I was half expecting to see the Back to the Future camcorder on your channel at some point the moment you started going down the camcorder rabbit hole! 😂 Love how you shot the video on VHS and did a good job, too - the lighting was so hard to get right with those things! Your knowledge of electronics always teaches me something, Maddi. Thanks 🙂

I have no interest in camcorders but the passion you display in your videos makes me fascinated. I particularly love that old technology you previously displayed with the light-flare after image type thingy. I love how you shot this with the shallow DOF, green tea and the marble slab on the wooden table, very aesthetically pleasing. I miss seeing those old Arabic tiles and glass ornaments of your old videos, I hope that they made the trip to your new home okay. Great video project as always (and thank you for showing your mistakes! so many people edit that stuff out, but I think it's a valuable learning tool). Look forward to your next project 👍👍

Ah yes the CRT based camera, normally it's not something i'd create videos on, I sort of didn't expect to create content on camcorders but things just flowed from using the Amiga Genlock into camcorders territory, I do wonder what I flow into next as I do it all "off the cuff" as they say, mistakes and all. Once my project room is fully set up (just waiting on the workbench to be constructed) Then those Arabic tiles will be making their way over here for sure, I must admit I'm missing them myself. Thank you!

Great video, and rather interesting about pinouts and colour codings ....... I've also experienced AV cables with different or non-standard colour coding. Definitely worth testing.

It's amazing the image quality you can get from even an old camcorder, its the recording to VHS that reduces the resolution. Thank you Thomaniac 🙂

Interesting project. Tinkering with a camera back from the future :D It's just cats being cats, doing cat things. Live view from the composite output is a nice and useful feature should you use that camera and an analog video capture card for recording/streaming. Nice Weller station BTW. Good stuff!

Some camcorders do have A/V in like the Sony's, Though the same connectors used for both inputs and outputs, depends on the camcorder mode, In VCR mode they are inputs, In camera and playback modes they are outputs.

I love that vintage video gear, I am seriously thinking of adding that to my streams and videos in the future. Hmmmm, maybe you should do a video of which the start is recorded with modern digital camera(s), and then you jump back in time, where we see you 30 years in the past! And if you doubt if you're wardrobe and makeup add to the illusion (I think it will be awesome already), maybe an age filter or so might make it perfect :)

For scenarios like this, you can use a capacitor in-series with each wire your testing, as it will safely pass the signal through, whilst blocking any DC component from reaching the monitor.

Rich’s Sony Hi8 puts out an amazing picture and l had just the normal 8 handycam way back when but l wish it could have looked that good lol 😂 Another awesome upload Maddi ☺️👌🏼

Hey Jason 🙂 You know it probably was that good if you had fed it directly into a PVM/BVM monitor, even a normal Consumer grade CRT. It's the recording to VHS that reduces the resolution and degrades it. Thank you Jason, i'm glad you enjoyed 🙂

Is there anything you can do to make a new/modern battery for these old camcorders? I did buy a really old 80s one a few years ago, came with a rechargeable battery, but its long dead.

Use NiMH AAs for a drop in replacement. Note that you'll probably need to use a universal NiMH charger instead of the original NiCd charger.
