the fools will be the patronising ones with talent in their small toe, there will never be another one like JTE, I absolutely love is music and have just learned a whole lot more to add to my busking list and am going out to sing out loud for Justin
Agreed. Yep, all the talking through the performance kinda gives you an idea of the calibre of some of the folk attending...Sad, I did feel though that there was a bit of a self-deprecative tone which didn't help...unless of course that tone was just in response to how he was being received?..rolling with the punches, so to speak... Pain = art...and again, an artists untimely death creates a wider audience (myself included) and the recognition that was probably not as received as it should have been during his life...Sometimes I feel like these people don't always hear what they should from their friends (good and bad) and the confusion amplifies when they only hear some things from the critics...of course I could be wrong?...maybe they're just damaged beyond repair? Tough life for an artist, even tougher for one with addiction problems...RIP JTE
OMG, how I’m going to miss him. When I get depressed I listen to him and it is therapeutic knowing I’m not alone. I’m 79 and still going through pain. R.I.P. !!
Hey, I get what you're saying about listening to this kind of music when you're in pain. I do the same. My wife has dementia and sad country sure does speak to me these days. There's something about listening to sad songs, or (as the great Townes Van Zant described his songs) just things that happen songs. Sometimes shit happens and it's not nice. It's good to hear those songs when I'm feeling down. Like you, I don't feel so alone. Good luck living your life. Sometimes it's pretty hard. I hope the music provides solace for your soul.
Awww man, we’re all gonna miss him. A wild one, but he sure burnt bright and brought a lotta joy, peace, solace and comfort to many. How’re you going? What’s life like?
I was watching this video by chance and had no idea about his recent passing, kind of eerie now as I think about it, after watching this a friend emailed me saying " did you know Justin Townes Earle died " ? and it was the strangest thing to read his email just after watching this video, wow i couldn't believe it. Hang in there Julian life is not easy for anyone. Peace !
Really? He's indignant and acting a fool. Its like he's standing there saying 'look at me, I can put a gun in my mouth! I have been given everything now watch me drop a deuce on everyone!' Kind of removes any default sympathy you'd give the average person. He was a big boy. He sought out his own demise. His greatest contribution was his example of what not to be. That will be his legacy.
@@dknstrkt There's this human trait called empathy, and I feel it for people who suffer from addiction, and their loved ones who have to endure such horrible losses. But you do you.
@@EctomorphEcstasy As a recovering indignant addict, I appreciate your empathy. I know the hate he was feeling right there as he laughs from a distance at the future crashing towards him. We have to get out of our own way. This video is a perfect example of why pride is one of the seven deadly sins. I struggle daily.
In the intro, you can see how hard it can be for someone to talk about their addictions. They try to lighten it up. The audience took it took far. "woo hoo! You're gonna die! Party!" But when you listen to the song and watch the performance, you see how serious and consuming his demons were. I got the pleasure of seeing him live twice and he was great each time. The first time left a huge impression on me. Big loss. RIP JTE
I'm with you 100%, it sucks!! I guess in the music scene these days, however, the artists are glad to just halfway fill a room, it blows, most kids these days just do not get music!!
Love you Justin, you were taking way too early from us. I got to meet him 7-8 times at his shows, and he was always the nicest guy to me. He even remembered me from his previous shows and asked me if I wanted to smoke with him. I don’t even smoke, but I did that last night. We talked about addiction and how it’s impacted our lives. He gave me the motivation to get past my demons and move forward. Wish he could have done the same. Love you Justin, rest easy buddy.
Very talented young man for sure. He gave one of the most honest and soulful performances I've ever seen and I doubt those in the audience realize what they were seeing and hearing. I knew someone very much like him. He's gone too and I miss him very much. Such a shame addiction takes so many talented people. RIP.
I was lucky enough to have seen Mr. Earle front row when Harlem River Blues came out. My grandfather's generation had Hank Williams, my father had Johnny Cash and I'm so blessed to have Justin TOWNES Earle. R.I.P big bro ❤
Can’t stand audiences that hack all the way through performances. Why don’t they shut up ! Rest in peace young man...your addiction is over as is your pain.
He lived his life with no apologies for his addictions and in a sense that's as honest as you can be. It's just a shame the world will never get to enjoy new music from him ever again because he was a true roots musician in every sense of the word. He loved and respected the music that defined this country and every song is a story or a journey he takes you on. I only saw him live once but his presence was something to behold. Tall, gangly, and cocky as all get out but it was mesmerizing to see him hold the attention of the room. My heart and soul is filled with sadness for his widow Jenn and his little girl Etta James Earle. It seems sobriety was always something that would elude him and drugs although they brought us some of his best recordings and live performances also were his undoing. RIP JTE.
Certainly one of the most honest and genuine musicians making great music these days. Great songwriter, interesting and unique guitarist, and just a joy to watch. I am a fan, he is on my playlist every day.
He is the only one playing guitar he is an amazing musician. I was fortunate enough to have mixed this show at the Cats Cradle. He is actual a very nice person just has a problem with addiction. Hope things are well for him!
Andrew young you say your were the mixer at this show ? And you point out there’s only one guitar here?? Must be another guitar added afterwards then ,as there’s clearly another guitar playing lead at times. Your obviously a kook and and a fantasist....
@@wilyinfidel1091 look dude, I’m the head of audio at this venue, been there 14 years! Ask Dan Scram the man that made this video. One guitar, one guitarist and one helluva player!!
some of us have personalities that just can't be fixed. RIP JTE Just go along 'til they turn out the lights There's nothin' we can do to fight it No man's got it made till he's far beyond the pain And we who must remain go on living just the same I once knew a man, very talented guy He's sing for the people and people would cry They knew that his song came from deep down inside You could hear it in his voice and see it in his eyes And so he traveled along, touch your heart, then be gone Like a flower, he bloomed till that old Tennesse wind Called him home Bernie Leadon for Gram Parsons
I was just thinking about Gram Parsons while watching this video. Honestly didn't know much about Justin. Definitely am a fan of his father. Over the past couple of weeks I have been to him and really these songs are amazing. Like GP gone too soon for the same reason. Man, I don't know. All I can say is thanks for these incredible songs that make the world a better place at least for the three minutes while we are listening. RIP Justin. My condolences to the family.
Well- he basically predicted his own death on-stage- he survived another 9+ years- sad that he lives behind In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer Marie Earle, whom he married in 2013; their daughter, Etta St. James Earle, who was born in 2017; his mother, Carol Ann Earle; and his brothers, Ian and John Henry.
Well- if your going to write the man’s obituary for whatever reason you thought necessary, how about have some respect and get it right? Maybe work in some legible english. Some day a jackass that doesnt know you from any other jackass bumpin em, is gonna stomp and dance all over your obituary, only part they got right was the fact that your 2nd wife was also your sister. Didnt you predict that and the two children with her. Sad though both girls
His constant alternate bass picking with the thumb is the rhythm and his independant melody lines with his first finger make it sound like 2 guitars...the syncopation. Keith Richards asked Brian Jones 'who's playing the other guitar' when he first heard Robert Johnson records.
I don’t think you could get a good man in your life you have a lot to say about it haha is that the time you come back to work on the day I can go back in my mind and go back in my head and get my life back to work tomorrow around my house and then I’ll try to get my car alarm back
I have never heard of him until now when I read he has passed away. What a shame. I like his guitar playing style and honest lyrics. It seems the more gifted they are the more drug use either legal or illegal. I think he would have had a bright future and I would have paid to go see him.
Seriously. Watch 3:26-3:31 and you can actually see him playing it all. Incredible. I saw him play this in person and I was blown away. The dude next to me was like, "He can't possibly be playing the second part." It's amazing. SO GOOD LIVE. Do not miss the chance to see this guy. I've been to hundreds of shows in my life, and this was the best. Can't wait to see him again this week. It's gorgeous.
I.ve seen steve unplugged a few times and I play very simularly myself . WHat you are seeing in Justin is just him no one else. It's a complicated blend of picking and rythm I can see who got him started, but he has surpased the master. No one can command a stage unplugged the way the Earls do No one! It adds to the entire experience .
He is not playing lead in this song. If he's the only one up there; that lead is recorded and he's playing rhythm to it. Clear as day during the lead break.
I can't help thinking of what Kieth Richards said about Brian Jones - that there are some people you just know are never going to be seventy years old.
Even if there was 2 guitars here, which there of course is not, I did not see anyone in this video try to sell it that there is only one guitar, there could be 3000 guitars there, Justin could secretly be a guitar disguised as a human in a secret scheme for the guitar people to slowly take over humaity one guitar at time, don't worry about it, enjoy the video, which is why it has been posted, just for a little enjoyment, nothing will be resolved or gained from watching this.
yup..its jus him..purty easy ta tell. jus seen em las month..i was fortunate enuf ta get up on stage and sing with his openin act..cory chisel..and as much fun as it was..his performance was the highlight of the evenin..i love him..his music has changed my life. hes my hero! lol
Tragic loss :(. How fucked up is it that we celebrate addiction only when it's someone we don't know personally? As fans of music, we all need to take some responsibility and show love to our favorite musicians in a different way. Cheering him on at one of his lowest points and Justin's need to make fun of it and himself is really telling of what the real problem with is with our culture. RIP JTE.
I saw him play in Bristol UK in June 2012. Amazing. He actually uses his pinky as well, you just can't see it!! Like he said, this song is about knowing what's bad for him and doing it anyway cos he enjoys it even though it makes him feel crap....It doesn't have to make sense when it sounds this good.....
@bluegraphite1 i am right there with you, my friend. i am a recovering addict and can tell you it's easy to quit, and hard to live after. justin comes by his addictive qualities honestly, it's in his DNA, and God bless him for his efforts to get, and stay, straight. His father, Steve Earle, my hero from way, way back, is a continuing inspiration for me in my own recovery. Take care of yourself, Justin. A lot of us out here love you.
Man I did not know he died until today. Depressing all the good artists die to young. Though not judging we all got our row to make as Woody Guthrie once sang. The sad thing is as a musician and singer songwriter myself I know I am actually playing for myself even when I have a crowd. I feel the most for his daughter. May things get better for her in the future I hope. And people commenting on how artists are de humanized it is very true. We create songs because we feel to much of this world and have to release it or go mad. Some of us like Justin lose ourselves in drugs and addiction and some of us just keep writing songs as I do. Rest in Peace Justin you will not be forgotten by me at least.
Find it so funny people are seriously considering the idea of there being a second guitarist, let alone one "off stage". When did you ever go see a singer-songwriter that had a second guitarist actually hide away and play chords for them? He's got more than enough talent to play this. If you have doubts, do yourself a favor and see the man live; he'll blow you away.
I think I just woke feeling bad again and as I look around I see another motel room destroyed n I staggered over to another dose left over from last night and now I'm awake again slippin n slidin n hitting the road...I can't seem to shake this life don't know how just trying to sell a song or two.
I just lost my buddy to vices, 46 years old, could sing the shit out of any country song, you would never think he was born in Galway Ireland...he had everything to live for and everything to die for..it took a large portion of my understanding of a troubled mind ..i hope i never understand it.
Yeah that’s good I’ll see ya soon love ya ya man I’ll talk to you soon love ya man ya know what you wanna see you soon love ya man I’ll talk to him tomorrow love you and him happy happy new hope you’re doing good I’ll talk to you later love you I’ll let you know when I’m done
I think the dude who shouted 'Lucky 13!' was actually trying to be supportive and it's actually quite funny. Anyway, JT is my age. I've had similar struggles. This song hits me real hard.
This slid under the radar for 8 years and I happen to bump into it after randomly cruising the comments section. Thanks for stickin up for the music. I am a big admirer of the work you do, shining a light on up and comers and giving them a broader platform to share their artistry and craft. JTE was gone too soon and it's a damn shame. But you can't admire the good without accepting the bad. And JTE's pain was probably part of what made him so good and so real, same with Hayden Karchmer and Benjamin Todd.
Whathuhwhowhere is the way to you pick it up and I’ll come back to you later I’ll let you know when I’ll come get him tomorrow and then we will go to see you soon love ya man I’ll talk to him later thanks 🙏 is your birthday love ya too haha is the way to ya man I’ll talk to you soon love ya man I’ll see you soon love ya man I’ll see you later tonight I’ll talk to you soon love you too haha is your time of your day to come back to work on your time tomorrow around five or three tomorrow morning and I gotta go this afternoon I wanna do you
I can understand why some people think that there are 2 guitarist. It doesn't seem possible to play the way he does...but it's really just him lol. Check out the vid of John Henry....a song he wrote for his granddad. I have tried to do it without success...the fingers on his right hand are somehow independent of each other....he has a really unique style :) I can only shake my head in wonder.
His a fantastic singer/song writer! And addiction is a life long battle but when your playing in bars and whatever your vices are, is available readily, staying sober takes will, strength, and the support of good people! I hope one day he can find a better way, before the vices end up killing him..
