the blunted tip is great for making concave holes for fire starting with a bow and stick... if i need POINTY, i have other tools for that. remember, Nessmuk had a system... 3 tools. also he has Tuberculosis apparently, weighed like 99 lbs, and was "weight conscious" - the original ultralight camper :)
I could watch the 2 of you discussing knives for hours. Please, David...start a new series where you get to interview these absolute legends of the craft about their stories, what they've learned about knife making and the industry, and their own favorite knives. Just 4 or 5 a year would be amazing and would provide insights into this hobby that many of us crave without the hype and clickbait.
YESSSS! I just made a very similar comment as I too could watch these two shoot the sh*t for hours honestly! I think it'd make for some great vids, really
Glad you two mentioned the BK18/19 sheath... "if you're gonna buy a knife for the sheath..." As a new owner of a BK19, and being new to Becker (but not the good, old KA-BAR USMC), I now also want a BK16, but I don't want the sheath for that knife [Edit: since the 19's sheath! has gone and spoiled me). If I get a 16, then I gotta pony up for the micarta handles THEN one of the many nicely-done kitchen-table Kydex sheaths for it. In other news... How fortunate! we all are to be able to hear and see our man Mr. Becker! talk about his "children". This is great stuff. Thanks.
"What's his face?" LOLOLOL I love it! I did not give him all THAT much grief about it... I just said the BK17 was better option for me because I like black walnuts and the 17 had the pointier tip.😁
Kabar has also just came out with the Becker BK72 which is a BK2 with S35VN Steel , Micarta Scales and a Kydex Sheath , it cost about $250 and you can only get it at Knife and Tool in the Netherlands....👍🖖
Well if it's anything like the BK 18 it should also eventually come in black, too. I really hope it does as well, but I'm getting that BK 19 ASAP! That blade shape really, really appeals to me 😎
They come in black as a SMKW exclusive. Same for the BK18 harpoon. Picked up this BK19 for around $70 on sale last time I was in the store, and it’s my single favorite Becker fixed blade for EDC.
OMG the DIAL UP Internet sound again at 7:15 that is David’s ring tone for sure! it happened again in one of the shot show videos and he put his hand in his pocket to silence the phone 🤣
Glad to see Ethan moving away from sharpened prybars and finally offering an all-round outdoors knife. I love my Beckers going back to the Camillus days and a BK-7 in S30v is one of my prize possessions (I did a TK article on it) but the new Nessmuk is one of the best Beckers I've seen and also one of the best-designed Nessmuk knives I've seen. I prefer 1/8" or even thinner for a general outdoors knife but the full flat grind and distal taper really rescues this knife as a slicer for the outdoor kitchen, as does the hand clearance. Should also be a great design for woodcraft. As Ethan says, a knife should have a good point on the blade. This one looks perfect. On so many Nessmuk designs, the point looks more like Snoopy's nose. Although it's not quite the butcher knife of the original Nessmuk, I think GWS would love this knife and I also think it's an improvement from the original design. Better point and more hand clearance. Got mine on order. :) As for the folder, looks nice but liner locks are not my thing.
The Becker tweener knives have been available forever. The 14 is still being made, the 15 and 16 were discontinued. But I think they've seen his the bk18 is such a huge hit.
Agreed. 1095 CroVan is awesome imho. Only steel i like more, after decades of experience, is Winkler's work with 80crv2. No finer blade steels for me. Owning and using everything from D2-Magnacut the new harder particle steels are sweet but way too chippy for what i use knives for.
There are leaders in the knife community and Ethan Becker is one of them. I am a lifelong enthusiast and posses many patterns. The traditional patterns reaccomplished with todays production methods is a beautiful thing. The folder looks like a rat1.
I agree David, I'll be getting both myself. Question: will you be asking Ethan if he would make them with the black coating for order as well like you did with the BK18.
Could you please talk about your experience with the style carry clip on the becker? I've seen this on the GiantMouse Ace as well and shied away from purchasing that knife due to the clip. They look flimsy and just like a big paperclip that probably has very limited upgradeability. Thanks in advance
My issue is this knife is over 120 dollars plus shipping thats some serious inflation for becker knife and 1095 cro van isnt worth that much. I was like finally a nessmuk that hits but yeah nope.
Didn’t expect the knife center channel to allow that kind of language, I consider Ethan Becker to be the John Moses Browning of knives but there is no reason they can just beep that out! I’m not some feckless coward who can’t hear bad things but I’d prefer my wife and children not have to hear that in a Christian household, I considered DCA and knife center to be family friendly but I guess nothing is anymore, you just lost 2 generations of customers not to mention my nephews!
Hey DCA you guys are really entertaining to watch, and I'm pretty sure others enjoyed it as well. Have you ever considered an occasional series where you interview/talk with industry folks like Mr Becker here? I think that could make for some really great and super interesting content! Something to think about, maybe, if you haven't already considered it ofc 👍🏼👍🏼
@@douglassmith3901 Hey thanks! And yea, I'd watch the heck out of something like that if they made it. DCA has a great demeanor about him that I think would translate very well to interviews. Not sure Knife Center will ever go for it - but here's to hoping, right? 😎👍🏼
Had high hopes for the Nessmuk, being a BK2 and 10 owner. Very first time I used it splitting kindling I must have went through a knot and significantly chipped the blade. Bad enough that Ka Bar sent me a new knife. Love that warranty but doesn’t give me confidence in the Nessmuk with how easy it broke. Hopefully it’s just a bad batch.
What is going on with KnifeCenter and horrible Blade Show coverage. First vid I see is a choppy video of Ben doing his Knafs Lander 2 launch. Now this video of an interview not from Blade Show but months ago from Shot Show. Come on DCA and KnifeCenter. Time to shift my business to SMKW as they have much better Blade Show coverage.
Got the BK19 today. Exactly as anticipated! It is a flat grind BK16 with a more delicate "stabby" spear point tip, nothing more. Edge is rough ground "toothy" but working sharp. I'll reprofile and polish it. Sheath has good retention. Over all, No complaints, NONE. I hope somebody does a version in black. I like the profile a little bit better than the BK18 "harpoon". I am a BK17 fan. You can't go wrong with any of these BK tweener's.
I have more than one of each of the tweeners BK-15,16,17,18 of course I will get the 19. Just purchased my BK19 moments ago. Now we wait! It looks like the 16 and 18 procreated?
J’adore votre présentation, posée,calme, Découverte de mr becker, grand monsieur, je possède le Bk18 , Le bk72 n’est pas pour l’Europe,…..dommage, salutations de France, Bourgogne.😊
Just a common case stockman/wrangler. And a carbon sodbuster. No big problem I’m guessing it’s a wording issue. Your company won’t usps so I have to be sure to be around when. Ups/fed ex delivers it
That BK19 looks to me very much like a Canadian Belt Knife pattern - which is hands down one of my favourite knife designs of all time. Its now high on my knife 'must get' list. Personally, the thing that's kept me from really loving the Nessy pattern has been the exagerrated 'whale' hump and blunt point of it. YMMV And Ethan Becker... What can you say about that guy and his designs over the years? He's a pillar in the knife community.
Agreed all around! This is also the first Nessmuk that I've been interested in because it's not so... Nessmuk-ish(?) This has a much more narrow tip than usual and I really like that mid size. I already have and love the BK 18 Harpoon that shares the same sheath, so this is gonna be an instant buy for me!
Your website says out of stock Ships in two to three days. When I called for an update I was told that the supplier had it I. Stock and should ship in a week. Now you say stock is next door. I don’t care which it is but you don’t send usps and I need to make sure I’m around to pick it up
If we have the item in stock it is in our warehouse on location. If it is out of stock we get more from our suppliers. What item are you looking at? If it is saying typically ships in two to three days and that isn't the case, I will let our team know that it might need to be updated. Thanks! -DCA
Cool! I already own 10 Beckers but i will probably buy a 41, MAYBE a 19... When they BOTH are offered in black. Leery of distal taper on knives though, i decided to not buy the Cold Steel Master Hunter because it has distal taper. I hear the new GSM CS Master Hunter ditched the distal taper though. Distal taper has a purpose on swords, seems totally unnecessary on a knife. Hoping the tip is not too thin on the 19.
Just absolutely love Mr. Becker. Sir if you ever read this. Your knives will forever be around. The wisdom you've given this community in your designs will always be appreciated. Wish I could one day meet you in person and shake your hand. Please never stop doing what you do. Your a legend and always will be. Thank you Sir!
I really like this folder and am thankful they took the risk to do it in baby poop brown. I’ve always been a fan of this color but you rarely ever see it, for obvious reasons. I have sworn off D2 though as there are better performing steels in stainless at same budget price so I’m gonna have to pass.
