Juwel Bioflow 3.0 filter maintenance and review 

Thanks for this video. One thing I learnt from your video is that to make things simple so that one can enjoy the fish and plants more and not make unnecessary changing of equipment. Your tank setup is simple but your fish and plants are healthy and lively.

If you research the filter order you will find that Juwel have got them completely backwards (for their own reasons) to what they should be. It makes no sense whatsoever to have a fine filter first in line as it will become clogged very quickly and impair the filter efficiency. Coarse sponge filter first! followed by finer sponge and then the floss. Reserve the entire bottom caddy for Cirrax or your preferred biological media. I GUARANTEE you the filter will work better AND won't need cleaning half as much! This is a well know fact about this Juwel filter system, research it and Good Luck with your lovely Discus tank.

And I have big filter too but This topic confused me is it better to have bigger filter with lot of biological media in planted aquarium or smaller filter ? Good Morning my friend , your vedio is great and I really like how simple is your setup. I really like to have discus fish , but here in Europe they make it very difficult and they tell you to use ozmoze water and they tell you to have very highest quality water , they make me hesitate to buy discus fish. Please give me some advise about which water you use and how to make it good for discuss? Which kind of plants can i but and can I put artificial plants ? Because I do not like real plant..? I have 240 L aquarium with fluval FX 6 filter and I have Internal juwel filter also I have eheim filters so over filtration. Please help me please . Thank you very much Nasir

Try putting the finest sponge filter on the bottom underneath the larger sponges to see if it lasts better.

Hi, I have a lido 200, I have the compatible pump and heater but it doesn’t seem to fit well at all or line up for the pipe to attach on the outside. Did you have any issues with this at all, as I see yours seems to be sat in a white cradle and mine doesn’t have that

I have this filter they are set up back to front , the fine cotton pad should be on top of the carbon one and the coarse then medium mesh on top so top layer should be coarse then medium then cotton pad then carbon. The cotton pad should NEVER be the first layer asit will get blocked constantly this is what Juwel want so people have to keep buying it . The 3 coarse to medium ones in the bottom should be replaced with bio gravel imo , notice the big gap in the bottom layer? thats just wrong fill the whole thing up no gaps . As regards the cotton like pad buy it by the sq mtr much cheaper than buying the Juwel stuff thats a massive con just buy the material as a larger piece probs cost same price and you will have enough to last a few yrs lol .

do you have an opinian in Eheim biopower 200 infernal filter? What do you think is best? i don't know what to choose this Juwel aquariam or a Eheim Vivaline 126L...

Lovely tank you have and clearly your fish are very happy. I too am a fan of Juwel Aquariums. I manage to buy compatible replacement filter pads that are a lot cheaper than the genuine Juwel ones and do the same job. Is there a reason why you have the lower basket at right angles to the upper basket as it does mean that the water flow is much more restricted? Happy fish keeping.

I like the system, how many gallons is the tank and what's the flow rate for the filter? I would use a white sponge just before the ceramic media and the coarse at the beginning to catch the big stuff.

I didnt see the carbon filter from Juwel in this bioflow 3.0. Isn't it necessary? Did you use CO2 for plants to grow up or 2xT5 is enough? Whats the time set for the lights during 24 hours? Any algae problems?

Washing with tap water? does not that destroy the good bacteria in the sponge?

i have this filter but when i got it with my 180 litre tank i never got them plastic holders for the medium, can you buy them anywhere?

I cant seem to get my water clear and particle free in my two jewel aquarium. My 190L is particularly bad. I wash the upper layer every second week or so and replace 30-40% of the water. Any one else have this problem?

If there was an electrical issue, would the fish not be dead? And best way to clean filer pad is as u doing a water change, use this water! Not tap water!

I am just about to buy a Juwel Rio 240 led which has the same filter but will be setting up my filter different from you i would have the coarse sponge first then a medium sponge then the finest sponge last then mechanical filtration cartridges. Soon as I got my 190 juwel fish tank I took the filter out put it in the bin and bought an external filter juwel filters are rubbish it’s like putting a Renault engine in a rolls Royce!

Totally wrong set up....lol the bottom should be solely media, the top should be firstly coarse sponge them medium sponge then fine.do not put fine at the top.

I have a Juwel Lido 200. Today I found 4 dead neon tetras in the top of the filter. They can fit into the top inlets where the water gets sucked in. If I were you, I would count your neons. This is a terrible design for slim, streamline fish like neons or cardinals etc. I have put an extra sponge on top of the filter media to try to block fish from getting in, but I have no idea how to prevent fish from getting caught in the lower inlet grooves. I don't recommend this filter at all for these types of fish. Bigger fish will be fine. 1 out of 5 stars. *Thumbs down*

The filter system how it set up is a scam. inside it shoudt go from the bigger hole too middle to smallest. not start with the smallest.
