This year, well actually beginning of next year, I'm switching over to 100% rainwater as an experiment (before I did a 50/50 and 70/30 rain- and tap water ratio, which worked out perfectly >> tested it for several months with excellent results), filtered over filter wool, filter sand, zeolite and active charcoal for 24 hours with the help of a canister filter. And then remineralizing it of course, to reach the proper water parameters again. The reason behind this is because a) it's more cost effective and more environment friendly, specially with multiple larger tanks b) our tap water is by far suitable for aquatic life (Belgium here, and as you might or might not know our tap water is filled with crap unsuitable for aquatic life) c) you're always certain you'll be adding water that has the same parameters as the water in the tank (waterchanges), which means way less stress for the aquatic life. Nice aquascape! Well done!

I still use my fingers and reach with my arms. 50 years of growing plants that way and I'm not changing to tweezers.

Well, the tweezers do come in handy though, specially with small plants (carpets) or when plants need to be planted close to each other or in between tight gaps. I use both methods (depending on the aquascape), and both work out perfectly fine. ;) Cheers.

This looks amazing. Just a question. Do people take out the jewel filter because they think it’s ugly or they think it don’t work. I have a jewel internal filter in jewel rio 450 planted and love it, video on channel.It works great, and I don’t have to worry about external filter leaks. Anyways, nice tank....

They works great, best is that they surface skimmer, but they need help with outerfilter if you have lot of fish.

I just installed the exact same tank, but I kept the internal filter, instead I glued stones all over it and inserted moss in the cracks. Gonna make a video of it soon, looks awesome. And I think it looks a lot better than having all different sorts of tubes etc in the open.

Ja, die heb ik eruit gehaald. Nu een JBL 1502 met Sera 1000 co2 reactor ertussen. Meer capaciteit en sneller schoon te maken zonder gerommel in de bak.

Rio350 is good, but imho light is not enough for co2 plant aquarium, need second light unit and another set of flaps.Btw, can you show how you screw that wooden trunk and where ? :)

Hi, I will be ordering the same 350 litre LED aquarium in the next month. What tool did you use to remove the internal Juwel filter? I don't want to scratch the glass when removing mine. Thanks!

Yes, that was difficult. I couldn't reach the glue with a hobby knife.The filter was to close too the glass. I could not put force on the cutting. So I made a tool. This allowed me to pierce the glue. It is a tool from a bricklayer. See picture: home.kpn.nl/kokkie22/aqua/tool1.jpg Good luck!

@@kokkiezweeft I have a long flexible fillet knife that I will try first. I removed these before on a Rio 180 and it was easy enough because the tank was setup for 6 years and the silcone was softer. The new 350 will be alot harder I think as its coming from the factory. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Kokkie, could you give me the exact dimensions of the inside of the aquarium, the glass thickness and till what max hight goes the water column? Can't seem to find any of that on the Juwel website, only outer dims there.... thx!

Hi, glass outside 502x1201mm. Glass inside 481x1185mm Glass 8mm. Height is difficult because of the framework. Top furniture to top of the tank 659mm. Waterlevel 75mm below the top.

What are your feedback on aquarium bundled light? is it good enough for heavy planted tank?

Yes, it is good enough for normal plants. It is a bit tight for plants that really need a lot of light. Put these plants in the middle.

How many BPS are you running on this tank for the amount of plants that you have? Have you had any algae issues since setting it up? Also you are dosing daily? 145%? Easylife Profito 145% of daily doses , Easylife Ferro 40% of daily doses, Easylife Carbo 30% of daily doses

The co2 is controlled by the weipro controller. It is set at 130 bubbles per minute. The controller switches it off at PH 6.75. It is "on" during the day i think about 50% of the time.(~5,5kg co2/year) Only had algae for the first 2 months. Now it is controllable. (old leafs of the anubias) The fertilizers indeed go every day with the DP4 pump. The indicated values are the percentages of the recommended daily amount.

Hi kokkiezweeft , my 350 arrived yesterday. I am running a JBL 1902 filter. Question for you in relation to the lid on the tank. The gaps at the back are not big enough to allow the lid to sit level when you have the pipes and tubes from the filter installed. Does your lid sit level or is slightly up in the air when closed? Thanks.

Are you able to fully close the lid with the external filter pipework, I believe the rear slots are relatively small.

Hallo Kevin, voor de meeste planten zijn de standaard 2 ledbalken bij de hoogte van de Rio 350 voldoende. Ik heb zelf een extra lamp toegevoegd zodat ik met een controller een beetje kan sturen, een sunrise en een sunset kan doen en net iets meer licht heb. Yes, they are. Lights are on only for 9hrs. I changed the natural led for a colour led.

Hi William, they come from the hardware store. They are racks used for paint. The stones are on it. They prevent deep scratches on the bottom. And the stones stay in place now.

Yes, this is the juwel multilux Led light. It comes with a nature and day light. I chanced the nature with a color led for more red. Also to lower the light because it was to much. 2x 3300lumen is now 3300+2400lumen

Thank you so much your answer. I supposed that such a beautiful tank you have, needs much more lumen than 5700. I ordered a Juwel Trigon 350 LED, it hasn’t arrived yet, but I was planning to change lighting to something strong led. But according to your answer, it would be a waste of money, because the juwel led lights more than enough. I’m going to use micro and macro fertiliser, pressured co2 system with bottle, ADA Aqua soil Amazonia. I hope this set with juwel led will be enough to create an amazing planted tank like you have. @@ZoltandrBoda-ol3ev No, I don't need more light. The plants are doing fine and growing fast. But I don't have extremely difficult plants. Just give it a try before "upgrading" the light. if I changed it I would do that to be able to do a sunrise/sunset because that is not possible with these lights.

I glued (silicone) stainless steel corner brackets against the glass in different places to fix the wood and the outflow tube.

Rob, ik heb kleine rvs hoekjes met siliconenkit op het glas gekit net boven de waterlijn. Daar zit het hout aan geschroefd. Ook de in en uitlaat slangen zitten aan zo'n hoekje vastgemaakt zodat ze niet weg kunnen mocht er iets losschieten.

Hello WWE 4EVER, Yes that's right. But most plants grow fast. When I have to trim I take them out and then I plant them back shortened. At that moment I clean the gravel.

Hallo, De Juwel Rio wordt geleverd met een binnenfilter. Dit is een flink filter dat redelijk voldoet. Ik heb hem eruit gehaald omdat hij best veel ruimte in beslag neemt. Ik heb een buitenfilter gekocht die wat meer capaciteit heeft omdat ik een co2 reactor tussen de filter en de uitstroom heb zitten. Deze remt de doorstroom wat af. Ook als er langzaam in de slangen wat biofilm aankoekt wordt de doorstroom wat minder. De JBL 1502 is dan geen overbodige keuze.

@@themalwareguy62 Hi, gaat goed hoor. Bak is stabiel. Wel nieuwe sunrise/sunset verlichting toegevoegd waardoor ook overdag iets meer licht is. Nu nog een beetje aan spelen met de juiste hoeveelheid voedingsstoffen voor de planten. Bak heeft weinig alg.
