution!! Loved the choirs, loved that they sang in English, Gaelic, Welsh AND Scots , it was very inclusive and beautiful to watch.. but.. 😄 The difference with the Greek ceremony is that it was full of cultural & artistic references, from the beginning until the end, including the first ever ancient Olympic Games (!) and the Egyptian empire which coexisted with the Ancient Greek empire as well. It was more impressive & artistic to me, that’s all 🙏🏻
@@Whatnowworld London 2012 closing one is bit bland. There's a scene where the performers depicted the Industrial Revolution (a massive turning point of History) I love Greece, it's beautiful place despite the drought in the countryside. My Mother don't like it. She's hypocritic
This is still the best Olympics Opening ceremony for me, bar none! Not even Beijing 2008 could come close. The historical significance of the return of the Olympic games in its origin is so poignant and emotionally stirring.
@@Levguy140 Basically lol. I also love the difference between how they portray human bodies and nudity. Artistically, they're able to show it in a normal way, not perverse for cheap shock value.
@@Whatnowworld Just because you didn't understand the cultural and historical references doesn't make them not there. My Parisian friends were loving it and pointing out so many things that I as an American didn't understand. But I suppose you would have only "got it" if they dressed up as mimes with giant baguette props.
Joe W. Says: The Ancient Greeks were PAGANS! And the sculptures were PAINTED!!! 2-3 Hundred years ago, when other Europeans were pirating Classical [ancient] Greek Sculpture and taking it home to England or France or elsewhere, they painstakingly removed any traces of original Color, preferring Shining White Marble!
@@cuucnsbfl9913they also had painted “statues” in the ceremony (minoans). This is a ceremony that celebrates all of greece, and white marble, even if historically incorrect in some instances IS a symbol of greece
@@DahonGoneThe ancient greeks were pagans at the time their Olympic Games took place. Christianity arrived and was adopted by the greeks, if I'm not mistaken, centuries later. These two things don't overlap. I recommend doing some research.
Its Home is the mountain not the country. Because the modern greek state has nothing to do cultural with the ancient greek, that got fully destroyed soon as the ottomans took over byzanz.
@@edelweiss-Rome and east Rome influenced by the Greek art and culture - especially East was Hellenizated the most bcs of the Greek language and population Ottomans was an islamic culture society who influenced nothing the Christian west based on the GrecoRoman civilization You can cry more and more Greeks shares their genetics from their ancient ancestors and have the same language for 3600 yrs Olympus mountain and Olympia ( where games born) are different lol
I was too young to remember watching this but even years later I can feel the awe of the universe watching this cleverly artistic display of their important history
This brought tears to my eyes😢😢😢❤ I loved it! Olympics, welcome home🇬🇷! Where it should be with dignity, grace and the spirit of fair sport ! AVE OLIMBOS! We want Olympics to be as 2004
@@-Mitra-Do you call it tasteless because you don't like the culture and history of another country? Or is it because it is the culture and history of Russia? 🤔
Now this is actually beautiful and amazing and it’s also showing like the beautiful feminine and masculine Beauty Absolutely stunning and they did a great job
France had absolutely _NOOO_ idea what they were doing. Now this, THIS is amazing..! Greece succeeded in combining sports, art, culture and history into a respectful ceremony.
Paris gave me the creeps, but this always give me the chills, it’s so beautiful and so powerful I can feel myself being transported to Ancient Greece this is the standard for opening ceremonies
I feel like the Olympics should always be held in Greece as it is its “true home”. Maybe the winter games can be held at Mount Parnassos, another very ancient and culturally significant Greek site.
I was impressed oh how much hard work they re-created it while making a huge performance that must've of taken weeks to do so definitely give props to all the hard work for the opening ceremony
This is pure class …. Can someone please send this to the French Olympic committee and Thomas Jolly. The Paris 2024 Olympic opening ceremony is an anathema and a complete disgrace. Greece should take back the Olympic Games and take control
I came here to be reminded of how great the Olympics was and is supposed to be. After that disgusting mockery of the Olympics history and tradition itself that happened in Paris. Thank you, Greece!
first time to watch the Athens 2004 opening ceremony here in RU-vid short and the full video. i watched this after watching the paris opening ceremony. I'm curious about the previous Olympic opening ceremony after the controversy associated with some of Paris Olympic opening ceremony. Greeks are wonderful. they really showcase the rich culture of their country. No religious mocking. Just pure MINIMALIST PERFECTION.
@PikaChu-vv9hj we can still focus on bigger problems while calling out nonsense like the Paris Olympic opening. Compare the beauty of this video to the blasphemous, eyesore this year. You're lying to yourself if you don't see that as eveidence of the regression of society.
