The Chicago Bears lost their 13th straight game after a 41-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs (and Taylor Swift). Justin Fields struggled, finishing 11-of-22 for 99 yards, a touchdown and interception. Colin Cowherd explains how the Bears have set up Fields to fail. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers narrowly won their first game after a questionable decision to go for it on fourth down and on their own 25-yard line. Watch as Colin explains why Brandon Staley remains on the hot seat despite defeating the Minnesota Vikings.

I'm from Chicago and I can't believe how much bears fans still celebrate the 85 bears. I have asked friends if they had a choice, would they take all the Patriots' superbowls, or the 85 bears superbowl. They always say the 85 bears. It's bananas! They just can't let go and move forward.

This is a shallow take. Either a QB can see the whole field and throw with anticipation, or he can't, and Fields just can't despite all the effort and roster resources the team has added in the offseason. He simply doesn't keep his eyes downfield when he runs in the backfield the way Rodgers, Mahomes, and Kyler can. 2-3 times per game this year he's missed gimme TDs cause he just doesn't see the whole field.

Fields absolutely has enough around him to at least look competent. They have traded for weapons, drafted linemen, and hired a coach who was stated to be a quality hire. I do think it's unfair to expect a playoff run from him, but I don't think it's unfair to expect him to play like a top-20 QB in his current situation, which he has yet to do this season. Why are so many talking heads avoiding the obvious? Fields is not an NFL franchise quarterback. It's not all coaching (or lack thereof) or the O-line. He can't read defenses or throw well enough for that level. Move him to WR or RB. He holds the ball way too long because he can't read what the defense is doing. He averages holding the ball more than 4 seconds when he's sacked, longer than any other qb currently. The experiment failed, get ready to move on.

In college the throwing lanes/windows are gigantic compared to in the NFL, and he was used to that, and to his O line being able to give him all day to throw, because college defenses are not nearly as fast, or as athletic, or as big, or as aggressive, or as able to get to the qb quickly as they are in the NFL. All college qbs that play in the NFL have to adapt to that, and Fields has never been able to. Surely his OC, and HC, and his lack of weapons, and his bad O line, and the weak offensive game plan/scheme plays into that, but I still think he would not be able to hit some if those routes he is not hitting even if all of those things were ideal.

As a Chiefs fan being petty is love it if the chargers keep winning just enough of their games to convince their front office to keep Staley around. Because that dude has cost them so many games and kept them away from being as good as their talent could have them be. It’s fascinating how many games you can genuinely point out choices he made in key moments based on his analytics perspective that cost them games. The longer they keep him the longer they waste the potential of one of the leagues top QBs because his decisions consistently cost them games. The fact they missed the playoffs two years ago, losing so many close games, and the way they lost in the playoffs last season is wild. They genuinely will never hit their potential until they finally cut the dude loose
