This hotel is 20 years old, not 100 years old. Exterior built to look like the Biltmores and grand hotels from the 1910-20s... Beautiful hotel, great for a staycation...

Our Marriott account was Titanium Elite at the time, and we just asked at check in if any where available! Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador are eligible for free upgrade to suites if available.
@@gogotravelwithjosh We have the Titanium membership with 7 free upgrades a year, but so far, whenever we ask for an upgrade, there isn't any available. 😔
Make sure to put your request at least 5 days out for the suite night awards. 5 days out is when Marriott checks and if it’s available it’s confirmed 5 days before your stay. They will also keep checking 4 days, 3 days… till the day before you arrive. I’ve had great success with them.
I stayed here in 2021, right before they were set to renovate. In a king suite, and it was in desperate need of refurbishment. Guessing the pandemic delayed that. Room rate was about half the price it would be now due to lack of travel. Refurbishment looks great, although that new couch looks to already have some wear and tear (cushions). I also don't like the big spaces they leave. For example, the sofa near the bed - that wall to the left of the sofa could use a small end table. I always feel like JWs cheat a bit. Also, had a similar bathroom, but I think the floor was either granite or marble. They eliminated the double sinks, which is always a luxurious touch IMO. The bathroom floor looks like a tile, but maybe it is a type of stone? I can't tell. I know all the rage is types of stone and quartz lately.
You should definitely consider staying again, the renovations do look great, but I know what you mean by JW Marriotts cheating a bit. I do find many of them that don’t have as much furniture or room features as luxury properties should have. Many of them feel only premium not luxury and especially with service. The service at many especially the ones in the U.S. can use some help. As for the flooring in the bathroom I’m not exactly sure what they use.
