There is no gap between the top and corners of the tank, you have to remove the 2 red pieces from both sides of the light ramp. It is just there for transport purposes
It is a great tank. I don't find it too much work to be honest; a water change every week and a filter clean every few weeks mostly. We'll worth it for enjoying a great tank like this in my book. 👍
Awesome setup Daniel! I have a juwel Rio 125 and a juwel 260vision they are brilliant aquariums and the filters are absolutely brilliant and keep the water absolutely crystal clear
Dear Daniel: I’m very impressed with your patience in producing this video. I’m anxious to share my, next, tank set-up; but, the water is still cloudy and I’m probably about two months away from adding animals to the tank. You’ve done a super-terrific job of setting up this, fine aquarium. The cube-aquaria below look amazing, as well. Thank you for sharing the process with us. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
Thank you very much E.J. It is as you say difficult when you're excited to share a video but I generally have a few I'm working on at a time and I am very very busy because I am involved in so many things outside of the fish hobby that it's normally harder for me to find time to finish them off than be frustrated about having to wait to be honest. You could always put your video out on the stage it is at so far and an update later on rather than have to delay if it is annoying you hey. Kind regards bud.
Dear Daniel: I’m disappointed that I went with the Macintosh Mini with less memory than the more expensive one. Had I spent another $200 I could keep my videos longer. There may be a way to put a video on iCloud and upload it to RU-vid from there, but I don’t know the process. Thank you for your understanding and continued correspondence. All my best, Sincerely, Brinegar
@@DanielKeepingFish I have lido 200 and rio 180- both filters done what said on the tin but removed both cause absolutely massive- think hood sump or the narrow type that comes with the fluval edge would easier on the eye. But do filter well
I'm running a Rio 180 and really don't understand the comments about the filter being bad. The foams have a massive surface area (even bigger in this tank) and also plenty of space to add a box of nitrax media if you want more biological area. Pipes outside the tank are not for everyone! A few tricks I've learnt over the years, stack two of the top floss layers and just peel one off for a swift clean. The standard filter grids do not stop shrimp but you can get a cover. You can also temporarily put a small square of kitchen roll partially over the top inlet to make a strong skimming effect that works in a few minutes. Great tanks imo and the fish look happy!
Thanks Chris for the comments and the tips. I set it up with the sponges that came with it and as you say there was plenty of space for the bio-media I ripped out of the canister I had been using before I switched the tanks over. I've been running it for just over two weeks now. Early days but so far I can't fault it. I'm definitely going to tinker with the media placement so I'll probably look at your suggestion of the top floss as one of the options.
Thanks very much bud. Might find out more as I go for good and for bad but so far think this is a great tank with lots of thought gone into it's design. 👍
I'm interested in buying one of these as an upgrade for my ghost black knife and place who are fast outgrowing the 182litre tank. Thanks so much for a great intro to it. Your tank looks beautiful.
I've been following along and think this is a lovely newbie. It looks beautiful. Also I won't tell misses dkf about the strainer... But I am going to tell you that you stood on her lovely chair 😂😂😂 When you mentioned having to do the manual bucket filling I could totally relate. I filled my 4 ft tank up manually walking from one end to the other of my yard, carrying 12ltr buckets and then climbing onto a step ladder. I dont understand how I'm still fat lol. With all the workouts I do aka just..keeping fish. When you scaped it I actually really liked the point where you had 2 sand dunes on either side. Would have looked nice that way also. But I do like the rock scape. Great Job. Look forward to seeing more
Hahaha.. I already got caught for the chair but thanks for the solidarity on the strainer. 😂 And thanks for mentioning about following the story too by the way. Never really certain if the update videos are of any interest to anyone else so it's great to hear they may well have been. Take care and stay safe. 💙
@@DanielKeepingFish yes I watch and leave a like but don't always comment. Hopefully my stickers reach you soon and we can get another frame going 😃. Would love to see more on those nano tanks in the bottom. Thank you and you too ☺
I just got the Jewel Rio 240 and though I struggled a bit with putting the cabinet together (never done things like that before lol ), I hope i can figure out installing the rest. Thats why I was searching RU-vid for inspiretions. Strangely enogh, they are all made by men. Not that it matters, but I just wondered why that is. Me myself is a 63 year old woman, who always wanted a fish tank, but only just got this now. Anyway, thank you for your nice and inspiring video and best of luck with it. :)
Thanks very much Toni. Yeah can be difficult building the cabinet particularly if it's something you're not used to doing. Perhaps you may consider uploading a video of your thoughts and experiences of it to help others in the same situation? I understand not everyone is keen to do that, just a wee idea. Hope you enjoy your new tank and have many hours admiring it once you have it up and running.
Hahaha... what an idiot. Of course it is. Red packaging removed and lid is flush. Can't believe I didn't realise. I'll need to do an update video at some point and thank you properly.
Just bought a juwel Rio 180l second hand. Going from a starter 40l tank. Picking it up tomorrow, cant wait 😀 If the interest increases Even more, maybe a 450l will be of interest in the future 😊
Nice one Dennis! That's the way to do it for sure; dip your toe in a less expensive way and spend more money later if you're loving it. Plenty of ways to save money in the hobby before you're ready to drop more cash. Hope you enjoy your new tank.
Thank you. I've done this plenty over the years. These cubes and the Aqua One Arch were under the 6ft tank before I swapped them out. Another thing was a couple of wee shrimp tanks under a Trigon corner tank, other things like that. I just like being able to view several tanks at once much like the stand you guys have with several tanks on it but just working with what I have. 👍
Hi, Nice, I noticed that on this cabinet there's no metals support or something like that, is that ok? I mean can this cabinet hold all that weight safely? Another point is that, do you think that filter that comes with the aquarium is enough? Do you recommend for a beginner this aquarium? Thank you :)
Great looking tank Daniel! I'm thinking about the Fluval 240 litre. Eheim Vivalines are also great tanks. Can you add your plants to the dry setup, spraying them with water and then add water. It seems to me an easier way of planting?
I've never done the dry start method mate but yeah I've seen lots of people get good results with it especially when starting with plants that have never been submerged since they don't have to adjust till they're doing well and you fill the tank with water. I belive as well as straying them most people cover the tank with clingfilm or something so moisture is retained inside for the duration of the method. I couldn't have done it with this tank if I wanted to since I had nowhere to keep the bigger fish whilst doing it. I basically bought a big plastic garden bin and put them in there with an air bubbler and a heater whilst we exchanged the tanks over but wouldn't have been okay for more than a few hours.
Hi Daniel. I’ve just got the 240. It’s cycling at the moment. How did you find the filter? I changed the internal aspects of the filter after watch Filterpro. I’ve Added media and bacteria gel balls. etc. I’ve only three moors to add to mine (their quite big now, hence the tank upgrade) so I think I’ve well enough room for them. Is that enough room? Can I ask how long you cycled this prior to adding your fish please? Love the scaping! Beautiful fish. Thanks for your channel 😊
Thank you very much for your kind comments Julie. I'm still tinkering with the filter to see how I like it best. I don't think it's horrible as standard but I definitely feel like improvements can be made. I'm sure I'll make a video or two when I have some solid thoughts on it. I didn't cycle the filter as such. I took loads of media from an established filter in order to have it running right away. There was plenty of room for the sponges that came with it plus the large amount of bio media I moved from the other filter. I don't keep Goldfish but I would say that's plenty of room for three Moors. I would say the filter can handle that stocking too. I'd suggest testing the water conditions regularly with a test kit, that should let you know if there are issues at any point. Enjoy your 240. Hope your fish do too.
Any idea what the width if the stand is at the bottom of the unit where it sits on the flop and, NOT measured from the top where the tank sits (which is 151cm)?
you are supposed to remove the red little things on the sides of the top. then the fit gets very flush, of course its no problem if you dont remove them. Good video! (edit) the feeding hatch you talking about, when you buy a juwel automatic feeder, it actualy comes with a little hatch that fits in there. i
Haha yeah that was pretty dim of me, I addressed it is a follow up video. Thank you though. That's good to know about the Juwel feeder. Might need to snag me one of those.
Hi Daniel. How are you good Sir? Waow, the new beast looks amazing, I love it, the Aquascape is beautiful and those Angelfish look awesome in there. Your video has been given the #18th big 👍 up! Thankyou very much for sharing. #UltimateFishKeeping Stay safe and take care Sir. 😊👍❤️
Hi mate. I've just bought the 350 version. Made a mistake and plants I've ordered are coming a couple of days before the tank. Can you advise on how I should keep them alive? I've also got 9L of soil and 55kg of sand for the tank - does this seem the right amount?
Yeah you should be good with the sand and soil you got. For the plants it depends on how they arrive. If they're tissue cultures or come in air tight sealed packet like the Tropica plants, if they look healthy enough I'd just leave them sitting somewhere that gets a wee bit of light till the tank comes. They can survive in those packets for a decent amount of time on the in the shop etc so they're generally okay for a couple of days. If it's plants that are just bagged up what I would do is drop them in a large bucket with dechlorinated water and a wee tiny bit of liquid fertiliser if you have any. If you're leaving them in a warm room where they'll get a bit of natural light through the day they should be fine for a couple of days. That's how I'd go about it. Hope it helps. Enjoy your new tank when it comes.
Sorry Sabina I only just noticed this comment. Thank you very much. The cubes have nano fish in them and I have a small tank in the middle for a Betta.
Is it ok if the filter reaches the substrate? as I just bought one and seems the filter is nearly down to the glass itself, so the bottom of it would be in the substrate
Funnily enough I was looking at a nice sump tank designed obviously for marine but no reason it couldn't be used for fresh. Came down to I'm trying to move away from anything that moves water out of the aquarium and has any potential for leaks, mishaps and general frustrations.
It really is a treat. All these years in fish keeping it's the first time I've been in the position to get a new tank of this size so your comment is very warmly recieved and hopefully you'll be in the spot where you can do the same at some point. 👍
The juwel rio is a really nice tank, but the filter is pretty bad if you use it the way it's delivered. The inner layout is awful and there's almost no space for biomedia. Pondguru has a pretty good video on upgrading these juwel filters.
Do you use them smaller cube tanks as a hospital and 1 for baby fish? Ive just ordered this tank and cant wait to set her up.. marine with clown fish and coral life
I can't remember which cubes I had underneath for this video. I had 30cm caves and updated to 40cm cubes and they've been different things at different stages. Hospital, quarantine, etc but also show tank. Currently the one on the left had my Betta in with some tank mates and the one on the right has my Whiteclouds.
Really sorry for the beginner question but I’ve just bought the Rio 180 as my first ever tank and I was wondering what the cube tanks in the cabinet do?
Oh hey no worries. We're all here to help each other enjoy the hobby hey. So the tanks underneath are not part of the system. They're extra aquariums I added to keep different fish in. I reinforced the underside of the base where those tank are just to be sure. Hope you enjoy your new Rio and be concerbed about asking questions. I'll always help with sn answer if I'm able and there's loads of other fish keepers here who I'm sure would do the same.
Hahaha.. so you're watching every video you can about it to fuel your excitement. I did that too. Enjoy your new tank. You'll love it, it's a great aquarium.
@@DanielKeepingFish that's exactly what I was doing! Although I'd already subscribed to your channel. I was planning on getting rid of some of my cubes but now thinking keep them under the tank. Love that idea. Might leave the doors off tho
@@rowlandfamily1050 yeah I'd maybe have left the doors off were it not for the human fry cutting about. I don't know if you noticed but I raised the cubes up on black bricks then a piece of board to even the surface before placing the foam mats then the tanks. If they are too low it can be awkward to view them or work on them. I have placed some support under the cabinet base since I've got those tanks in there. If I upgrade to 40cm cubes I'm going to make sure I do an adequate job of that and maybe even contact the manufacturer to get their thoughts on it. Better to be safe than sorry hey. Once again enjoy your new tank, I have no doubt you will.
Hey there. How are the cubes going? I'm still tempted to try them in the cabinet. Also I've gone full circle on the filter, pulled the internal out and had an fx6... Hated it and put the internal back in and love it. I've dimmed the light down low so you can barely see it so really happy with it overall.
Hello what do you think about the cabinet is it good quality and does it get ruined if you spill water on it? Do the doors mach and close nicely? Please let me know because i want to buy this cabinet but I'm not sure if it will last long and have good quality materials. Thank you😉
I think the cabinet is great. Still rock solid since when I bought it. The doors close fine. The spring clips stop the doors slamming and pop the doors open again by pressing them. I don't have any water damage and I have three nano tanks in the bottom but I am quite quick to dry up any spills. I can't tell you it's the best cabinet ever but it's the best I've had and I'm very happy with it. Hope it helps.
@@DanielKeepingFish Hello my friend, i need to ask you one more question: What is the exact size in cm of each compartment inside the cabinet? Please let me know. Thank you so much. Have a great week end !🌞☺👍🏻
Nice tank but it's definitely not what they're asking for it. I was going to get one but that cabinet does not look very safe. Happy fish keeping ✌️🏴
Pretty heavy mate. Gonna need at least two reasonably strong people to help you possibly two. It was delivered by courier so even if they help you into the house with it you'll still need someone to help you get it in position once you've built the cabinet.
Yes if they are normally capable of lifting items with a fair bit of weight in them. Myself and the delivery driver brought it into my house then my friend and I lifted it onto the base once we built it. The base came flat-packed.
I mean it's pretty quiet. You do get a slight hum if you get up close to it but no filter is going to be silent especially one this size but it does a good job of making it as quiet as possible. I'll do an update video on this tank soon. If I remember I'll get the decibel meter out and demonstrate how quiet it really is.
@@DanielKeepingFish thanks for the info . Was thinking of just getting an external to put in it . Its going quite close to a bed so wasnt sure if the noise would be a problem thanks
Also remove the tanks in the stand, its only designed to take the weight of the tank on top. Condensation from small tanks will cause top panel to warp and break.
I'm not too worried about this one. The lids on the tanks are pretty tight fitting so there is very little condensation. Add to that the back of these sections are open so there's loads of air flow and opportunity for any moisture to escape and I think I'm good. I've also placed support under the base so I'm not too worried about the extra weight of the tanks but I will keep a good eye on both of these issues and react if needed. Thanks very much for your recommendations.
Hi there, I'm thinking of getting this tank, but, I have 5 cats who would love to lounge on that lid.. would the lid hold the weight of a couple of fat cats? I don't want a disaster in my hands!
Yeah for sure! I'd say all five cats could snuggle on the lid and it would hold the weight of them. Something you need to be mindful of is leaving the doors open. My cats jump up onto the doors when they are ajar and scratch at the glass trying to catch the fish haha..
@@DanielKeepingFish that's great news! It's so hard to know just by looking at them online. Maybe all aquariums need to come with a cat proof rating! Thank you so much, I will now take the plunge into this new hobby.
@@AbsoluteShambles734 for sure. To be fair I couldn't be sure just in my mind so I went and gave the lid a firm press all over before answering so I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. If I can be of any further assistance please be sure to ask. If I am able to help anyone enjoy the hobby I surely will.
Hello, i want to buy this aquarium fir my turtle can u say how much is the gao between middle bar and aquarium glass in cm cuz i need to put an above tank basking spot for her and idk if i can
@@Mitas434 so the 450 that I have has two cross braces at equal intervals. The tank is 50cm front to back. The gaps between the braces are 45cm each. Hope that helps.
Thank very much. I do have a hose but I also use it as a siphon for emptying something that contains chlorine so I wasn't wanting to use it for this. I did use Seachem safe of course but I still wasn't comfortable using the hose.
You do know then red clips on the lid come off there are only there for traveling purposes so it don't break the glass there not part of the aquarium lol 😂 so after you take them red clips off there's no gap
I wouldn't say better. Both are elegant very nice tanks. The Jewel is 450 litres compared to the 400 Oase. Plus I wanted the three cupboard spaces underneath, the Oase's is divided into two. Other than that it's down to what which of the two you prefer design wise really but like I said both are very nice aquariums.
I'll see how it goes. I'm done with canisters so I'll work with this for now. I'll make some adaptions over time and if I feel I need to I'll remove it and say you were right from the off. 😉
I've got the same tank (albeit a smaller version and in black). They are excellent and look great. I found the filter media a pain to clean as well. Switched back to my 206 and used a razor blade, 2 minute job 🙂.
@@andreashessler838 I stuck the media that came with it plus the bio media from the old tank in it and will see how it goes but totally open to ideas and recommendations to ensure performance is optimal. 👍
@@andreashessler838 have removed the filter and repositioned mine, just found cutting the two outside ones allows enough movement to yank it away without breaking anything.
No it's a build in system although people do remove them. I know that for sure because I have a spare one in my cupboard that someone donated to me after removing it from their tank. I'm not sure how they did it but looks like it's just held in with four spots of silicone on the right side panel of the aquarium. Perhaps you can find a video on RU-vid or advice online on how to do it. Not sure it's worth it before you give the filter a go though. I find it works really well and doesn't look out of place.
@@DanielKeepingFish I have a canister it’s been in for 2 weeks so it’s time to take it out, but there’s 4 on one side in the front of the tank and 4 on the side of the tank so I can’t pull it out like a normal filter I dunno if mines different it’s the RIO240 duo or something like that but the gaps between the glass and the filter are so thin I can’t get a bank card or anything down there to pop the suction cups, btw sorrry for swearing in the original comment
@@GKZ_29 haha no worries. I was using an Oase Biomaster Thermo that I loved. I was half expecting not to like the Juwel filter and go back to the canister but I love it. Plus now I'm not living with the worry of an unexpected leak emptying a big tank of water all over the floor. Feel kinda guilty the Oase is sitting in my fish cupboard but like I said I'm pretty happy with the Juwel and there's none of the drawbacks of canisters. Maintenance is pretty easy too.
@@GKZ_29 hi there, go to the pound shop and buy a pack of razors - take the full blade out the plastic casing - gives about 10cm and thin enough to fit between thefilter n glass- use a sawing motion as break if try to slice. Worked for me. No idea why they stick them on instead of using suction cups, would be nice to choose to use or be able to reposition.
I get you and don't blame you at all. I try to only add non-intrusive and skippable ads but it does enable me to spent a little more on the hobby and make more videos by including them though but totally appreciate how you feel.
