I so wish someone would recognize that this sound track is too S L OW …please listen carefully to the C D of the opera and listen to the real color of my voice…AND COMPARE…you would make this old singer smile a bit…thank you ever so very much 😩😌❤️❤️🙏🏼
@@justinodiaz6501 Wow, it’s an honor-you’re a massive inspiration to me! I’m a young bass (or bass-baritone, who knows?) currently going into my third year of study at Indiana University. Thank you for giving the world the gift of your art!
@@ronkalinovsky6898 thanks for your kind words,Ron!….btw…I’ve always avoided putting a label on what kind of bass …baritone..base baritone, basso cantante ….basso profondo …I’d go crazy to fit so many different expectations and definitions….so I identify myself when ever I can I say: I have been a bass, and I have been a baritone…some repertoire falling in between…I either can sing it or I can’t…so to hell with labels….WHO CARES , I always say…so ultimately,it’s the repertoire that defines what I was on any particular day …..let others fight it out….lol….jd
Thank you for the link for comparison ! I was wondering why his voice sounded so much darker & more basso-like than I have ever heard him --- as if he had a richer, deeper voice when he was _younger_ which would be unusual, especially for a lower-voiced singer. I was thinking :: too bad he lost those textures of his voice too early as he aged.
Hmm, you seem to be right. Not quite a semitone, but almost. I have the DVD and heard them side by side. But strangely enough I don't think it changes the timbre of his voice much. Which is probably why I thought you were wrong.
Unfortunately, for the film and so that the notes of the opera singers do not sound so unpleasant to the general public, Zeffirelli decided to lower the recording half tone when making the final edition. Absolutely distorts the original sound. I have this on DVD, LP, and CD. Only the DVD is half tone down. So good opera-film, but to ruin it with that bad effect ... a sin!
He is the true Iago, his voice is for this role : this voice is very dark and metallic, i don't know if he can play another role because his voice is so dark. It,s not the better version of otello but i don't see him in rigoletto, don carlo etc.

@@e.g.8454 Ramey ?!!
