I remember in college, whenever I'd listen to this in my dorm with my door open, it was always fun whenever another guy from the dorm would walk by at the start of the song and give me a weird look of: "you're fucking listening to Justin Beiber???" To which I would tell them to just wait a few moments... when Corey screams the beginning of Psychosocial, the reactions were always priceless
+Cody Jones Nah, Cory will be a legend if he did this at his own concerts, or if he performed this with Justin Twatface and the rapper can spell his name
Can't believe it's already a decade since this wonderful mashup was created. :D I've returned to this video so many times during those years and it does always put a smile on my face as it did the first time I heard this. 17M views is not enough for this masterpiece. :D
People have different tastes in music. Some of them like Beiber since he was an androgynous boy engineered by buisnessmen (who then developped a Michael Jackson syndrome) and because they are 14 year old girls without taste or judgement, who have never experienced romance before. Some people like Slipknot because they are inadequate young adults who don't have much social ability, because they take solace in a verbal violence which makes them feel like they're able to take on their bullies and because pretending to like this noise makes them part of an imaginary community over the internet. Some, like me, like to see both of them fused together because we're condescending snobs who like to see both sides of the debate being turned into a parody which actually sounds good. Like I said: people have different tastes in music.
Today my friend called me cynical. I denied it categorically. Then I noticed I had had a couple thumbs up for this comment. I then realised I was in fact pretty pessimistic with my interpretation of people.
GregTom2 as is the entirety of 4 chan. congratulations, your opinion is your opinon however, and no one can fault you for that (but everyone on the internet will certainly try). bravo sir. bravo.
"Some genius did a mash up of us and Bieber, and I've never laughed soo hard in my fucking life and it's creepy how well it goes together" - Corey Taylor
I like to imagine that some unsuspecting teenage girl went looking for a Justin Bieber song on RU-vid, came across this, and either screamed in horror falling backwards off her chair, or became a Slipknot fan.
Imagine this... >you start playing this song at a party >everyone thinks its Bieber >you thus attract all the girls to the dancefloor >then the vocals come on >everyone stops awkwardly >the DJ starts smirking like a motherfucker
This never gets old, I first heard this like, 2010s I laughed my ass off but as I play it I everytime, I'vr come to love it. When I hear "Baby" in Malls or on a daily commute, I sing it with Psychosocial lyrics. Good times good times...and I'm a huge Slipknot fan.
Maverick999 Yeah, I use that term "artist" very loosely. Both, of these people produce *extremely* obnoxious "music"... But together, they seem to meld quite amazingly! It's pretty impressive!
***** He is!!? I really had *no idea*!! All I ever heard from him was the awful Screaming! Well, Thanks for the info! Now I'm quite interested in actually hearing his singing voice sometime =)
I unironically like this song. When I worked at Kohls and heard "Baby" all the time, I would imagine this version and it made the song much more tolerable. No other mashup has blended 2 so very different songs as well as you did. I will say part of the greatness is actually putting a tiny bit of Bieber's song in there.
There's some incorrect explanations as to why this fits so well. This is why it fits: Baby is in the musical key of E Flat Major. This key contains, with no tonal variations, the following musical notes: E flat, F, G, A flat, B flat, C, D. Psychosocial is in a different musical key, but the creator has shifted the pitch so that the singing is in the same key as "baby" and uses the same notes. The two songs are now tonally compatible, and either song would fit with the other. Combine that with the fact that both songs are using the same structure, you have a good match. If you say that chord patterns are the reason this fits, you don't understand music and should stop giving people the wrong information.
This is the only "Slipknot" song I know, and when i heard the drummer of slipknot died, I was genuinely sad cuz i remembered listening to this mashup a lot when I was younger.
I'm a die hard slipknot fan but this is hilarious! ahahahahaha i don't know how can someone "hate" this, it's a joke cmon and it's awesome hahahahaha it's ridiculous how funny it is xD
My thoughts exactly, man. Some of these commentors clearly can't see how funny and entertaining this truly is, despite the odd combination. I think true fans of either Bieber or Slipknot should be able to calm the hell down and just enjoy the mash-up.
dude... omg... i love slipknot more than my own family... but there is no way this video dosnt make u smile... like whoever made it was like "if im gonna do it im gonna fuckin do it right" lmao
No one realises how much work was taken to do this song it's more less been ripped apart, and completely rebuilt, just shows how talented people are when it comes to editing awesome job to who ever done this 👌🏻
Playing this in the car with other people is always fun. Their faces twist as they look at me, puzzled and afraid. I look back at them with a smile and wait for Corey to start. Then I see their relief, and then we all share a laugh as they usually say something like 'Oh... now I get it'. Good times.
it's genuinely intriguing that all music is so similar. the fact that the beat for a pop song can accompany a metal song with a working meter, and even key signature is awesome!
I'm not sure if the original Slipknot song was in the same key or tempo as JB song. The tracks can be slowed down and pitch shifted (and most likely are). Why these two songs work together is because of the poppy chorus of the Slipknot song and the lack of melody in the verses (it would work over any chords because it doesn't have any melody - it's just shouting). But yeah, I think it was an awesome mashup.
IlIl Teratoma well why don't you get mad about it? we aren't debating whether or not a musical group/ artist is bad, just how two obviously different genres of music can so seamlessly blend together. Please don't be so ignorant.
IlIl Teratoma No, that's not why they blend together. You could take two pop songs and they would not blend together well. It has nothing to do with the genre. Why they blend together well is because the verses have no melody so the chords in the background don't matter. And the chorus melody just happens to fit the Justin Bieber song chords. The Slipknot song is pitch shifted - it's not originally in the same key as the JB song. And there's nothing wrong with being pop or "pop metal" (which Slipknot IMO doesn't even fit - "pop metal" = 80s glam metal/hard rock like Def Leppard). They are just genres. Genre doesn't make your music bad or good. There are lots of bad metal bands (that are not pop metal - I just simply don't like them) and there are good pop bands. Being metal doesn't make your music good and being pop doesn't make your music bad.
I watched this for the first time years ago in some compilation and it just randomly popped into my head again all these years later. See you all when the same thing happens a few years from now lol
Greatest mash up ever made. The GOAT. I remember using RU-vid to mp3 to download this; listened to it throughout my middle and high school years. Coming back to this mash up years later; it still fucking slaps
There's practically no Bieber here already. He says "baby" a couple of the times. The rest is his well-paid and extremely talented producers, combined with Slipknot.
why the hell did you have to pick justin bieber...there are so many singers and bands and songs.. even fucking animal sounds would do better. It´s well made but ..really?!?!
Corey Talyor would kill Justin Beaver just by looking at him or slip knot's fans just beating the crap out of him while he cried for his girly fans to help him. Also any argument you have would be invalid because Slip Knot is way better than a little boy with a girly voice.
