I started helping Rogier before I started Ranni's quest in my first playthrough, and was given the option of revealing my ulterior motive to her and took it. Because of that and the transactional nature when the deal was done and got the inverted statue is why in addition to her thoughts she expresses in the small doll form, I think that despite her ruthlessness, Ranni isn't as callous as her actions suggest. I think she's for better or worse just adept at looking at her goals and the methods to achieve them objectively.

@TheStormMotivated Ranni definitely isn't evil. Not necessarily a hero, but she isn't evil. Also, there are theories that Marika was in on the plot to kill Godwin for some reason or another. Which makes sense since the Golden Order was going to destroy itself because of its flaw that created a stagnant world. But that's also why a I said that Ranni seems for better or for worse capable of making objective decisions. Like, the Black Knives plot to kill Godwin was probably more an opportunity to solve her "I need to die in body but not spirit" problem, rather and having any malicious intent. I'd argue that our own ability to work with and basically marry her for her ending despite actively investigating the plot she helped carry out is proof of that.

@@Joshua_Shadow_Manriguez I recommend you see smoughtown video about the Nox, the night of the black knives and Ranni. But putting the theory in consideration, even if marika did had part in the assassination of godwyn, Ranni stole the rune of death from maliketh and imbued the black knifes with the destined death, she is indirectly killed him and had a big part if not the most important one in the plot, SHE IS A KILLER, thats helped kill a inocente, a hero and a peacekeeper, bc of her, deathroot spreaded, since she was the one who stole the rune of death. She might not be all evil, but she is not a good person, not trust worthy as well.

“No one is ever just one thing” not sure where the quote originates from, but it really resonates with me. I first heard it applied to the characters from Breaking Bad but it’s just as relevant to Fromsofts works and ESPECIALLY real life. This topic isn’t discussed enough in my opinion so thank you! My interpretation of Marika is that she is the kind of person who constantly tries to rationalize and/or logic away her emotions. A lot of mentions of her paint her as this being that values knowledge greatly, but also as someone who reacts explosively to perceived betrayals or challenges to her authority. The fire giants are a perfect example. If their flame posed such a danger to the erdtree it would have made more sense to fully eradicate the giants, rather than curse their sole survivor to tend the flame. There's a possibility that she had ulterior motives to do this, but the almost gloating tone of her curse makes me think this may have not been a calculated move on her part.

She fights the giants after the elden ring/greater will is born, because during that time the eartquakes produces by the giants where a problem for the erdtree. I think that during that time the giants had already lost the power of the “fire” and she returned that power to them as a curse. And i think that from that action the Flame of frenzy was born.

Quick question then. Why do you think Fromsoft included a variation of the ending dialogue with Ranni? We obtain it by going to Ranni’s rise and sitting at the grace and talking to her doll. It seems almost too particular with what was said at the site of grace and how it even goes out of the way to change a single point of dialogue yet imply a reasonable escalation of your relationship with Ranni. It could be considered just reinforcing what was already known. Again, we can’t just assume that was purposeless even if you want to see in that subjective notion of yours. I would like to believe the reason for it is to reinforce that perhaps you may be right but somewhere along the quest and ending those lines they blur. Regardless, I have many other doubts I would like to plant in your head. In fact, I find it interesting how in this video he doesn’t mention (of course it’s kinda a bit more complex but can be compelling for my argument) how Ranni can be approached from two different ways. One that utilizes Rogier and one that doesn’t. The former tends to have a much more logical progression of the quest as it actually invites a reasonable doubt in Ranni that YOU are actually the one trying to use Ranni. Eventually, you progress and she realizes you want to serve a greater purpose than beyond what was implied at the beginning of Rogier’s aspect of the questline. It’s purposefully meant to deepen the notion that Ranni doesn’t trust you at the beginning but realizes and acknowledges you’ve gone above and beyond for her. She realizes you are no longer just people using her (for example Selvius gets put down for reasons like this and beyond as he was just harmful in general). Remember that this doubt and hesitation is exactly the reason she states that the greater will in her view were simply villains. Her own 2 fingers slained as they were remnants of what was once her tortuous past of being used as a tool. In fact, I find it funny how you say Ranni uses us almost perhaps implying that Ranni is simply continuing the cycle she suffered through. Perhaps, we can argue that people can perpetuate the same abuse ( in fact you could argue Blaid and Iji suffer their depressing fates due to Ranni using them to progress her own agenda) but in that same argument you made there is an extremely illogical approach. You are quite literally told by Ranni that she wishes to uphold the entire aspect of the Stars in which she is willing to take on the entirety of that pressure. She is unwilling to have you even take on some of that pressure. She went out of her way to tell you that you should not have to help her maintain the order of the stars and it is solely her purpose and effort. You may see yourself as a tool but Ranni does not. She simply wishes for you to assist her create a world in which everyone is free of the greater will and will is simply among the stars in which there is no will. You are free as the stars in the sky. Ranni is not a saint and I agree with that. I mean she fated Godwyn to one of the worst fates imaginable, she used Iji and Bladid to the point they were probably destined for death from the beginning (even if Ranni and those two acknowledge that this is most likely to come), and she essentially fates Radahan to death as we are sent almost as his executioner (can be argued death was kinder than him rotting of scarlet). All heroes are not perfect. She freed the world so I think imperfection is the least of our concerns. Maybe you don’t agree the ends justify the means and that’s why being used as a tool initially makes you doubt Ranni, but it’s clear to me that in this world everything and everyone can be a tool it’s simply how others view you. I don’t believe Ranni views you as a tool for a tool is like Godfrey casted from his position once his use was done, but you are not casted away even when she has gotten everything she wanted. You are given a seat next to her side as her dear consort, eternal. Eternal: Lasting or existing forever.

@@SweetDaddo2.0 wow, thanks for the comment and for the knowledge, but all those things i say about her is based not on my headcanon that i want to be true, i say those things based on her persona, she is a liar that appreciate other good liars, she don’t seem to have a drop of remorse of being one of the main cogs in the night of the black knives that subsequently caused the shattering, she don’t seems to mourn blaidd and iji, reinforcing the theory that she was using them to her agenda, about the change of dialog, you have point there, i take my hat for you my friend, but as hawkshaw mentioned, perhaps having a consort is part of the ritual to complete the age of stars, the order of the moon altho is outside of the world, still is a order nonetheless, in the golden order it was shown that when godfrey was expelled from the lands, radagon quickly hastened to occupy the empty title of elden lord, perhaps to have a order, a ruler and a lord is a must have, what i want to say is, i find really hard that such a person like her fall in love with a rando, bc he single handed carried her agenda in the back and made it possible, “i did everything for you, now you love me” kind of thought, it could be true tho, i just find really hard to be true, actually, to good to be true. Anyways, thats my take.
@SweetDaddo2.0
@SweetDaddo2.0 24 дня назад
She is a liar. Okay what are the lies that put you off so much. Go ahead list them. The only lie I can think of right now is that she told you her name was Renna. She is essentially a criminal in the eyes of many so she had no reason to assume she could give you her identity without becoming a threat. Eventually she is forced to drop the façade as you find out through others (black knife plot/Rogier) her true identity as shown in the Rogier questline. This is the one and only lie and one that while is a lie is understandably a lie. Why would she give her identity out so willingly to someone who is still not confirmed to be trustworthy or potentially an ally. Remember sympathy is key to understanding. If you were a fugitive who killed the president and changed identities (Doll form), then would you tell someone your real name? No... right? Don't tell me you would be even remotely honest after committing such actions. YOU don't think she has any remorse. Just because the story doesn't state it outright doesn't mean what you believe is accurate. Remember just because evidence against your argument doesn't exist doesn't mean therefore your argument is true. There is just as much evidence she does feel remorse than no remorse because there is no evidence of either. Is Godwyn shown to be remorseful of his actions? You think he killed no one in the war against dragons or even in other potential conflicts? Has he shown any remorse for the war? Maybe he does but I merely point this out to help you realize that it would be quite unfair to assume that anyone does or doesn't feel remorse. In fact, I can comfortably state that if neither felt remorse then so be it. They have their motives and are willing to engage in whatever actions will bring them results. Remorse shows regret. Regret means one feeling depressed over what has been done. I'm actually happy if you want to believe Ranni shows no remorse, because so be it. She has no reason to regret her own actions if she knows they must happen to continue to pursue and push her goal. I don't know why you even brought this up. Feels like in the grand scheme of the land between regret and remorse are things that come only in ones last few moments (Godfrey holding his neglected child as they pass). I love how you need everything to be direct cause again in your mind unless they out right state it then it probably could or couldn't happen. Right Ranni should've been crying her doll eyes out for the loss of Iji and Bladid. You must think she didn't care for them. In fact, she worries they cared too much for her. Again, I hate head canon and you're completely right I base what I think logically on what the game has given me. Here are some cases to prove you wrong. "Blaidd, and Iji both...Art willing to give too much to me." She acknowledges their effort and even acknowledges how perhaps they give too much and in that notion there is almost regret from Ranni acknowledging this. After we kill the Baleful shadow as she likely goes to kill her 2 fingers thus causing the sequence of event leading to Bladid and Iji's death she solemnly states, "Tell Blaidd, and Iji...I love them." She doesn't say or mention her mother or Selvius (obviously known to be malicious in her mind). She could but she doesn't because she fully acknowledges their efforts and their willingness to follow her. This isn't head canon this is actual dialogue implying her thoughts. Not what you want to hear. I hear what I do hear. Now onto Bladid and Iji because I think many people think too much of Ranni's action and not enough about Bladid and Iji. They assume Ranni is a puppet master in a literal puppet or doll body, but when we analyze the dialogue of both we can tell instantly they don't care about what happens but just want to be by Ranni and assist her. THEY ARE WILLING PARTICIPANTS OR ALLIES. They are not forced; they are not tricked; they are not manipulated. They know exactly what's going to happen to them and what Ranni will do. Here I go with that evidence. This is Bladid's last line as we put him down, "No. I’m part of her very being! I could never betray her! No matter what might happen... Ranni... She needs me..." The whole thing with Iji trapping Bladid was him acknowledging that Bladid at the end of the day was a tool, NOT OF RANNI, but the Greater Will. Think about that. Ranni never wanted to use Bladid as a tool but you know who did? The Greater Will. The being that Godwyn wanted to protect. Think about the irony of that one real quick. " My only purpose is to fight for Ranni’s fate," this quote was said after beating Radahn but many lines of dialogue before this one were similar in the notion that Bladid kept stating how he was there to help push Ranni's Fate. A willing participant knowing exactly what that Fate was and still refused to bow down to his initial purpose. Remember Ranni stating even that she knew Bladid was a failure of his original purpose by the Greater Will. Imagine being born to the Greater Will and most likely used as a tool to watch over the Empryeans and eventually succumbing to side by Ranni. Again, you can say head canon but that seems like a bit of an argument that Ranni truly is not one to use others as tool but rather treat them so well THEY ARE ABLE TO DENY THEIR PROGRAMMING CREATED BY A GOD LIKE BEING. Imagine a dictator that sent spies to another country and that country ended up treating them so well they just end up quitting as spies and committing to that country. That is quite literally, NOT HEAD CANON, the story of Bladid. You can say Ranni tricked him but where's the trick? No head canon for me but there's no tricks shown to be used on Bladid. In fact, the Greater Will is what ends up brainwashing Bladid and turning him feral. I mean that's not head canon that's the literal game. Imagine you defended Godwyn who upholds the Golden Order which upholds the Greater Will. Telling me about how Ranni needs to feel remorse about the death of the people she loved when one of them were quite literally forced into a state of madness and forced to be put down for they no longer are themselves. All will removed from that being and that's what the Golden Order and Greater Will are. Monsters who deny will and one's own purpose. OH yea and that's not head canon here's the dialogue from Iji himself, "Her very shadow, incapable of treachery. But if Lady Ranni, as an Empyrean, reists being an instrument of the Two Fingers, the shadow will go mad, transforming from a follower into a horrid curse. But such is his destiny." Imagine being so strong willed and loving to Ranni that Iji would then proceed to acknowledge that love Bladid had, "No, more importantly… Blaidd became a curse that plagued Lady Ranni, yet in madness, gave himself to her. I’ve made a grave misjudgement. And I thought myself a capable war counselor"

@@TheAuspiciousGoldmask Almost forgot to include these Iji dialogue. Remember these people were together for far longer than I think you realize, " Blaidd and I swore allegiance as vassals, but none of us will ever forget our earliest days together." Maybe you think Ranni uses them as tools but it's undeniable Ranni when she probably a wee lad had already deep connections with both. They aren't just people who popped in her life and became useful (you seem to think of our own purpose in Ranni's story as such), but rather these are people she has always been close with. AGAIN, maybe you don't think Ranni thinks so but sure as heck that the others think so. Again, I can maybe see why you don't think their love are all mutual but our perception of what they have between them is not the same as what is truly between them. Head canon is bad I agree, but I think I've shown that I don't act according to head canon but rather what I'm given. And what I'm given is something that shows deep love Ranni, Iji, and Bladid all share. Their fate is cruel because of what the Greater Will does to prevent Ranni from pursing her goal. She may not be a hero but the Greater Will and it's followers are far from that as well. I don't find myself interested in addressing this love that Ranni has for you. Perhaps it is along the same as Godfrey and Marika, but even we don't know what Marika thought of Godfrey. It feels like Godfrey was merely a tool, and maybe you are one as well. Perhaps, the ritual and consort idea purposed maybe true making you potentially a tool, but I think that's the sad part. Even in our own lives is marriage so much love then it is people using each other to feel secure in life. Is love the only factor in something like marriage. The fact is there are many factors to consider, and thus your perspective of how our character and Ranni relate can be up to your perspective and how each factor is determined to be relevant. I personally think the addition of that change to consort shows that FromSoft purposefully wrote it as a way to establish the love but that doesn't mean you still aren't technically a tool in some way. Both can be true but I think it's quite funny how most of the dialogue from Ranni softens as you go through her questline. They clearly want to show development of the relationship, and in the end Ranni is a god damn demi god. There is obviously a disconnect between her much higher and greater purpose that we eventually close as a gap since we quite literally push her to that purpose. All in all I think I dislike most of the points you used as they felt fake and ungrounded, but I think your final point is one I can't really prove wrong as both you and I can be correct. I just think with the dialogue slowly becoming more mellow and genuine that it feels unfortunate you feel such a way. I think what's really interesting is that once you give the Dark Moon Ring to Ranni you can attack her and she'll state, "Perhaps it is precisely what I deserve....For surrendering myself to delusion." Delusion is faulty judgement. You wed her and attack her and she's actually prone to feeling a sense of regret for giving herself a chance to be wed or happy (remember she gives you the key to open the chest in raya lucaria to get the ring. You have the choice. Remember that choice is what Ranni wants for everyone except Godwyn XD). I wanted to also include this description from that very ring, "Whoever thou mayest be, take not the ring from this place, the solitude beyond the night is better mine alone." She gives you a warning and actually attempts to push one away from this purpose that is likely to come to them (perhaps stating the clear need for consort as the idea of a ritual may be true) beforehand about what is to come. So I imagine even if we don't know what she's feeling, we do know she's clearly disappointed for being wed and then attacked. That seems like someone feeling betrayed. People are betrayed not by those far from them but by those closest to them. Maybe that's head canon but the dialogue is there (quick interjection is that it's also reinforced by the fact that she doesn't even mention Selvius and his betrayal and it pretty much is just casted away unlike again what you do). Interpretation is up to you I guess. Oh and um this line always kinda confirms my own thoughts as it's the prerequisite visit to her tower and site of grace, "Wouldst thou come to me, even now, my one and only lord?" You could say she's lying here but it's almost as if FromSoft had this to show that unlike Marika, who I guess divorced Godfrey and married herself (Radagon), Ranni is shown here to almost admit there is only you. They could drop you and find another powerful being but she acknowledges in this line there is only you. Manipulation maybe? Well if that were the case then so be it, but I guess I must say then why is it optional and why does it lead to the final change in the dialogue. Enjoy yourself and just know Ranni is no Hero, no leader, and maybe no lover but in the worlds of the lands between she's the best we got. (In context with the two other main comments below this has lost it's place but it does include point that are valid but were not included among the other main comments. Consider this one a random interjection of unused thoughts.)

As for the thought... Have you considered doing a video on size/height? Normally I would figure it's just "the enemy is bigger so their moves can be seen easier by the player," but with the Vulgar Militia having height made a distinct part of the game's lore, it has my interest. Even the pitiful commoners like Gostoc tower over the Tarnished. There's also the respective bulk and lack thereof between regular or royal Omen, Morgott, and Mohg. It always startles me to see just how downright scrawny Morgott is, after I've been poking around the sewers. Plus there's the Godskin Nobles, and their proud, imposing presence. The Godskin in general freaked me out at first because they're just disproportionate enough to hit uncanny valley (still kinda do with the whole skin thing), but there IS something very impressive about the Nobles in particular. I don't know if there's enough content for a long-form video here, but it might be suitable for a shorter segment? (I might start hunting for more details myself down the line)

I am content with that label and fucking off to the stars (or moon) for our honey*moon*. Also I think that she herself is Torrents former master- when she says that, she's under the disguise of one "Renna", not as Ranni. Either that or Miquella is the former master- since we see him riding Torrent in the arts for the dlc. But I still think the master is Ranni, the spectral stuff and whatnot seems to be her pony. hehhee With her being at least partly spectral herself.
