@@derekjwilliams007 the cool raps is more lupes style tho laid back flows with witty and deep bars is what he does it's like DOOM and his calm flow it's all great but with Kendrick it's less predictable and more effective because he uses so many styles and flows.
Lupe is the best ever to touch a mic besides MFDOOM. Only other emcees that are close to his level lyrically is Black Thought, Elzhi, maybe Aesop Rock.

Lupe is a better lyricist on every level. Kendrick makes easier accessible music. He's not gonna make you spend a few years deciphering a bar. I'm still finding layers of rhyming and meaning in Drogas Wave
I'm a fan of both, but putting Kdot vs Lupe..... Kdot wins, he still places a message in his music and makes it more enjoyable them Lupe. Lupe is the cause of his own decline.

This is what birthed many emcees , the intelligent word play and witty twists . Kool Keith, MF DOOM, Aesop Rock , Sean Price are proof of dedication n full investment in the art .
I love Kendrick for real I could probably rap almost all his albums but... There's really nobody I think on Lupe's level, when you break it down to metaphors and allegories and actually writing, nobody is on that level. Closest alive in terms of just rapping ability would be King Los, Black Thought, and Eminem. Dead would be MF Doom

Someone once said the difference between poem and prose is that prose is words in the right order, poem is the right words in the right order. With that said if one views rap as "rhythm & poetry" then Lu and many other conscious rappers are far ahead on another planet. That's what made Pac great, because he had SOMETHING to say even without that level is skill he still found the right words.
They are debating a person who has never heard majority of Lupe's work. If we keeping it funky people may not like this but "The Cool" combined with Fahrenheit 1/15 wipes out his entire argument. I've been a fan of Kendrick since before Section 80. While he is great Lupe is in the argument for the greatest of all time from the greats. Nas and Jay view him that way.
I don't need to hear the majority of your catalog to know if I like you as an artist or not. As a fan of hip hop I give every credible MC a serious listen, so I know what Lupe is as an MC. I've listened to multiple Lupe albums, could I name them, probably not because I never listened again

For instance you might like T.I. music more than Ludacris but you'd be smoking pixie dust if you were to say T.I. is the better lyricists.

Definitely have to view this from perspective when you make this argument. Both artists had big co-signs Kendrick with Dre and Lupe with Jay-Z. So I personally felt the optics were equal in that regard. I think ultimately Kendrick gets the attention because he is just a better song maker and that is just my opinion. Lupe lyrically is on another level and much of his catalog proves this but Kendrick songs have made more of an impact. When it comes to sonics. I definitely feel like there are more theatrics on Kendricks part which plays into the likability his delivery is crazy in my opinion. Lupe got bars no doubt but I just feel musically Kendrick is just better.
I think the difference between TDE and Atlantic is Kendrick got to do what he wanted but Lupe got stifled by his label and made him put out his third album how the label wanted and from then on just kept making it such a pain to do anything artistically. Now that he's off he's been so much better but he's grown so much his lyrical content is harder to get on a first listen which is why I think DMIZ is getting more praise since it's more accessible like his first two albums. Nonetheless both artists are incredible and unique in their own right.

Kendrick is more popular because Lupe was unlucky. It's not about song writing or making "better music", idk if any kendrick song will ever have the longevity that a "Superstar" has, but it all comes down to luck. Kendrick had TDE and real support, Lupe had Atlantic records that went out of its way to fuck up his career. Lupe was coming off back to back classics in F&L and The cool, until Atlantic forced him to put out his worst project after holding it hostage for a year. Lupe was hitting his peak, both in his popularity and his actual artistic output, and he got a wrench thrown right in the works by one of the worst record labels in hip-hop. Lupe was going to and speaking at occupy wallstreet protests, how many artists today are doing that right in the prime of their careers? How many in 2022 are actually willing to leverage their entire career to call obama a terrorist (which he was, as was every president) on live television? Those things got him blackballed from the industry, and he's been very open about it. Lets stop the stupid narrative that the only reason their careers played out this way is "artistic merit" or a function of the quality of the work they put out.
Lupe will body Kendrick. I'm a fan of both but for me no one in the game is on lupes level in terms of flow and intelligence. Only thing against lupe is he too smart/deep for the mainstream audience and therefore he will never get the recognition. U can feel what kendrick saying even if he going deep. My only problem with Kendrick is that the dude be lacking barz. Lu has more barz on Mural than Kendrick has one his whole discography. If Kenny had more barz the conversation would be around a concept being relatable vs it being deep or how well the flows and rhymes are constructed etc.
If you look at it like words on paper then lupe is definitely better, if you include flow, cadence and delivery Kendrick wins easily. Lupe uses more metaphors and wordplay while Kendrick relies more on flows and cadences.
Lupe's like a lot of great lyricists, he's undeniably great but has no quality control. One second he is blowing your mind with his genius, the next he is saying some of the corniest stuff you've ever heard over one of the worst beats you've ever heard. Great ability, but lacks taste. Kendrick doesn't often hit the same highs lyrically (though he does sometimes), but he's got the good sense to turn his lyrics into great songs and great pieces of art. Lupe can't touch him on that.
I am a Lupe fan and I don't like Kendrick music. Its not the lyrics its just his style isn't something I wanna hear. I can give him his due and say lyrically he a great. But personal style wise I don't wanna hear Ken music

Lupe is undoubtedly better. Mixtape lupe is the greatest rapper of all time. Kendricks TPAB is a classic in my Opinion but objectively Lupe will off with his head lyrically and conceptually
You should be able to tell from listening but yh Lupe's pen game is better but Kendrick got delivery and flows for me plus the "cool" raps gets kinda boring after a while for me Kendrick got hella variety u never know what's coming next

Lupe probably the best lyricist ever but a mediocre artist. I never understood how being the most lyrical make you the best. That’s like saying Vince Carter is the best basketball player because he dunked the best or Steph Curry because he shoots the best.
Every project Kendrick puts out is a instant classic. Lupe is more lyrical miracle turn your soul physical have it shaking in interviews for better views kinda guy. Kendrick is a better artist than lupe for sure but Lupe is a better lyricist. Plus they both rival each other on both sides if not greater than the other. Just my opinion.
