i think i saw that on ebay when it was for sale, i'm sure it sold for a silly amount of money (£800?), when i looked at the pictures of it i thought "that thing is Done, Put a Fork in it lol" i repaired one about 15 years ago, i liked the way it came apart where the whole chassis came out in one chunk, as for the worn paint, that is typical, but you can get the paint code for it, there was a guy selling those tuner trims a few years ago, he did them perfect. i can't remember his real name but he was a member of a boombox forum, his username was Bredgeo, he was living in Ireland but he Moved back to France.

Thanks for the info. They certainly aren't cheap now, but I reckon it will be worth saving. A medium term project for early 2024 I reckon.

Great video looking forward to part 3,I actually purchased this boombox back in the day in NYC times Square I was 20 years old, still have it mint condition in the box with manual, and Styrofoam, I saw your other video changing the belts and I'm gonna attempt to change them on my unit because the tape runs slow and stops and kinds cringes up, Another restorer on ebay said the downfall to this unit is that once you Power it on the belts are constantly working, I'll be checking out the other videos you posted. Good luck hope you get that M90 going, there going up in value in a hurry

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Yours will be worth a fortune now! As long as you take your time and are systematic, the belt change is not too bad. I took a risk on my 'nice' one, as it was tidy but the tape was running slowly. Fortunately the belts sorted it straight out. If yours is crinkling the tape, it's almost certainly the take-up reel not picking up the slack, so the belts should sort that. Also, make sure your punch roller and capstan are nice and clean, as the tape can 'cling' otherwise and not help the take-up situation. Stay tuned and thanks again - I appreciate your support 👍📻

Ive recently bought one of these off ebay and its fine other then the mw wave band isnt working but the fm does. Not sure if its worth me getting the mw band fixed as i usually only listen to fm .

Congratulations on getting a super-cool boombox! The MW might be worth a look - especially as FM won't be around much longer... Might be something as simple as a dirty switch or something? Thanks for watching - I've made a belt change video if you ever need to do yours.👍

@@retro_restos is that likely to be a simple fix?
@retro_restos

@@DjCastOne1 you never really know until you open them up. It's usually lack of use, causing light internal corrosion on the selector switches. Worth a try cleaning those before diagnosing the radio board. The AM side is usually reliable on these units.

hello! wondering when your next part is coming out for repairing this deck? i have one that has the same issue, solenoid is not making the audible clunk once the power button is pressed. i replaced a few fusible resistors but that did nothing, wondering if the IC is dead, none of the button function for the cassette deck. i can get it to play a cassette if i manually engage the solenoid but that’s all, buttons won’t do anything.

Hi, I'm hoping to do an update soon - this got put back a bit but needs progressing, as it would be good to get one running, and they take up a lot of room! It might be worth getting a schematic to run through the IC pin voltages. They aren't known for failing though, so it might be a transistor issue or dodgy cap. Or bad leaf switch. If you can get yours running manually, at least the running gear is present and correct, which is a good start.

thanks for your response! i didn’t mean to sound rushing for your video, i know you’ve got a lot to work on and love all the videos! i’m hoping it’s just the transistor that controls the solenoid that needs replacing, i believe it is labeled q711, unfortunately idk what the values are for that transistor as it’s not in the supplementary service manual. i’ll have to do some more digging! part of me just wants to do a complete overhaul of the transport board, i replaced a couple capacitors on it that looked dodgy but there’s obviously more wrong!

@@introvertedotaku2135 No worries! Sometimes it's nice to re-do a whole board. I recently re-capped a Hitachi TRK-8080. I think there were 72 electrolytics to change. As for your transistor, they're easy to check for failure (they generally work or they don't, and rare to be a weird value in the middle). Worth just checking first. You'll generally get a more accurate result if you remove it first - and then you'll see the code number etched or printed on the face. Use that to order up a replacement 👍

@@retro_restos i’ll definitely check out that transistor! hopefully it has number etched on it in case it’s failed. i did test the solenoid with a 9v battery and it does in fact engage so that is a relief. making progress!
