Justin had such a charisma on stage and he would draw you right in with his stories and music. I was so glad I got to see him a few times over the years. My favorite song is probably Mama's Eyes, but this song and Yuma are amazing songs also.

Brilliant. Voice. Lyrics. Guitar playing. O Justin!

I am convinced this song is about a confederate soldier deserting. He fears the rain will cause the river to rise and delay his escape. It seems Lone Pine Hill is where he said goodbye it his lady before leaving and he holds that place in his mind as a safe place.

This one blew me away --- so powerful. I'm amazed when a writer can paint really clear pictures with very few words, and this one is A++ in that category. And Justin's presentation is perfect for it too. Another great find in the archives!

Powerful song. I know Justin struggled with addiction and growing up in the shadow of his famous father, but I don't think he ever got the credit he deserved. Although a little quirky, I personally think he was a musical genius. I'm still sad he succumbed to his demons so young...

@David Emswiler I wholeheartedly agree on all points, especially the musical genius part. Some folks transcend whatever personal stories they’ve got and their particular gift lives on, and that how I view JTE.

Justin's guitar sound always grabbed me, and expressed as much as his words. People are still trying to learn his unique picking style. He was a diamond, though surprisingly, many just saw coal.

Don, another great re-up. Justin is definitely underrated as David said, had a tough life from the start just trying to live up to that name. Song thematically reminded me of " Galveston " by Glen Campbell which you've never drafted too.,( I did check this time). It is another beautiful Jimmy Webb/Glenn Campbell collaboration that the lyrics will really hit you hard on.

This song is about a Confederate soldier running at the end of the war. He never owned a slave, he never owned anything of value, he never believed in the cause of slavery; he was just fighting because as a young man he believed in defending his home state. At the end, he realized that he'd just risked his life and gone through hell for nothing. So he's gonna run. Back home, to his blue eyed baby.

I think this song is about a Union soldier who's just shot a Confederate soldier (shaking like a pistol in a young mans hand there in the pale moon light) as his life slowly ebbs away he remembers/dreams about his girl, and wishes he was back home with her.
