They are truly THE voice of Canada, joining us together from coast to coast for over 30 years...through Gordon's prolific words and their music we can truly celebrate what it means to be Canadian..I am so proud of them, and this great country...Sad yes, but so grateful for the musical gifts the Tragically Hip have given this country...Music, the great immortalizer... :-)

Two things. Using this platform to disrespect Trudeau while claiming to be a Hip fan, insults Gord Downie. Two, comparing Trudeau to American politics, namely Trump is a sign of immaturity and ignorance. Please enjoy the music and learn from it.

It was pretty cool upon moving here in '94 hearing The Hip blasting from other cars in traffic. I see you as a NATURAL BORN LEADER , a VISIONARY driven by BENEVOLENCE for all. It's all about the music. Tragically Hip. I too, am glad they didn't break out that fateful night, on SNL. But they sure were in top form that night. The Tragically Hip is OURS. Nicely said JT! I doubt any politician could have said it better. And then relating the sentiment to how many Canadians really do feel about the Hip. It's true that many of us are surprised they never really broke into the US market in any major way. After all, we all know how great this band is. But then again how many Americans could relate to a band that sings about Milgard's story breaking on the CBC? Then to tie it back to how we Canadians came to really "own" the Hip as a national treasure I thought was very smart and genuine. I mean, haters are gonna hate so let them, but for the vast majority of us if we put aside partisan sentiments we have to give props to the PM for his solid response.

As a Hip fan since forever it seems, it is as your PM says....mixed emotions watching them perform. There's a video of Gord waving to the crowd at the end of a show. Really makes me sad. I always thought they were the coolest band growing up in northern Wisconsin. I can just now pray he lives out his life to the fullest and is content when his time comes.

Yes, The Hip are our band.

I like Ron McLean, a lot, because he is genuine. But here he is just blubbering, and about something totally unrelated to the Hip concert. Justin surprised me here with how he handled it. He could have taken the obvious easy road that the question directed him to and talk about what his father did to give a sense of pride to many other Canadians just like Ron McLean felt. But he didn't. He somehow remembered a Hip line that related to hockey and then segued that to celebrate the Hip and what they mean to many Canadians. That was mature and masterful on Justin's part and it forced me to give him more credit than I had prevously.

I actually think that Justin Trudeau is going to do good things for our country! & He Loves the Hip! He is a young smart man! And best of all, Gord Downie likes him too! And we all know what a smart Canadian man he is!!!

Pretty cool band, pretty hip Prime Minister. It is so nice to see the Canadian pride that has come back across the nation after a decade of embarrassment on the world stage by our previous government. It is also great to see so many Canadians happy again, even in this time of sadness about Gordie's health, celebrating their contribution to Canadian culture. Best to be happy for the moments that we have as one never knows when they may end. Ironically enough, The Hip, like so many other Canadian bands, likely would not have been able to make a living doing what they do without the Canadian content rules for radio airplay that was brought in by Trudeau Sr. in the 1970's. Sitting at the cottage up north with friends drinking beer and listening to American music just would not feel the same :)
