Andrew Joseph yeah I went to an mlb game and these trashy girls were flirting with the pitcher and distracting him while he was trying to practice just cause they wanted a ball. Like tf
Bruno mars yeah but he got even better when with the astros. Why do you think he got even more popular after he joined the astros? Pretty sure is spin rate got better too.
He was better before. Cy Young, Triple Crown and an MVP. 2011 was his best year so this is the year right after. There's no way a pitcher at 35 who is already a first ballot Hof is gonna be better than at 25-30 that's just ridiculous.
I am always amazed by these behind the pitcher POV’s. The showcasing of their accuracy only indicates how talented you have to be to play at this level.
Kavalan ... i was a catcher in a men’s senior league. We had a pitcher that threw a heavy ball. I would take hairspray and coat the palm and pocket. It would make the fastball sound crazy with a huge snap
I used to be too I used to be obsessed with making the ball break but all it is is just spinning the ball. That's literally almost all it is. Just take a cue ball and spin it it's the same thing with the fastball curve slider change split cut blah blah blah just spin it the way you want it to go.
This camera angle gives me a great appreciation of how amazing it is that these guys can hit the catchers target so accurately. Not easy to do from 60 feet away, with stuff that has great movement.
There are some defensive catchers with a serious cannon of an arm that can hit over 90 mph from their knees. That's how Kenley Jansen earned a spot as a pitcher. Hes originally a catcher.
Like the other guy said, there's a lot of catchers that can pitch. Aside from catchers needing to know all about pitching for their job, one thing that catchers need to be able to do is throw to second and third for steal attempts; some catchers rely on quickly releasing the ball with moderate arm strength, while others rely on brute arm strength - the best catchers have both. In some games that are a for sure loss, they'll have position players pitch so that they don't exhaust their bullpens. Russell Martin's defensive highlights should give you an idea of a catcher that could easily be a pitcher if they wanted.
Justin Verlander is a one man bullpen, he has every pitch in his arsenal, arguable the best fastball and changeup in the Majors, and can throw with force into the 8th or even 9th inning. If the Tigers win the World Series Verlander will win the Cy Young Award in 2012
Watching him with the tigers was electric! The first game I watched him pitch he took a no hitter into the 8th and the first couple innings it seemed like he wasn’t throwing his fastball with max effort and still throwing easy 96-97 and then the game got later and one of his last pitches was 102! One of the best in this era for sure!
That's JV's most underrated trait in my opinion. He's fresh forever as long as he's not injured. It's not a saying, but like in Boxing and Running, he's got an Iron Arm like a Chin or Lung. JV is the only pitcher to reach 102 pitching 8 innings in, and he's reached 100 or 101 on at least 15 occasions. The reason I know this? Verlander came from my school, Old Dominion and I have to pride him every chance I get.
When I see Verlander in this session of bullpen it remember me the movie For Love Of The Game and there's an scene exactly like this pre the game of the movie when the pitcher is talking with the manager about who's gonna catch him in the game and he wanted to ''Goss''
I've always wanted this spot at a game to see the speed and breaks up close but this is as good as it gets. Verlander is a Machine, I went back to certain pitches so many times this video took close to 25 mins to watch. Thanks for the incredible footage - Subscribed.
that's friggin awesome man I sure can remember the feeling of throwing pitches off the baseball line and trying to put my pitches where the mit was. hes a damn good pitcher
last warm up 2 seam fastball at 2:50...talks to pitching coach (Jeff Jones) then starts throwing his change up...holding the ball with middle and ring finger....that's the famous change up that takes the fastball at 96 or 97 to 86 or 87....and his curve is killer when its right!
I played high level baseball and could turn a straight 98mph fastball into a 400 plus foot homer very often. But Verlander is a special talent with so much movement on his fastball you are lucky to square it up. Nobody sits on him.
id have to close my eyes and try to time it. coz theres no way i could see that. insane. but even when guys were throwing at most in the low 80's in hs it was darn near impossible. baseball is hard.
Funny story about Verlander and the 2006 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. In those days, Verlander was arguably the hardest throwing pitcher in the Major Leagues, routinely hitting in the high-90s and often 100+. Verlander was defeated in game 1 of the World Series by the Cardinals' rookie, Anthony Reyes. The Cardinals had just battled the Mets in a grueling 7-game NLCS series whereas the Tigers had coasted to a 4-0 sweep of the Oakland A's in the ALCS. The Tigers were ready to start game 1 of the World Series with their ace, Verlander. The Cardinals had used up all their quality starters and were forced to go with their #5 starter Verlander. The Cardinals really had no choice. Surprisingly, the Cardinals take game 1. The series comes back to St. Louis. Down 3 games to 1, Verlander is starting game 5. As the story goes, the Cardinals' manager, Tony La Russa, inquired as to whether the stadium display of the pitch speed to the fans on the scoreboard is official. He was told that it was not. The display is only for fan information/entertainment. The pitch speed is of no specific interest to Major League Baseball and is not an official "statistic" like RBIs and batting average. La Russa asked if it would technically be legal to display some other number up there for a pitch speed, even if it were not accurate. The answer was - well, technically, it's not exactly illegal. So, La Russa somehow worked it out that, when Verlander was throwing, the pitch speed on display would be in the low 90s. That's what happened. The Tigers bench (particularly the coaches) were noticing that Verlander was inexplicably pitching much "slower" than he usually does - clearly referencing the scoreboard display. They were seeing a lot of 91s and 92s up there when they were used to see a lot of 99s and 100s. They were asking Verlander, "Are you feeling OK? Anything wrong?" Verlander was fine but it was getting into his head. "Why am I not throwing as hard as I usually do" he had to be thinking. It was a total mind trick. Verlander lasted 6 innings. He gave up 3 runs, 2 of which were unearned because of Verlander's own 2-run throwing error. Verlander had made an error in game 1, also. Personally, I think that was kind of cheesy on the part of Tony La Russa. It's impossible to know whether that little trick made any difference. But, nonetheless, Verlander was 0-2 as the Tigers' ace in the 2006 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Love your videos- But I Would like to see footwork on all these pitchers. Very important part of delivery we could learn from seeing. Keep videos coming. Thanks. Go Bucks! Go Rangers!
@@johnm5081 i think the race card comes up way too much but usually only if it benefits them. why would jones lie about that? boston is known for it's racism, last team in the mlb to have a black player, other players have said the same thing. not saying the whole city or all sox fans are racist but is it really so hard to believe. besides jones seems like one of those honest to a fault guys. like if he's your friend he'll tell you you have really bad body odor today
@@sjang816 ive been to plenty of games at Fenway (100+) and many other ballparks. Never heard that word being said. If a white person yelled that out in this day in age he would have been called out by some other fans. The last time I heard the n word at a ballpark was in Philadelphia a fee years ago by a black ballpark employee to another ballpark employee
The amazing thing is how a guy like this can put several pitches right into the same location repeatedly. That is called CONTROL. Fucking amazing and why guys like Verlander do not pitch in AAA anymore. AAA is what it is..... MLB is a different world.
I’d like to see competitions providing these pitchers the opportunity to throw at a variety of targets at various distances. Put some targets in motion. Fun to see how accurate they are.
BootlegFightVideo 3 MEDICORE YEARS? LMFAO! 2014? Yes, terrible year in which he was INJURED. Was 2013 a down year for a true ace like Verlander? Yes? But over 200 innings with over 200 strikeouts and a ERA at 3.46 is NOT a mediocre year. That's within 10 points of Chris sales ERA this year. Was that a mediocre year too? 2015 he was still injured and finished with a 3.38 ERA which ISNT MVP worth but that's still ace-number 1 starter territory. 1 terrible year, that's it
BootlegFightVideo ahh I see. You're going off of wins huh? You've just lost all intellectual credibility with that statement. Not much else to say here
verlander is awesome. i was suprised that he lost his stuff in the 2012 world series. but give the giants their credit verlander is still the man though
