JV 1080 WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS.. 

I believe deep in my soul that if you have a TX81Z & a JV1080 you will never need another synth mod for the rest of your life.

I've got 2 of them full of the jv80 cards. Such an amazing tool to have at your disposal. Its honestly like having a full orchestra. Love it. Great series. Keep them coming.

I remember being in highschool reading Keyboard Magazine and Teddy Riley talking about the JV 1080 and how much he loved using it. Ever since I called this thing the Teddy Riley Machine. Always wanted one but I remember them being hella expensive. They had the JV1010 for the poor man and I remember I finally saw it in person when I went to college and a friend had one. My first time getting a chance to get as close as I could to the "Teddy Riley" sound.

I said it before, and I'll say it again...the JV-1080 was THEE sound of 90s/00s Hip Hop and R&B...PERIOD!!!!!!

I still use the JV-1080 as the VST plug-in, and nothing else has the same quality. It is incredible, and I'm using mostly pianos and electric pianos for now. There's a trap producer in Atlanta who still uses the rack version because the sounds are solid. Every other instrument VST I've bought does not compare. In 2023 it is still relevant (like the Korg Triton and others), and I'll still be using it in 2024 🙏🩵 Thank you Roland, and this is a good video! Thank you for the upload, God bless you man 🙏

If you make beats on the computer, I'd encourage some sort of outboard sound module, especially a JV/XV or Proteus 2000 type module, something 16-part multitimbral because it takes the weight off your computer and allows you to sequence via midi without your machine getting bogged down in the process. Once you got everything sequenced, track it in and mix it down, but with the aforementioned modules, half the work is done because the sounds already sound good going in. Level, eq, compress and you're golden!

My dad has the JV880. I want the Roland Integra 7 because you get every sound Roland ever made.

This was it and the sounds were so amazing Roland expanded it into the XV line. The lineup of patches is still in the Integra along with some of the D50 line. This technology was amazing for the time. I worked at a music store and purchased one in the late 90's. Sold it for and XV 2020 and GI-20. Wish I still had it. Thanks again for the trip back in time. You're the MAN!

The MC707 has a lot of sounds that come from this rack, so for the guys who need this kind of Roland bread and butter presets, you can think about byuing a MC. This is what I have done last year and i don't regret it.

I had the Roland JV2080 fully loaded. The big lcd screen has me sold. A lot of bread and buttery sounds for Hip Hop & R&B.

I always wanted one since it first came out. Just copped one for $220 a couple weeks ago. Sounds Amazing!

I bought a JV1010 (the miniature version of the JV1080/2080) for piano sounds long time back, it was small and cheap... I was blown away by the sounds. Amazing presets and synth possibilities! Still relevant if you program your stuff.

What had happened was….. I spent hours researching the JV1080 after watching this video, and ended up picking one up on reverb.

These things are great for realistic instrument sounds. Especially strings, brass, and woodwinds. The units and cards are going up in price, but the orchestra, world and keyboard roms are worth it if you want to add great hardware presets to your set up.

Roland took that 1080 sound engine to the next level with the XP workstations! You can save a lot of money these days on getting that 1080 sound because of RolandCloud. Even their core membership at just $30 a year will give you access to it. Only downside is Rolands VST’s tend to use way more CPU than they should.

Sold mine back in the day... ...but bought one back last year. Never selling it again. :)

it has a really nice sound, very warm and rich. agreed that if you want 90s tones this delivers in spades, it was seemingly used everywhere, and the later synths in the series like the xv5080 still use the same synthesis method and feature all the original waves and even patches. it's also very good for generating ambience and SFX thanks to the onboard multifx and flexibility of the envelopes and LFOs.

Definitely, a major piece in the sound module game. When I started building my home studio, these were high on the list. Yet, limited funds kept me from acquiring one. I found myself at pawn shops, where I found a D-110. Doing further research later, I was led to the sound of E-MU modules. And “l ain’t been right every since”… 😂🤣😂 After all these years, my luv for Roland is still very strong. As the MV-8000 is the brains of my “midi-life” setup. I have plans on getting the Integra-7 to finalize the Roland module phase. (As mentioned), Having the outboard gear to compliment your DAWs is Awesome. Giving endless inspiration to your productions. roland did the dm-800 as a follow-up to the dm-80 which had a wave view and an external monitor option. they were apparently popular for editing radio spots.

I have a Roland JV-1080 and a bunch of the SRJV expansion boards as well as 3 PCM1 cards. I might also get either a JV-2080 or XV-5080 so I don't have to keep swapping out the plugin boards. There is still room for both sound modules and VST instruments.

I've got a XV3080 and it's just insane, one could easily score whole movies with just it.

I still use mine to this day (Deontay. Wilder voice) along with the 3080 and 5080 but it you want all the JV series then ya gotta get the Roland integra 7

I had one and the sound was good, very much the Roland sound, the downsides were programming them on that tiny scene, and you'd need more than one of you needed a lot of polyphony.

FWIW, the JD-990 was the (upgraded) rack version of the JD-800 keyboard synth. It’s not directly related to the JV series.

The JV-1080 and JV-2080 pretty much ruled 90s R&B. Nearly every R&B hit record had JV sounds all over it esp the Harp patch on Brandy and Monica The Boy is Mine to Sisqo You are Everything Remix fr Ja Rule to Toni Braxton and many more. I own the Roland Integra-7 which is basically a modern XV5080 module that has all the JV-1080 and JV-2080 sounds.

The 90s Music Resurrection is going to happen soon. All these devices are going to become rare as anything, that only a few years ago you could get for next to nothing. Like how people were giving away the analog gear in the 80s and 90s to get the best Digital stuff, and you could find a Jupiter 8 for like 200 bucks because they were out of style. And suddenly around 2010 all that analog gear became popular again and the digital fell out of style. So too will the same happen to the out of style sounds of the 90s digital gear. They'll become incredibly popular, all it will take is one or two artists to drop a legendary album that puts all that stuff back on the map and the whole game will flip around. And the best way to create that sound that only a few years ago would make you cringe, would be the physical hardware. VSTs are cool, but they are just not the same as the real thing. Also I'm not paying subs to Roland Cloud. 1 year of that and I might as well buy the real thing. nothing beats physical gear you can just plug in and play and perform with.

The JD-990 is far more coveted than the JV1080. The JV1080 can be picked up for peanuts today....not so much the JD-990 or JD800.

I made a lotta custom presets with that 108, you could do so much with it and make sounds nobody else had. which was big if you did hip hop

F&^^ a 1080. If you got one, you will want to replace that bs with a 2080. Since a 2080 holds 8 expansion cards out of over 20. Plus it has a larger display. This video shouldve focused on that s&*&&. I used to stack 3 2080s.

Last Year i had 8x JV-2080s with all Expansions. I sold them all but i still have an 1080 with the two Orchestral, Vintage Synth and the Piano Collection Card in it. Still a grat sounding piece of Syth till today.
