So there are still people publishing spec for this hell in 2012? 😱

As always fun and interesting. But now, you totaly must make an episode about SOAP (or even make a code review of someone's CORBA implementation for Go, which has to appear shortly) :P

That sounds horrendously bad ... so maybe

FWIW, OSF DCE didn't come out of the blue, it was based on the HP (née Apollo) NCS RPC system, which natively supported Pascal along with C.

I don't think I said it came out of the blue ... but it is true that I might have shortened the history a bit to make it fit in a short episode :)

19:19 "Not really. gRPC is one of the contenders, but REST is still there doing really well". I don't think REST really got off the ground. There's an ad hoc thing we call REST but did HATEOAS ever land with people?

The company I work for uses CORBA in their products... old grown products written in C++ and Java ;)
@JustForFunc

That's awesome! Would you say it's a good tech? Do you have any concerns or problems with it?

Well it works for the company I work for. We use it to communicate between different clients (written in Java or C++) running on different platforms and the server processes (written in C++). And also some of the servers communicate with each other via CORBA. It's not great, but it works, as long as the network is stable. And as you said in your episode, you need to always upgrade client and servers if you change the interface. But this is not such a big problem, because these interfaces are only used internally in the product. The software is about 20 years old, so it was build in a time when CORBA was the "standard" RPC protocol. I wouldn't want to start a new product using CORBA, I'd rather use gRPC.

Nice vid again :) Thanks ! Keep up the good work. You should use cardioid though (on your blue yeti the heart shaped icon.) In stereo, your voice goes left to right and right to left non stop because you hand hold the microphone. It's great for other tasks though, just not for single voice recording

I read that as Cobra. Lol. Omg that's kinda click bait. I just started rewriting huge parts of an app in Cobra and this title made me nervous. I have worked with Corba in the past. It was dying out right as I got in the industry around 2001

You should definitely watch the previous episode, which is *actually* on Cobra, not COBRA 😂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WvWPGVKLvR4.html

Oh you brought back memories! Never liked CORBA and always confused it with COBRA.

Had to learn CORBA a long time ago. Compared to todays technologies it is HORRIBLE! Although systems are more complex nowadays, basic things are simpler! Btw, cool t-shirt! Where can I get it? Can you post a picture of the whole shirt?

How about an episode on Behavior-Driven Development with Go, using godog - the official cucumber BDD framework? Interested to hear your thoughts on this style of testing within a Go project. Thanks!
