Testing Horizon 5 to find the lowest motion blur setting with 120Hz gaming on the JVC RS2100. (NZ7)
With 60Hz it doesn’t really matter what e-shift you choose. With 120Hz, low latency mode, standard e-shift is blurry and highres1 e-shift is blurry, but highres2 e-shift is clearly the cleanest and more comparable to e-shift off.
This is a response to some recommendations from my first video here, where I was noting that 8K e-shift was a blur box setting at 120Hz.

Jonathan, Have you installed the new firmware update on the nz7. I think it's 1.44 to 1.66... I watch movies with the hdr levels at +1. It gave my projector a nice pop. At Auto it was just so plain or flat looking. I haven't installed update yet but I heard it makes the projector look even brighter and they introduced film maker mode and dynamic dimming.. Nick

I have. And I like the new modes. I default to filmmaker after the Nov. firmware update. Interestingly on the NZ7, Filmmaker turns off the eshift X - which helps improve motion clarity. You might like the new mode 3 laser dimming too.

@@jvonengeln If I can improve the black levels while also increasing the the hdr bringing more brightness. It might really look even better. I love my HDR frame by frame adaption etc

I may have missed it... I saw you turned e-shift off when testing the game at 60Hz... but did you try turning it completely off when running the game at 120Hz? I ask because in theory e-shift should NOT be turned on (or even allowed to be turned on by the projector) with 120Hz input... because the e-shift mechanism itself runs at 120Hz on the NZ7 and during that cycle it needs to hit the screen twice as a 2-way e-shift, meaning 60Hz input signal is the highest possible in order to get two "passes" on the screen before the next frame. Try turning e-shift off when running 120Hz input and that should be the "best". I also wonder if selecting HiRes2 with e-shift on while accepting 120Hz input might do something similar... actually end up disabling e-shift in some way and letting the 120Hz signal just "pass through" to the screen.

I tested 120Hz and eshift off in the first video linked below. It’s still a little blurry (and worse than the Epson LS12000). I’m trying to make a video to compare all aspects of the Epson vs JVC. Nice vid, Jon. I thought you got rid of this because of the PWM laser flicker was bothering you. Maybe that was another projector? Have you considered running a separate projector dedicated to gaming? LCD and LCOS have horrible motion resolution, hence all the motion modes on these projectors. A DLP will have much more stable/clear motion but of course, the overall image quality will suffer. Hope you and the fam are doing well.

Hi Scott. I still intend to sell it. Just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. I’m in the process of comparing back and forth with the Epson 12000. Yes it still bothers my eyes with the PWM, so I don’t use it too much.
