1:14:00 That one guy is actually correct. Firing one Halo ring fires them all. The Ark thing chat is thinking of is “if a Halo ring prematurely shuts down, every Halo ring goes into standby mode and can be remotely fired from the Ark”. The Ark is a safe zone, but the Prophet isn’t dumb enough to think he’d get to Earth, find the portal, and go through it before the ring activated. There’s main three reasons the Prophet wants to get to Earth. One: The Prophet can get to the Ark from there in case something goes awry. The fact that he will wreck Earth in the process is a bonus. Two: In the first game, Masterchief blew up the Halo ring that would’ve covered the majority of humanity’s little bubble of space. Earth is currently in a Halo-free safe zone. Obviously, the Prophet still needs to be stopped to save the portion of humanity that will get hit by the other rings. Three: Bad writing because this game was rushed with several cut levels, including the original planned ending on Earth and the ending warthog rush. I got curious after the stream and looked all this up. Twitch chat tends to be the worst possible place for lore. Edit: Wait! My brothers and I got in an argument about this exact thing when we played Halo 3 in 2007! Typing this explanation out unlocked some Jimmy Neutron brain blast of memories!😂

You know, I wasn't sold on Matara before the Halo series, but I've really come to enjoy her goofiness. She's nice.

Most of the ruins on Halo rings are actually for humans when they were housed on the rings during the war between the Forerunners and the Flood, as a sort of temporary housing for sentient species while the Librarian and the Lifeworkers worked to index them to reseed the galaxy after the firing of the Halo arrays. The Anniversary versions of Halo 1-2 do add a little more lore fluff to go through with the hidden consoles and data entry stuff but really you do have to read some of the books to get an idea of it. EDIT: Yea, IIRC the narrative direction of both Halo 2 and Halo 3 changed WILDLY during development so that's why there's some inconsistency in both 2 and 3. Lore-wise they do touch on it in Halo 3 where Guilty Spark says they need to fire only the new installation 04 to cleanse the LOCAL outbreak of flood from High Charity, but firing one ring will put ALL of them on standby mode to fire WITHOUT the need for a firing index to be retrieved properly on each individual halo ring (aka the library mission from Halo 1) so Truth would be able to use that one console at the Ark to get what he wants without having to send strike teams to go through the libraries of the other 5 halo installations and fire each one manually that way.

I hope you show her all the Halo 3 promos and ads they did. The live action stuff and everything. Including the trailer with master chief walking out of the sand storm with that gorgeous music! Because, to this day, I haven't seen a video game go all out with their advertising campaign quite like Halo 3.

Regarding the halo firing mechanism and Truth going for the Ark: The knowns are that in halo:CE guilty spark speaks of the limited range of installation 04, but suggests that when one fires the others will follow afterwards. In Halo 2 Tartarus goes to fire Delta Halo while they can meanwhile Truth goes for the Ark, and following Deltas cancellation all active arrays are broadcast a standby signal from Delta. In Halo 3 Truth attempts to remotely fire all of the active arrays as they are presently in standby and able to be fired simultaneously. From this I am going to suggest that when one array is fired it gives off a massive signal (its basically a supernova so duh) which alerts all other arrays that one was fired, resulting in the local array monitor firing their array afterwards. Thus the reason Truth goes to the Ark is as a contingency in the event they fail to fire Delta halo, which guess what happened.

So the thing about the Halo's firing mechanism and even what they do is sometimes magic. One thing I've heard about why Truth went to the Ark is because he had a Shield World (shielded against the Halo) with a colony of his species. The plan was to kill the galaxy and restart it under his rule as the God-species, he'd then choose which species would be reseeded from the Ark as well.

I keep getting reminded that somehow streamers can be some of the most oblivious gamers when it comes to PC controls and having all those buttons. A controller just makes games like this so much easier to figure out cause there is only so many buttons to push and eventually you will find out what they do. Matara not knowing how to swap weapons or how to turn her camera to drive vehicles EVEN BY MISTAKE is awe inspiring and reminds me why aggressive built in tutorials need to be a thing.
