Great tutorial, Zach! I had been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to comp a CG helmet over a stand-in prop in Blender. Now I know to do an object solve and also use a 3D head model to help parent it to the footage. As the CG helmet isn't form fitting, I don't have to worry about an exact fit. Thanks for the tips!

Pro Tip: The "File Output" node from the compositing tab can allow you to export the 3 layers as .png at once in different folders.

Well done ! really well explained, thanks ! i am a new subscriber now ! i have a question for you, which is the difference between make a motion tracking like this in Movie Clip Editor and MOTION TRACKING ? I ussualy use the window Motion Tracking and in the upper window on the right i can see the cube and on the left i can see the bars showing the lenght of the tracking in each point.... now i can see that you are using Moving Clip Editor in this tutorial, thanks in advance for your explanation ! Sombody how definetly knows how to use blender! just two recomendations: -when you have sharp edges, use either a bevel modifier or Bevel shader because razer sharp edges are very uncommon in the real world. -when setting up the focal lenght, you have to also set the sensor size or it dosnet make sense at all. (the preset menue right next to the camera panel is currently a bit ouztdated, but I already created a patch for that, so maybe that will change in the next Blender version.)

Great tips! - I agree that beveled edges would definitely add even more realism. The modifier didn't work that well on this model but I'll definitely look into the shader some more :) - The sensor size is also important for sure, especially if you are going for a perfect match. In this case just having the approximate focal length improved the result but it could be even more accurate with the sensor size :)

@@ZachAlanProductions In this perticular case bevel maybe wasn't even that neccesary, as you blured the image later. But keep in mind that if you for Example use an MFT sensor, the Facal length would be off by factor 2, smaller sensors even worse. In this cases, solving the focal length too is better. And for this case also not so important, but in general a good idea is to solve the Distortion (K1 and k2).

Question for Javert. What's the most difficult effect you've ever had to do in Hitfilm? Like is there some effect or scene in a movie that you struggled with or is everything pretty easy

It was a tight turnaround, my first time using UE4 to render a background environment, I filmed/lit the plate of myself alone in my flat, and I wanted the whole thing to look very cinematic. - Javert

What Happend if the actor needs to talk, do we need to animate the head mesh mouth?

Yes, you could separate the jaw of the head mesh into a separate object and animate its rotation, or you could create a bone/armature rig to animate it.
