LOVE THIS SONG. My first band loved playing this, and our singer could nail every note David Coverdale sang in that song. Always felt amazing playing this song and still love jamming it even now.
David Coverdale was the lead singer in deep purple mark 3 ,when Ian Gillan left ,he and Glenn Hughes Stepped in , when deep purple disbanded ,David went to form white snake
I know a lot of people will ask for Here I Go Again...which is a great song...but I would love to see you react to Slide It In which was from the album before this one. They had some great songs...and this was a Super Group of players at the time. Tommy Aldridge on Drums from Ozzy's first couple albums, Rudy Sarzo on Bass from Quiet Riot, Mark Guiffrea from Guiffrea on Guitar (He used the bow), and Vivian Campbell from Dio's first couple of solo albums and is now with Def Leppard. David Coverdale is the singer who did a stint in Rainbow for a time. The female was Tawny Kitaen an actress who later married Coverdale. She had a few movies...the first that comes to mind was "Bachelor Party" with Tom Hanks. I saw them in Los Angeles supporting this album opening for Motley Crue on their Girls, Girls, Girls tour. Great memories Edit: Ack...not Guiffrea...the other guitarist was Mark Vendenberg who had a band called Vandenberg before this...and Coverdale was from Deep Purple not Rainbow.
The breakdown to the slow part of this song gives me chills every single time. The song up to that point for me is ok but it really becomes something else after
Man those were the days back in high school when we all had those shirts on for white snake. We all spent detention together at the end of the day as well.
*"Daddys Little Girl"* - Dr Hook *"Look At Me"* - Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush *"See Forever Eyes"* - Prism *"Spanish Train"* - Chris de Burgh *"If The Wind Could Blow My Trouble's Away"* - Murray Mclauchlin *"Followed Her Around"* - Jimmy Rankin *"My Name"* George Canyon ( *"Drinkin' Thinkin'"* is another good one especially with it's official video) *"Let Go The Line"* - Max Webster *"Things I Do For Money"* - Northern Pikes ( *"She Ain't Pretty"* ...with video😊) *"The Superman Song"* - Crash Test Dummies ( *"Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm"* ... yes, that's its title😊)
I had/have listened to Whitesnake over the years but wasn't a huge fan. Then I caught them live when they opened for Judas Priest and I found a new respect for the band, they were great.
I saw them in 1988 with Great White opening. Great stage show. David Coverdale had that great voice going back to his days with Deep Purple after Ian Gillam left them.
Only one of the folks in the video played on the Album except for David Coverdale. Adrian Vandenburg played the solo on Here I go again. The rest is John Sykes one of the baddest players on the planet. You should check out Blue Murder. Sykes can sing also.
Holy shit! I haven’t heard this song in forever. Great song and great band. Used to jam to these guys all the time. You should also check out the bands Great White and Jackel. Also, you should dive back into Queensrÿche, so many great songs by those guys. Other bands I’d recommend: •Iced Earth •Unleash the Archers •Tesla •Slik Toxik •Anthrax •Scorpions •Manowar •Ratt •Quiet Riot •Cinderella •Poison All great 80s bands. I think you’ll love them. 😊
Glad you like this song, it's one of their best (altough I like "Here I Go Again" more) I saw you also did a few Scorpions songs, from them I think "Rock You Like a Hurricane" would do well here 😊 And in a different style, here's another "big hair" suggestion: Static-X "Push It" and "Dirthouse" both great song that would make for a good reaction, they have a lots of energy! Hope you have a good time with em. 🤘
Love using the violin bow on the guitar, so glad Jimmy Page brought that technique to the world. Funny how long haired men from the past seems so much more manly then men today
This one really shows their unapologetic Zeppelin influence/fandom. In fact he/they went on to do the "Coverdale-Page" album with Jimmy Page of Zep. You would absolutely love that album, from the fun zippy bits to the heavy blues rock -- songs like "Pride and Joy" on the light cocky side to the heartbreaking "Whisper A Prayer For The Dying" as the intense/epic.
Helloo. Coverdale was the best vocalist and the best hair. His band members were always the best of the best. David also did an album with Jimmy Paige from led zeppelin. Take Me for a Little While is a great song. Almost any song is good. Slip of the Tongue, Love aint no Stranger, etc One great song is Forevermore.
If you want to see great bow work from a guitarist, there is a performance by Led Zeppelin from around 1968 done on a Danish TV show. It is in black and white but the boys did a phenomenal job on it. The song is "How many more times", the video is approximately 11 plus minutes long. Not only does Jimmy Page kill it but so does John Paul Jones and of course you will see why John Bonham is the greatest drummer ever. 🙂
Coverdale & Co are proper musicians... but this song in particular feels like it was taking advantage of the utter silence of the members of Led Zeppelin. At the time, Robert Plant was all but denying that such a band existed, but soon released a solo that teased Zep riffs. This is not to take away from this song, it's iconic, I have fond memories of it. I just feel that they saw the vacuum created by the absence of Zep and did a fantastic job of filling that void with their own signature.
Yes. Too bad I caught the tail end of it (around 92) when there was only Guns 'n' Roses left. To this day I despise "grunge", not necessarily the music but the concept.
@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119that sucks. I was lucky to be born in 75. So I was enthralled into 80’s metal and then progressed to grunge(started when I was in High school). I love them both. The power ballad is still probably my all time fav group of songs though. I’m so blessed to have the music I had when growing up.
when the guys had better hair than the girls. but honestly a great band. their "here I go again" is so iconic. thank you for your reaction and appreciation of the old stuff.
"when the guys had better hair than the girls"......reminds me of a weekend me and some friends spent at a friend's lakehouse. I was sleeping on the couch in the living room and everyone started rolling into the kitchen for breakfast. I sit up and my friend's gf looks at me and says "I hate you" cause apparently my hair (which was down to the middle of my back at the time and was pin straight chinese hair) was perfect...no bed head. Lol I miss that hair.
@@oldshiny3012 - You should get out of your moms basement and listen to more music. Try Warrants "Uncle Toms Cabin" and I promise you will throw rocks at whitesnake!!
First concert I ever went to, August 6, 1988 at Weedsport Speedway. Whitesnake and Great White. General admission tickets, 12 bucks! It was beyond incredible.
Whitesnake AND Great White? sweet jesus... And here I was just happy to see bands like Cinderella, David Lee Roth's Eat 'Em and Smile tour, and Queensryche that did a double set of Empire and then into full Operation Mindcrime. The show you got to attend sounds absolutely amazeballs.
I saw them on the same tour, in Hartford , CT. Awesome show. Stayed in the same hotel as them and ended up in a room with a bunch of random people, a member of Great White AND someone I had gone to High School with. It was a pretty cool night. I will say, the dude from Great White was very immature.
@@erickknutz5599 l saw that tour. Was GREAT but Ruth sucked like always. FN QueensRyche Cant BE BEAT LIVE...! in the Day....... Cinderella aint NO Joke either. Tom can sing his ass OFF...!
Try Fantasy by Aldo Nova. It's one of the best 80s rock hits out there. It runs along the same lines as Loverboy and Journey. I guarantee you won't be able to sit still. Keep up the good work, Aileen!
The woman you see in the video is Tawny Kitean. She was the girlfriend of lead singer David Coverdale at the time. She was in a couple of movies in the '80s, especially "Bachelor Party". She also was in other music videos of Whitesnake, "Is This Love" and "Here I Go Again". She passed away recently in 2021. Also, Whitesnake was very big in 1987 when this album came out. It's SOLID from start to finish. "Crying in the Rain" is amazing, but of course besides this son, "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love" were the biggest hits. Amazing band.
He married Tawney because she said she loved Chopin. Turns out he misheard her. She actually said, "I love shopping" That's Coverdale's joke about her.
I also loved the lineup with Steve Vai and the hits from the Slip Of The Tongue album..I was in 8th grade in 1989...loved the power ballad Now You're Gone 😎😎
Hardly a couple minutes into the reaction and already adore how much fun you’re enjoying this song with all your little dances and smiles at the video 🖤 The bigger the hair, the cooler the song 😎
The breakdown is the best though. One of my first jobs was a DJ at a strip joint and four of the girls did a full on fashion runway parade dance to that part of the song regularly to GREAT effect. Synchronized pole moves and all
IIRC the bow/guitar thing was a tongue in cheek thing done by Adrian Vandenberg because Whitesnake was often called a poor man's Zeppelin and Coverdale was accused of Plant worship a lot by critics
Aileen , a little background for you about this song and the album its from. In this video no one you see as band members played one note of this song. Singer David Coverdale is the only one. The album's band consisted of guitarist and co - writer of the album John Sykes , bassist Neil Murray , drummer Aynsley Dunbar and keyboardist Don Airey. After the album was finished being recorded Coverdale fired the band. Sykes found out he was fired by getting a letter in the mail. For the videos and tour to support the album Coverdale handpicked the band you see in this video - Vivian Campbell (Dio) - guitar , Adrian Vandenberg (Vandenberg) - guitar , Rudy Sarzo ( Quiet Riot , Ozzy Osbourne) - bass , Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osbourne , Black Oak Arkansas) - drums. The part in the video where Adrian Vandenberg is using a violin bow is just for looks , that part was never played with a bow. Coverdale used a cello patch on a keyboard to get that effect. On the album track "Here I Go Again" Adrian Vandenberg played the guitar solo after Sykes refused to fly back to L. A. to re-record the solo. Coverdale didn't like the solo Sykes laid down but Sykes was happy with the solo. He had already returned to England and saw no need to fly back for one solo.
All good Roger, but would simply add that Tommy also was with Pat Travers for a stint that helped him define his aggressive style of attack. The man’s a killer behind the kit. Dunbar was no slouch either. Enjoyed reading your comments.
@@ronaldelliott4373 Aynsley Dunbar had his apprenticeship under Frank Zappa. You had to be top notch to get hire by Zappa and after you went through the rigorous demands of being in his band you were guaranteed to be one of the very best musicians in the world and would not lack for work with the biggest acts in the world going forward if you wanted them.
If you want more sexy Whitesnake, then there's the album before this one called Slide It In. There's the title track and also "Slow 'n Easy" and "Spit It Out". 🤭
By this time in Whitesnake's existence they were a super group with members from some other very great bands. But to me the earlier stuff the album Slide it in is by far their best. Great reaction.
R-rating warning, but if you want to see more of Tawny, she was in the movie Witchboard. However, to spoil things a bit concerning her, she was out of control enough to be a domestic abuser toward her guys, so that was a poor thing about her.
Hi ,Aileen , Another great Whitesnake song to check out is Slow an Easy ,You will absolutely love that one, Whitesnake's lead singer is David Coverdale, He was singer with Deep Purple in the early 1970s as well 😀😀🤘🤘🎸🎸
David Coverdale (lead vocals) of Whitesnake is a legendary vocalist... he got his start as the singer of Deep Purple in 1974 until 1976. He formed the band Whitesnake in the late 70's from his solo career... 'Still of the night' was released in 1987 from the self-titled 'Whitesnake' album, co-written by guitarist John Sykes (who was fired before this video was filmed) and became a huge hit... It was compared to Led Zeppelin and Jimmy Page actually loved the song (David Coverdale and Jimmy Page would record 1 album together in 1993 - 'Coverdale. Page') ... but singer Robert Plant hated it; he derogatorily called the Whitesnake singer 'David Coverversion' in an interview. The video featured model/ actress Tawny Kitaen, who also did 2 more Whitesnake videos - 'Is this love' ... 'Here I go again'... and soon married David Coverdale... He wrote the Whitesnake song "Kitten's got claws" ...about her... They split up in 1990 and Tawny Kitaen eventually passed away in 2021 at age 59... She appeared in the 1984 music video 'Back for more' by Ratt when she was dating (late) Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby and was the model on the cover of Ratt's '84 album 'Out of the cellar'. David Coverdale was an unknown British singer when he was hired by Deep Purple in 1974 to replace their singer Ian Gillan... His subsequent Purple albums 'Burn' and 'Stormbringer' ... were huge hits. However, after guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1975, the band hired guitarist Tommy Bolin for 1 album 'Come taste the band'... but it failed commercially. After a disastrous tour marred by death and drug abuse, Deep Purple split up in 1976. David Coverdale launched a solo career in 1977 (2 albums - 'Northwinds' and 'Whitesnake') and eventually called his new band Whitesnake (jokingly after his 'thang' 🐍 😂) in 1978 and debuted the album 'Trouble'... Whitesnake would record a number of albums and tour Europe successfully before breaking big in Japan in the 80's... America was proving a tough sell and none of their records were out there. In 1984, Whitesnake's 6th album 'Slide it in' finally got a US release and the band were ready for the big time in 1986 by re-recording some of their songs for the 'Whitesnake' album... However, Coverdale decided to fire the entire band and hire a new line-up of Whitesnake as the album was being finished... it sold 8x platinum in 1987 w/ MTV promoting the band (which was different from the record) In 1989, Whitesnake released 'Slip of the tongue'... which was co-written w/ guitarist Adrian Vandenberg, but an injury resulted in virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai playing on the record and joining the band... The album sold platinum w/ hits like - 'Wings of the storm'... "Now you're gone"... 'Judgement day"... But after Coverdale's split from wife Tawny Kitaen, he disbanded Whitesnake in 1991. In 1993, David Coverdale and Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page released a successful album 'Coverdale. Page'... but Jimmy Page opted to reunite w/ Zeppelin singer Robert Plant in 1994 as Plant & Page... Coverdale attempted more solo albums, but none were as successful. In 2002, David Coverdale reformed Whitesnake and began touring and recording successfully... He was planning a final tour recently, but health issues have forced him off the road and he has yet to announce any plans to return.
This was my first concert. 1987 Whitesnake opened up for Motley Crue and this was the song that started the whole show. Great first concert. 15 then, 52 now. Song is timeless, still hits like it did back in the day.
i saw that tour in Detroit at Joe Louis Arena .. we had main floor general admission tickets and went down to the arena at noon and camped at the door til it opened at 6pm.. we were first in teh door and got to see the show from the center stage front row .. my hips still have the bruise marks from being pressed up against the security wall.. was a great show and got to see tommy lees drums spinning over my head....
David Coverdale Vivian Campbell Adrian Vandenberg Tommy Aldridge Rudy Sarzo!!! One hell of a super group!!!!!! Slide it In & Slow & Easy are awesome songs as well. I highly recommend either one for your next reaction of them.
@Apocalypse2031 well. I'm not trying to lie about anything. It was probably longer ago than what I said my memory is not that great anymore. It may have been 10 years ago!
@Apocalypse2031 I assume that DC had some good days of vocal performances in the last WS tours, but I need to agree with you his last great consistent performances was in the Good To Be Bad tour, sometime around 2009.
Whitesnake were always a great live show. Their videos never really showed how great they really were. Its been a while since I have heard a person talk as fast as you do but I am glad you enjoyed the video and had fun with it. Awesome as always Aileen.
We rocked like the entire earth was watching....and it was....we loved with every fiber of our souls....and we lived like no other before or since!! From Gen X....your welcome!!
Tell you what when they toured this album that line up kick total butt There's a lot of good songs to check out with this band give me all your love tonight Fool for your love in aint no love in the heart of the city slide it in spit it out. Slow and can go on forever. That band had a lot of good albums since the 70s, even with a lot of different musicians. Coverdale the singer saying, for deep purple for a couple albums, which he did a good job. There too.Fireball is one of the albums but but the song speaking
