Great video!! Im playing off of 16 and just traded in my sim2 max irons for these and they actually feel alot better to hit and more forgiving. A little less distance which is annoying as it something i struggle with on my irons but very happy with these so far! Time to get dialed in with them.
James regardless of how I spelled "piqued", your swing is one of the major reasons I watch your videos. Our body types are similar and I try and emulated your swing from the driving range to the first tee. Watching your videos has helped my swing ten fold!1 keep those videos coming.
My son just got these,I’ve tried them down the range and they do have fantastic feel. I use srixon forged irons and there’s not a lot difference if any in feel. Certainly more forgiving than mine !
After two rounds with those irons , my elbow pain disapears after many years suffering with it . I bought it with graphite shaft ok? Also knowing that my swing speed 7 iron is 88 MPH but was thinking on my arms pain, i can only say WOW!! All is perfect but the feeling when you hit those clubs are beeuuuttiiiffuuuulllll
great video been waiting for this test and yes please would love to see your test of the new callaway pro irons to see how they compare to the p790 irons I am torn between the two irons leaning toward callaway pro irons just love the look of them thanks James
TM irons are so well done, but James, I've watched you for about 5 years, and I am sure that you can hit almost every shot with nearly any set of irons. The exception is the Rickie Fowler blades. Enjoy the weekend!
I’m a 6 handicap, I’ve just bought TM STEALTH HD , because I like them and I play well and confident with them, I’m also kind of crack handed , I played with a +4 crack hander who played blades, a lot of the you tube golfers say clubs are for certain handicap, surly whatever fits your eye and you get on with them then that’s what u use. Some people won’t look at clubs if they think there aimed at certain people.
I began playing golf in July this year. I’m 37 years old. I bought a set of Stix. Those got sold by the end of August. I now have P790’s in the bag, ping 3,5,7 woods, 3 wedges and a putter. I have a driver but I never use it. No reason when my 4 iron carries 210 down the middle of the fairway off the tee. Absolutely love these irons. Game changer for sure. I’m a 19 handicap if that helps anyone. Also. Stix suck.
I’m not a rocket scientist but if Taylormade used the same forging process like the P7MB’s and all the good stuff in the P790’s……… it would be unbeatable. I love my P790’s but the metal is so soft and don’t withstand 1 year of play. My P7MB’s are almost indestructible, don’t get me wrong……..it can still get beat up if you smash balls of the cart path.
Did the fitting and even though the distance gained was minimal with the same shaft the dispersion, spin and height is superior on the 23s vs my old 21s.. Getting them tomorrow!
Very good review James A lot of good reviews on the p790 by others on u tube as well I like it your were hitting low high shots etc nearly everyone like you really does rate them apart from RS you could not hit them I do not use them just like a honest review well done 10/out of 10
Hi James do you think they are a direct competitor to the Callaway Apex Pro, I thought they were aimed at the better golfer, bring on the dual, maybe include the PXG you had in the bag as well
I have enjoyed my earlier model (2019) and I'm hoping I like the new model as much, hopefully more. I've only played one round but they do seem to work a bit better than the older models. Drastically? No but they do feel good.
Get what you pay for…. Pretty sure that is tried and true with just about everything in life… takomo irons aren’t even close to the same quality and technology as TAYLORMADE but hey not everyone can afford $1399 for irons and that’s why irons like takomo exist…. Cheers mate ⛳️🙂👍🏼
@@silverlionbladesthis is it right here. Everyone raves about the takomo irons, they are good but they aren’t even close to p790s. I used a set of takomo 101s for a few months and am using 2021 p790s now, the 790s feel much better, are more forgiving, and don’t most importantly I don’t catch fliers with them half the shots like the takomos
When you gain 15 yards on your irons, lose no workability and the clubs look and feel great it's hard not to trade up for these. I got fitted for these after playing Mizuno MP-18's for years as an 8 handicap. Do they feel like a Mizuno? No, but they feel different in a good way.
@@BigDawgCAMCheck out ping i230’s, best iron on the market. Go hit em and tell me im wrong. Been golfing for 38 yrs, many sets from many manufacturers and i230’s are by far best club ive ever hit. Consistent, forgiving, straight, spin, workable, peak height, descent angle, easy to hit…what more could you want from a club?
@@BigDawgCAMI compared the Mizuno 225 and it was a bit longer, but not as tight of dispersion for me. It felt good though, but I was just better with the 790
I wish Taylor made would offer 600$ off of the new p790 irons if you turn in your current p790 iron set for 2016 and newer p790 irons. 400$ off for burner rsi2, 300$ off for r7 Then for 700$ they would have a bunch of current customers upgrading their clubs. The current valuations for 300 for a set of iron trade in is nothing compared to how much we have already paid Taylor made buying irons not to mention the r7, and two burner sets I have purchased in my lifetime for my son
Tried them, but hate the top line. I also didn't find the feel all that great. They performed really well, but I don't want to get sick at looking at them down at the ball. Love your channel, James. Thanks for the daily content.
So tired of everytime I watch a video on my favorite brands like TAYLORMADE and Titelist I hear everyone talking about how “TAKOMO” irons are so much cheaper 😂 then why the hell are you watching videos on TAYLORMADE and Titelist irons if you think they are too much and don’t want to “waste” the money when takomo irons are half the price! Be gone trolls! Enjoy your half price irons and leave the big boys to buy and play the best 🙂👍🏼⛳️😂
Disagree that previous generation P790 cannot hit low and high shots. I still have my original P790s and they are very workable. Reason i stopped playing them were the jumpers. Well struck shots would go easily 10 and sometimes 15 yards longer. Love the videos keep it up.
What with Caley 01T ,Takomo , Sub 70 , Kirkland and even the Ram 77 all hollow bodied iron designs..these Taylor Made are starting to look seriously overpriced nowadays.
No comparison, the i59’s are much better. If you like the i59’s then you would drool over the i230’s. I play them and are the best irons i have ever hit in 38 yrs of playing golf. Consistency and accuracy are off the charts and easier to hit than CB’s or players distance. Check em out, you wont regret it.
Here’s my concern with them. 1) in the exact configuration as my Stealths, they are $400 US more for 5-AW. If I trade in my 1 year old irons they only offer me $440 for them. The retailer has used Stealths instock with $900 on them. So, I would have $2000 in two years in a set of irons. I’m going to just pass. The ones I have will hit just as many balls in the woods and the P790s. 😂
@JamesRobinsonGolf thanks mate. So the problem is that the old version are so good, how can they make these ones better right? Sounds like they've maybe done it?🤷🏼♂️
Sorry but tried these a few weeks ago and no different to my ping i20s, I'm a 6 handicapper and made no difference to my flight and distance, I had p790 2021s sold them as the same
@@MXJEFF94 correct mate...I've never understood this concept of going to a smaller harder to hit iron once your single figures 🤷 learn how to hit shots and your flight it can be done 👍 that's what I've learnt and my zx4s are amazing
@keepreelinwithjay4351 dude you say that over and over again lol. They tell you up front it's 6 to 10 weeks or you can just order heads and get them in a few days and buy your shafts locally.
TM makes great irons. Perfect? Certainly wouldn’t go that far. I’m a 6 handicap and still play some old ass Ping i10 irons. They suck (completely subjective) in comparison to todays irons, but I can still play great (again, subjective 😂) golf with them. And this is why I can’t justify $1500 US for new irons. Half the price and I’d have a bag full of new (Titleist) irons. Lifestyles of the rich and shameless (just kidding) Great video, James!
You've heard wrong. I've had every generation of P790's (including the 2023, which are in my bag currently) and they are way more forgiving and long. They optimized each individual iron.
For brand new clubs you sure presented them in a less than attractive condition. Looks like a child has been fingerpainting glue all over them. Presentation does count for something.
@@JamesRobinsonGolf I realise that and yeah, it's a bit petty. Still, part of the thrill of new clubs is their new appearance. You're reviewing a brand new set of irons that many people are interested in and they look shabby. It was a bit of a turn off to be honest. Sure, they do get dirty when playing. I wipe my clubs down after each shot. OCD...maybe a little but I also like looking at a shiny club without a ton of dirt and grime all over it. Oh, and these are the 4 Gen, not 3rd just to clarify. What would be a really good test is if reviewers put them back to back with previous gens. Especially 1st and 2nd. Players with the 3rd gen are less likely to upgrade to these next versions.
I went from 921F to 2021 P790 and I like them more. They are not as soft (of course) but they aren’t harsh and feel more powerful and I hit more greens which is what I wanted. 921F are beautiful and feel great. But I want to score
@@matthollis1270I came back to golf after 30 years and playing blades to buying the 2022 P790’s and I just thought they were really loud and they also marked very easily. I swapped to the 921 forged that feel a lot better but still go very far which I don’t really need and probably need to have the 921 tour but I didn’t know how I’d play
Problem for me is the strong lofts. Means I need to add extra gap wedges in the bag. When the 7 iron total yardage is 207, it throws off the whole set. How about not naming irons with numbers but instead with degrees of loft?
I do love the look of these. The price leaves a bit to be desired considering some other options such as Takomo or possibly the new kirklands that look similar as well.
