This movie deserves a lot more recognition NOW then when it was released in 1999 ; Not for its stars (and believe me there were a lot including a SB halftime headliner) but for its tone and the issues they addressed which are still relevant today (police conduct, racial profiling , mental health, child abuse, etc) And don’t get me started with the condition of the school . BOE would’ve gotten sued from these poor conditions and staff would’ve gotten fired.
@kryptonianpowers
@kryptonianpowers 3 дня назад
Agreed. Every single high school in America must watch this in class as a mandatory school assignment where students should all learn about the dangers of what happens at certain high schools based on the issues in regards to wrongful profiling and poor preconceptions with racism and the shit-ass disrepair conditions of a whole school and the faculty's (mostly the principal's) negligence in taking responsibility for such conditions.
@wwe682

For your final thoughts, I wholeheartedly agree about that trifling ass principal. After that whole ordeal homie should have gotten fired on the spot I mean honestly this whole thing is his fault

I'd LOVE to see a one-shot fanfiction story of him getting fired by the New York Board of Education like he's tried before a military tribunal and the dick-ass principal throws a savage tantrum to the point of sociopathy and refuses to own up to everything he is to blame for. The fanfic would begin right after the hostage situation is over and Jackson testified in court about everything wasn't what it was originally believed to be based on the media's wrongful misconception and accusations where about three or four members of the New York Board of Education attend the court hearing and plan to have a meeting with the other board members about what happened in Lincoln High. They all read about the demands of what the Lincoln 6 want for their school posted with every single news network and media via the internet and decide that Armstrong has proven himself to be completely unfit to be principal of Lincoln High, much less a principal of any other schools, whether elementary, middle, high, and/or private based on his abuse of authority and professional misconduct as if he created his own personal laissez-faire administration like the Trunchbull from *Matilda* did, acting as if being principal of a school means he's God and his word is law. The members of the Board of Education give Armstrong a malicious dressing down for all of his actions in allowing what happened at Lincoln High based on his bystander apathy and negligence of the WHOLE school's hazardous and deteriorating state of disrepair that he did absolutely nothing about to improve and all because of the state superintendent was visiting, which poorly affected his ego and vanity in regards to his job all the while treating every single student in Mr. Knowles' class as if they were criminals, thugs, gangsters, and whatnot in a very poor light all the while in the end, one student (Ziggy) was killed by the police, which his blood is on Armstrong's hands. This meeting does not go well for Armstrong at all, and he blows up in front of them all, flying into a murderous rage, throwing a savage temper tantrum to the point of becoming a psychopath, telling them all they're unfit to judge him and angrily protests that they can't get him fired, but this is enough for the board members to all agree on an unanimous vote that he is fired from being the principal of Lincoln High School and that his certificate for teaching is revoked for life. Later, a team of security guards storm in and subdue Armstrong where he is frog-marched out of the meeting all the while resisting arrest, which will eventually put him in jail for his tantrums. Another story in this fanfic is where Mr. Malone, Ziggy's father is visited by the police and is told about his son's death. Mrs. Malone, Ziggy's mom is horrified, but Mr. Malone is stone-coldhearted, not giving a shit about Ziggy being killed and he is eventually arrested by the cops after being tipped off by Jackson. Mr. Malone obviously attempts to fight the cops arresting him, even going as far to chomp and spit at them all the while he is forcibly dragged and/or frog-marched out of his house and is taken to court, which Lester is asked to attend as a witness to defense on Ziggy's behalf, which he spills everything about Mr. Malone's abuse towards Ziggy for God knows how long and Mr. Malone is found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.

I used to watch this movie a lot back when I was a kid when my family used to have a DVD copy. I still watch it whenever it comes on TV. I humorously call it the "Ghetto Breakfast Club". And Usher was in another Breakfast Club-esque movie the year before Light It Up called "The Faculty".

I’ve been loving this movie for like six years now. This is one of the best emotional true to life movies of 1999. I loved all the main characters except for the principal. He was a jerk who I hoped got fired. It was his fault that this hostage happened in the first place. We got Usher, Rosario Dawson, Robert Ri’chard who also did Coach Carter and Fredro Starr who also did Save the last dance. I always thought how was Ziggy taking care of himself in the school because his father been hurting him. He should’ve lived with Lester. How come they never made a demand about their principal giving them another chance because they’re good kids? Why did they have to kill my boy Ziggy like that? This boy was a special kid with a bright artistic future in front of him probably when he graduates high school.

Also Also : Fun Fact - Babyface and then wife Tracey Edmonds executive produced the film but (of course) underperformed in the box office compared to Soul Food. It made back 5 million against a 13 million budget and currently holds 43% on RT the soundtrack which was forgettable but somehow peaked at #19 on Billbaord 200 and was #4 on the R&B/Hip Hop charts?!?!?!?WTF

Agreed. The principal was a dick-ass. He should be fired for his actions based on his idiocy of seeing that he's partially responsible for the negligence of the school's conditions and denial of the necessary needs of the students in school all the while exaggerating and lying about which students are criminals, thugs, and whatnot when he clearly knows they aren't, but doesn't give a flying rat's ass based on his professional misconduct and abuse of authority.

@kryptonianpowers
@kryptonianpowers 4 дня назад
Somebody needs to write a one-shot fanfiction story that takes place after the hostage situation ended where Officer Jackson told the courts the whole truth about the kids in regards to the poor conditions of the school, a member of New York's Board of Education attends the trial after learning about the hazardous negligence and disrepair of Lincoln High School where Armstrong is called to a meeting with the school district's bigwigs where he is given a malicious and severe reprimand by everyone for his thoughtlessness on the school's needs and his poor treatment of the students, especially the Lincoln Six. Armstrong is embarrassed and blames the Lincoln Six for everything that happened and refuses to own up to all of his actions, which gets him fired for being principal of Lincoln High and his certificate revoked for life. This enrages Armstrong and pushes over the edge to the point of psychopathy where he demands they reinstate him for being principal, but his little savaged temper tantrum gets him kicked out and eventually arrested himself, being given a taste of his own medicine from the board of education. And in the end, Lincoln High gets a new principal who cares about the wellbeing of every student and vows not to repeat the mistakes Armstrong made towards the Lincoln Six and letting the whole school become a gangster's lair from the deteriorating negligence and disrepair of the whole building.

This was such an amazing movie with such a heartbroken ending, it’s quite sad how relatable it still is. So many of these kids need guidance and help but unfortunately most of the time there is no common ground between teachers and parents. The system has failed so many, a d*mn shame.

I remember this movie, with Vanessa Williams with her post-Soul Food hair, LOL. This was The Breakfast Club for the new millennium. The principal reminds me of the cowardly administrators at my old job at the prison. They were disingenuous and love to gaslight staff. We have a number of incidents caused by the youth in custody and they along with the director did not care. They cared about optics under the guise of rehabilitating the youth. They let the youth get away with everything. As a result, a number of people have left for good. I was blessed with a good education team to work with and we supported each other. I still keep up with them. The soundtrack was a bop too! I had a little crush on Robert Ri'chard.

I guess the saying is true: Pride cometh before the fall. I hate that the kids faced such hardships (the only thing I could relate to is being in a cold/hot school, especially when it was cold). I agree with Justice being for Ziggy and understood allllll the triggers. Allum! Glad you’re back and you provided an excellent analysis as always! My two favorite characters are in the movie is Ziggy and Lester. And it’s really all the principal fault. He said the kids then went to jail and try to call the kids, parents and Ziggy did not want to go home because he was scared because his dad was abused him at home and he’s is the cause of Ziggy death is talented kid in and a hell of a graffiti artist in and the character Ziggy play by Robert Richard is hip-hop, culture and Lester lost his dad and he lost his best friend. You should do another video like this on another movie with similar issues in school called *Kids In America* This is a 2005 movie about a diverse group of high school kids banding together who are all encouraged to protest their rights to freedom of speech against their oppressive principal who punishes students unfairly and unethically for opprobrious things with either suspension and/or expulsion for doing simple things that are harmless and aren't causing problems and/or disruptions in school all the while the bitchy school principal plans to run for State School Superintendent where she plans to further expand her oppressive methods towards more schools all over the state beyond the school she works at.

i think i only watched the first 20 minutes of this movie. When it comes to Rodney being trapped in school. .. were there no other exits? No back or side doors to sneak out of and get lost in the crowds?? 😆 Also, i just found out that there is a full "list of hood films" on Wikipedia. i didn't even know that was an official genre. i thought that was just something that people in the hood made up.

PART 2 because there’s more 1 - as a southeast queens resident I expected more from Fredro Starr who i considered a national treasure here but his character in this movie made him in Onyx look like Tekashi69 lol 2 - I don’t live too far from where this movie fictionally took place and was surprised to see that neighborhood they were in was bad? 😂😂 Not today it isn’t … and yes I know the movie was shot in Chicago which could’ve been better if it took place in Chicago 3 - Vanessa Williams is my all time favorite MILF
