james0nerep Come to defend your precious Bieber despite his in ability to handle himself like an adult. How can you defend a person that disregards *Europe AND Australia* and says North Pole and Canada are 2 continents instead? The interviewer's confused response *clearly* highlights that this is not a joke and maybe Bieber is really just that uneducated about the world. I mean he did call Indonesia a random country. Which....it's definitely NOT.
and Australia. how do you forget us. the place where we ride kangaroos to school, eat Vegemite the proper way, eat Milo by the bucketful and have drop bears that rip foreigners faces off
@@thewonderfulwrldofred I was only 9 when I first saw this and I couldn't believe that a famous celebrity wasn't even able to differentiate between countries and continents.
I thought that Europe and Asia are part of the same continent known as Eurasia, and that individually they are two "world-pieces", for which the English language apparently has no word.
Since when North America and South America are two continents? Someone needs to explain these two, I mean Bieber and Letterman, America is the name of a continent and is as a whole one undivided contient. The three regions are North America: Canada, U.S. and México, CENTRAL America: Guatemala, Belice etc. South America: From Colombia to Argentina.
Depends on where you’re from. Some countries teach that there’s seven continents while others teach there are six. I’ve learned that there are seven and that North America and South America are separate. Looks like those two were taught the same. No one needs to explain those two anything lol
''oh i love him, his voice is perfect, he takes care of us fans, he wants to marry me, he is so smart and nice... oh wait, none of the above are true wtf...'' lool
Sometimes it's called Australia, sometimes Oceania and sometimes Australia and Oceania. There's no valid single answer, interpretation is inconsistent in different parts of the World.
I agree with him actually, I was taught that the continents were Asia, America, Oceania, Africa, Europe and Antarctica. There is no reason for dividing America...
There are numerous ways of distinguishing the continents: Models 7 continents: North America, South America, Antarctica, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia 6 continents: North America, South America, Antarctica, Africa, Eurasia, Australia 5 continents: America, Antarctica, Africa, Eurasia, Australia 4 continents[dubious - discuss] : America, Antarctica, Afro-Eurasia,Australia
The seven-continent model is usually taught in China and most English-speaking countries. The six-continent combined-Eurasia model is sometimes preferred in the former states of the USSR[ and Japan. The six-continent combined-America model is sometimes taught in Latin America and in some parts of Europe including Greece (equivalent 5 inhabited continents model (i.e. excluding Antarctica) still also found in texts)
You know, I lov this guy, I love his music, I love him, I'm a Belieber, but I just watch this video and say to myself "He's so ignorant", I love him and all, but being famous and perfect (for me) doesn't make him less ignorant. I'm sorry, but is the truth...
@@crystalwilliams6164Eurasia is considered 1 continent in 15 countries of the Soviet Union and Japan. America 1 continent here in China 🇨🇳also countries like: Spain Italy France Greece Turkey Vietnam Indonesia Iran Portugal Azerbaijan Taiwan Latin America 33 countries and other countries in the world😊
@WangyOne i am not trying to teach anyone or fight anyone, from where i come from Australia is a country and Oceania is the continent. Australia is considered a continent only from a geographically point of view due to its large landmass.
@findingo Mr Beaver is Canadian and Letterman is American, in both countries it is taught there are 7 continents; and Australia is one of them, and there is North America and South America. If they taught you different, well good! North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica
The level of ignorance in this video is shocking!!! but then again most people in America think South America and North America are 2 continents! this guy should be selling Burgers somewhere in an old and remote place.
Huh? I understand that they are connected but they are still 2 different continents. Asia and Europe are connected and we don't make them 2 separate continents so why would it be any different for the Americas? Im sorry if I sound ignorant right now but in grade school I always learned that there were seven continents, N. America, S. America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, Antarctica. Did you learn different? Im curious...
Thevideogametuts, yes, we study it differently. In europe, southamerica and in the mayority of the world we learn, in our geography books, that we have 5 or 6 continents, but america is always one single continent. The UNO (united nations organization) uses de 5 continent model, which contains europe, africa, america, asia and oceania. In the other hand, antartida has been included as an inhabited continent in some models, so in europe, some people count only the traditional 5 continent model, and others include antartida.
Actually continents are pretty vaguely defined ... As the 2 Americas are connected by a narrow piece of land it wouldn't be wrong to think of them as separate continents ..
Reading the comments I guess there are different ways to see the continents... but as I far as I know there are FIVE continents Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania (yes, Australia is not the whole continent) and AMERICA (as much as "americans" think they are the whole continent, north and south are the same, AND México and Canada are also a part of North America) Saying "North" and "South" it's just a way to classify it. I mean... as far as I know.
Oh! And America is a continent not a country, the name of the country is United States of America. Btw, it isn't "of North America", does that give you a clue?! (;
@collinsrv: There is no such continent named Oceania, continents are large, continuous, discrete masses of land, ideally separated by expanses of water and islands are grouped with the nearby continent. Australia is a country AND a continent. Including new zealand, fiji, papua new guinea, and many many more.
Just to let SOME people know, Australia IS a continent. It is a CONTINENT and a COUNTRY. Oceania and Australasia are REGIONS not CONTINENTS. There's a huge difference. Straight from dictionary.com "one of the main landmasses of the globe, usually reckoned as seven in number (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia, and Antarctica)." Just google Australasia and you'll find "Australasia is a region of Oceania, comprises Australia, New Zealand, the island of New Guinea, and neighbouring islands in the Pacific Ocean."
No, Papua New Guinea by itself is not a large land mass but neither are countries like Cuba or Jamaica and they still belong to a continent. That's like saying only big countries like Canada or the States can be considered part of a continent.
There are actually different ways to classify continents. Depending on the classification, there can be either 4 continents: America, Antarctica, AfroEuroAsia, Oceania; 5 continents: America, Antarctica, Africa, EuroAsia, Oceania; 6 continents: America, Antarctica, Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania or 7 continents: N. America, S. America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Antarctica and Oceania. This is just how it's taught in schools in different parts of the world, so stop fighting in the comments section.
Letterman's internal monologue: "Geez... What am I doing with my life?" Justine Bieber: "The North Pole? No? That's not a continent?" Letterman's internal monologue: "(Sigh). I should retire."
@jihmuns, Hi. I'm from Mexico (yes, inside America). And at schools we are teached one of the FIVE continents models, witch is about being 5 continents: America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania (not mentioning Antarctica as is not a populated one and counting Australia as part of the Oceania continent). And being Europe as itself or within Eurasia IT IS a continent. And yes, even wikipedia has the info.
Just to let SOME people know, Australia is NOT a continent! Australia followed by New Zealand, Papua new guinea and Oceania are in the continent called Australasia. Just needed to get that off my chest.
Just to let SOME people know, Australia IS a continent. It is a CONTINENT and a COUNTRY. Oceania and Australasia are REGIONS not CONTINENTS. There's a huge difference. Straight from dictionary.com "one of the main landmasses of the globe, usually reckoned as seven in number (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Australia, and Antarctica)." Correcting: Mexico is in North America. Many people are confusing about that because Mexico is part of North America, but at the same time it's part of Latin America.
@WangyOne It actually depends on where you learn it, at least in the spanish speaking world Australia is not a continent is a country and the name of the continent where Australia is Oceania, (I know that in the USA the give it a different denomination to continents, for example North and South America, in Mexico we simply call America to the whole land mass)
Wikipedia says: "For example, the Atlas of Canada names Oceania, as does the model taught in Italy, Greece, and in Latin America, Spain and Portugal." I'm Portuguese and was taught that Oceania is a continent so actually it depends on the country you're from.
can you notice southAMERICA and northAMERICA have a word in common?beacuse of americo vespuccio is called that way he discovered ONE continent.this continent is split in 3 subcontinents north central and south.
It's funny 'cause in my school we taught there are 5 continents only and lately I learned that in USA and and other places they say there are 6 or 7 continets. So how many are there official?!
@collinsrv wrong. Australia is the world's smallest continent, comprising the mainland of Australia and proximate islands including Tasmania, New Guinea, the Aru Islands and Raja Ampat Islands. Australia and these nearby islands, all part of the same geological landmass, are separated by seas overlying the continental shelf - the Arafura Sea and Torres Strait between Australia and New Guinea, and Bass Strait between mainland Australia and Tasmania.
To those arguing about the "Oceania and Australia" naming, both are politically correct terms to refer to such continent, this is because of the education model used in certain regions. Regarding the "America" dispute... America is one continent as a whole, but it can be considered 2 separate landmasses (North and South) because of the Panama isthmus. Hence some education models teaches it as 2 separarte continents as they are effectively separated by the Panama Canal.
No, North America and South America sit on two different tectonic/continental plates thus they are two continents. And they don't have a monolithical culture to warrant it being a single entity. Of course that's based on science so you're probably going to ignore that...
I don't know how people are arguing over this, the continents are Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia (/Oceania/Australasia) , Antarctica and Africa. There are SEVEN continents, get over it.
@juancarlosnerv A Quote from National Geographic: "By convention there are seven continents: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica. Some geographers list only six continents, combining Europe and Asia into Eurasia. In parts of the world, students learn that there are just five continents: Eurasia, Australia, Africa, Antarctica, and the Americas"
@dejz1 Australia is not a continent, it´s a country. It belongs to Oceania, that´s the continent. It also includes new zealand, fiji, papua new guinea, and many many more.
The ladies only lke him because he is attractive, but what they are not realizing is that he should know this stuff already. Unless he dropped out of school in elementary school already. Plus, he did say he had gone to those continents, right? He's a dork and I can't believe he has his diploma now.
@eleckolocote Canada was actually rated the smartest country in the world this year. Where was your country? Once Justin became famous he started doing the American curriculum, not Canadian, and although I'm not blaming it on America it probably didn't help he went from one curriculum to another. And one last thing: I thank the Lord everyday people like you are not from my country.
in second grade they taught us a poem, north america is where we are south america is not far Europe is across the sea far away from you and me next to europe is asia and to the south is africa australia's surrounded by blue anarctica is cold through and through
The terms Oceania or Australasia are sometimes substituted for Australia to denote a continent encompassing the Australian mainland and various islands of the Pacific Ocean not part of other continents. For example, the Atlas of Canada names Oceania, as does the model taught in Italy, Greece and in Latin America, Spain and Portugal
@PolvodeestreyaH actually, it's fact that there's north and south america, two DIFFERENT continents, and continents aren't just landmasses, but they are lenient divisions of land, not always separated by water. if that were true, then asia and europe would be the same continent. north america and south america ARE 2 different continents, look it up
I've Always hear of the "Canada is a continent " Thing that Justin said and thought he was really stupid, but for the first time actually hearing &seeing the interview, changes everything!! Damn People can be so mean! Obviously he was joking! I'm no Belieber but respect him & wouldn't be so cruel to him, by making sound stupid when he is just joking! :)
ok i know this is gonna sound weird but i wouldnt mind of justin biebers singing with his new voice, all he need is an acoustic guitar and play it during his concerts and i would fucking give him my whole wallet just to give me a blood sample.
@TheSkcusasu Countries do not need to be a part of a continent. Australia is a continent on its own, surrounding countries are mostly part of Asia or just archipelagos.
@ThisGuyWithNoOpinion America is just 1 continent, subdivided in 3 parts north, central and south america. (Mexico is located in north america). Antarctica politically is no longer considered a continent because of its lack of population. Australia is not a continent (as wikipedia says) the correct name is oceania (I know you got that right). So they are America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania, just 5 as the olympic rings, as the official division at the ONU
@btpcoffey he called Canada and the North Pole continents, and he couldn't remember Australia and Europe. your comment just shows that you're obviously more of a belieber than you thought you were
@AserHapi well in Serbia, that is in Europe, Balkan...we learn about america, in three parts as one is North, Middle and South i dont know how they teach you, but thats how they teach us
Technically Oceania is a region, and Australia is a continent that describes the country and the nearby islands, but some people use them interchangeably.
I know not everyone in America is like this (of course), but the few americans I've spoken with reveal to be just like this, you know, not having basic knowledge of the world (besides USA itself) it seems to be a large part of the population is like this even though it's considered a developed country (amongst the top of the developed countries!). Seems to me that the american educational system has to change. p.s. I know Justin Bieber is canadian
@ThisGuyWithNoOpinion This happened in Italy BTW, the name thing...Canada still not a continent. The closest thing to a continent country is India, and even that it's considered a subcontinent.
@Hyorinmaru26 Oh i forgot to say the fact that he forgot is not even the problem for me is the host of the show allowing such things as "australia" and "south america" being said.
Ok so i have a few things to say: 1. Australia is a lovely lovely.....COUNTRY..... 2. America is a whole and i dont care if you're education system is wrong and has a superiority complex.....so America goes from Alaska all the way down to La Patagonia, and sure theres NORTH CENTRAL AND SOUTH but is just a subdivision and are for no reason continents on they're own. So I am just as an American as all the people from the USA, :) sorry if you dont like my opinion and if you were thaught wrong.
OK, he was under a lot of pressure in front of a lot of people...minds fail under those conditions (called "choking", I believe). That being said, anyone who has ever played Risk NEVER chokes while naming the continents or even identifying them on a map.
@findingo I didn't mean any disrespect. When I talked about you, I meant everyone in Mexico, because that's where I'm from and I was taught that there are 5 continents. When I came to the US, I was taught something different. If you read my comment I was agreeing with you :] There are both ignorant and highly intelligent people everywhere, regardless of where you're from.
