@@ImNotFunny541 1998 is the year where the 6th generation of video games started, it would end in 2013 when the ps2 was discontinued. The 7th Generation would also start in 2005 when the Xbox 360 was released. MGS2 was released in 2001, so its very much in the range of the 6th generation of video games thats why its there. (If you're asking why mgs2 was one of the first games in that segment, thats because I didnt include any Sega dreamcast games, which was released in 1998, which I forgot to add 😅)
i was about to comment the same thing. theres no "only hyperealism is good" "only hard games are good", its just good games. people scoff at 'kids games' way too often, if you need to be a kid to be happy ur doing it wrong.
What I love about this is it's just a love letter. Full stop. It's not reminiscing about some old past or lamenting that "things are not the way it was", it's just celebrating the best of the medium. Fucking amazing.
Started playing TF2 in 2020...I feel like I've been through so much, in yet such a small amount of time. Truly a timeless masterpiece, never to truly die.
Unironically nothing better than thinking “oh but surely this super cool edit won’t have my favorite game” and then seeing literally almost all your favorite games that you thought people didn’t care about as much like ori, or Sky, because some people don’t view them as “real games”. I think the only game I frequently play that I didn’t see was warframe XD this edit is awesome because of how many different genres and stories it incorporates to show just how vast gaming is as a storytelling method and a community!
You have no idea how much I love this, this shows all the greatest moments in video game history. To the very first Pong to much more recent hit like Elden Ring and Helldivers 2, without forgeting to include classic like Half-Life, Resident Evil,Halo, Doom and Indie hits like Hollow Knight, Cuphead,The Stanley Parable, Omori & much much more. This should have WAY more views cause this is beautiful
Not to mention more niche games that never really made it to the mainstream. Sky, wandersong, lego city, of all things, and one shot. All great examples.
Of course anyone can say that: “Oh you forgot this game! You forgot Hotline Miami! You forgot TBOI!” and dozens of others indie games, but your work is priceless. This video slaps!
Arthur makes me cry everytime i see that clip. Playing RDR doesnt feel like playing a videogame, but controlling someones actual life, and we end up actually caring about Arthur. We go, treat him good, feed him, get him bath, sleep, we take care of our horse, this game makes us LOVE what we have in it, and when it all comes down its just so painful. RDR2 to me is, and always will be, the best game ever created in the history of humanity, and nothing will ever change that to me.
Sometimes i tend to forget that gaming is actually fun Edit: I got a small channel where not a single video would receive as many likes as this comment, which i posted while being drunk. I f0k1n h8 youtube
to me, videogames are definitely the best media of all time. they really immerse you into the story itself and so many masterpieces have come to light with it. amazing edit!
Bro managed to condense 60 years of video game history into 2 minutes, with one pertinent frame for each game, while delivering the best drop known to mankind at 2:02.
It even had Sky and Journey... Henry Stickmin, Little Nightmares, Oneshot, Omori, Celeste, Signalis... All in a row. So many of Team Fortress 2, The last of Us and even Assassin's Creed 3 in specific. None shall forget of ULTRAKILL as well! Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Ori. It is indeed, you marked "the best part" perfectly. And there's still so much more of it i just didn't realise i notice. You need to watch it at least twice, maybe thrice even.
As a 13 year old, I LOVE old games as well. New games don’t always hit the same, but some do, it’s just that big companies forgot the spirit, while individuals that never worked for a game know how to make a game.
2:15 JETPACK JOYRIDE MENTIONED!!!!! jokes aside though, this edit is absolutely incredible, it popped up on my homepage and it's just,,, wow. to think we started from bulky boxy machines that could only display a few coloured pixels, to meticulously detailed, expressive and memorable masterpieces that will persist in our collective memory for a thousand lifetimes is amazing. i love how much gaming has evolved over the years and i'm excited to see where it goes next :D
I discovered Until Then thanks to this video, I liked it from the few frames I saw here, bought it and played it completely blind and it gave me exactly the feeling you're talking about
Creativity isn’t dead until it’s dead. Banger games - even at least 1 or 2 - are put out each year. The collection almost never shrinks, it only grows. I’m really glad you put this together. Well done.
Dude I cannot explain the emotion that this video has given me. A reminder how awesome and vast the greater gaming community is. This is the pinnacle of my 3 am doomscroll, thank you for being some light in this random night lol. Going into my favorites playlist. Hope you're doing well, lad.
On my knees weeping at this sight, I even saw Sky: Children of the Light and Journey in the mix. Honestly the best gaming edit I’ve ever seen, actually beautiful!
You resumed my whole childhood in just 2:47 minutes of a video. I played so many games in those you showed. I feel old knowing that some game i played are unknown to many people now this years 😭
i was so caught offguard when i saw ivy from the game intro here - but thats also when i knew this was a REALLY good video that was about, truly, living in the moment still though, cytus’s intro is just. chefs kiss. if i see any frame of it anywhere you know im gonna be surprised and double back to it HAHA
@@Inspironing Oh, for sure. It also really helped me understand the story as I didn't get it at all for like my first ten hours or so. That alone makes it peak. x)
Makes me proud to be a Gamer Thank you for including Half Life, Undertale and Omori🙏🙏🙏 I love them and I wasn't expecting to see them appearing on a Video Game history AMV. Edit: Awesome AMV btw
@@idkwhattotype511 Yeah, yeah, I know it has a bad rep but I met a lot of great people and friends through that game, and it just got me so immersed into the storyline, the scenery, and the characters. It definitely impacted my life in a way
Having Arthur in the now I'm ready part of the song was honestly the perfect choice that I don't think to many people talk about, Arthur's time nearing with him finally accepting that he shall pass soon giving everything else he has to save John, the way you set everything up was amazing, I hope you get to see this because you truly did an amazing job for such an underrated video. Thank you so much for it!!
It’s absolutely how much we’ve gained over the years, and don’t forget the ones we’ve lost. Rest in peace to those who couldn’t experience what we have now.
You know, sometimes it's just nice remembering past games that you played and enjoyed. Also respect on having variety, I seen lots of people saying stuff like "gaming isn't fun anymore" but I think the problem they have is playing the same game all the time.
Not a single mention of 'golden era' of gaming, just pure appreciation of the media which is amazing. I like how you put different kinds of genre of games because many games has its own unique artistic vision and that what makes video games so special, diverse, colourful and memorable. Truly, art in modern form. Hats off, Edit of the Year!
I love the fact that tf2 is shown with the other more "modern" games, despite the fact that it came out in 2007. Just goes to show what a timeless masterpiece the game is, and the dedication of the community.
Some people express certain sadness when we look back at the past and we start to think of the good times, but don't feel bad, be happy because you lived those wonderful moments, and now try your best to help the new generations to feel the same feelings you had at that time. Beautiful video!
i’m so happy that dishonored got featured in this. It really seemed like nobody cared about that series except me. Thank you! (oh and the sonic, red dead and assassin’s creed feature was obvious but well appreciated as they are also my favorite franchises!)
Since this video is blowing up, i just wanted to announce something to new viewers: My (nonexistent) upload schedule will be slowing down due to school starting in a few days so sadly, probably no new videos for a while. My next video will probably be either roblox again or some other gaming edit (though im still deciding on what to do so who knows) One last thing, thank you all for watching this!!! I never would've expected this video to blow up so fast, this is the most attention i've gotten on any of my videos so thank you!!!
What a beautiful edit, games are the thing that most revolutionized the world so far, games can connect people, make them socialize, learn lessons, appreciate great stories, live good moments and reflect, you deserve a lot of recognition Dude this edit was amazing❤❤❤❤
Every year, there is someone on the Internet that reminds us of how movemental this medium has become over the last 60 years of existence. Have fun when gaming, always.
That small cut of A Space For The Unbound, though. Damn. Nearly got those tears from 2 years ago right back in my eyes when I saw the ending. You're a Godsend, man
That was legitimately one if the best videos I've ever seen. I'm not gonna lie, I cried. Of course, this not even 3 minute video doesn't include every video game franchise, that's impossible to do in this short amount of time, but it covers just enough to remind me why I love video games. And that's beautiful.
based on the title i was fully expecting this to be like "old games were good, but now, games are bad". i'm really glad that my prediction was wrong! the editing was amazing too! great job!
I absolutely love this love letter of an edit to gaming. I’ve genuinely watched it like a million times in a row I love it so much. Video gaming has always been a huge part of my life and I love researching and finding out new things about the history or background of the media as a whole, and I LOVEEE THIS. It feels so positive and loving, kinda like it’s a “thank you” note to video games. Thank you for making this, honestly. 🙏
Not alot people would even mentioned tennis for two, its such an important part of video game culture in such a way I don't think people realized. So it's nice seeing it mentioned like this.
Gaming used to be fun. Now it's fun depending on what game you play. I may still be young, but thanks for the nostalgia, it brought a smile to my face even seeing classic games like Halo CE to a small mobile game (Clumsy Ninja) on my screen.
This makes me think about just how new video games are. My grandparents aren't even THAT old and they were born well before tennis for two was made. My aunt was born before they started getting popular. We are Sumerians at the beginning of written narrative, Egyptians at the dawn of theatre, witnessing the first steps of this young medium of art. Who knows what kinds of things people will be doing with it in the far future? What will 30th century gaming scholars consider the most important and best of the games being made today?
Hey there KnubKnight! Just wanted to say i appreciate the sheer diversity of games you showed off from all different genres. When it got to the PS2/3/Xboxy session and theres a large armount of shooters like Cod and others, I was pleasantly surprised by seeing other titles from that time period, and all the indie games that came after that. I also notice you picked the best possible scenes from these games which in somecases might not even make it obvious which game it is. For example, for little nightmares you used The Lady just standing there (menancingly) which to most people wouldn't make it clear it was LN without Six in the Iconic Yellow Raincoat. I love this 'cause it shows you've clearly played the game and enjoyed the artistic shot of The Lady standing and even though it only appears for a brief flash, there's hundreds of other great snippets you chose as well. I also loved seeing both The Last of Us part 1 and 2 separately. As we all know, Part 2 is a VERY divisive game, so I'm glad to see both made it in on their own merits, and I also like the decision to show games that haven't been released yet (like GTA 6 amongst others) as it'll only age well. Honestly, this edit was lovely, you have a genuine talent for timing too and how you spaced it all out and organised the clips. Well done
I fucking love this comment and I cant believe I havent replied to it yet (I swear I did when you commented this).)the fact that someone like you made a comment this long about my video is amazing as it truly showed that you loved it. (Also, I think that all of these clips are recognizable and that I think Tlou 1 and 2 are both pretty good (idc about story, i just like the brutal gameplay) Thanks for this comment man, i loved it :D
