Actually, most of the world drives on the right side of the road just like America. Of 195 countries in the world, 165 of them drive on the right-hand side
And the imperial system thing wasn't the US' fault, Britain imperialized it into North America, and when the US wanted to try this fancy new "Metric" system British Privateers pirated the bpat carrying the metric weights. And now the UK pretends they don't use feet and inches.
The 195 countries are only the ones recognized by the United Nations… if you count all countries… it’s 165 Right handed traffic and 75 Left handed traffic. (141/54 if only UN Countries). And between 1909 and 1986, 34 LHT countries switched to RHT. Most notably Sweden, that switched overnight in 1967.
Apparently the main reason why a lot of countries drive on the left is because of self defence reasons. Because most people were right handed so it was easier to defend yourself. Nowadays it’s mainly because of the way cars are designed. So if the majority of the vehicles in a country have the driver on the left side of the car. It makes sense to make people drive on the right side of the road.
RIP Paul Newman, voice of Doc Hudson. As a NASCAR fan for most of my life, I cannot tell you how HYPED the opening to this movie makes me feel. The classic sights, sounds, camera angles, fans, etc. THEY EVEN BROUGHT IN THE ACTUAL NASCAR BOOTH ANNOUNCERS! They made a real love letter to racing here, and I can't get enough of it.
As I was reading this, I remembered a similar comment from another previous Cars reaction. Then I checked OctoKrool's video and saw that it was your comment, haha.
55:36 For those of you wondering, Ferrari said in Italian, “I hope your friend recovers. They tell me you’re fantastic!” And at 51:00 Guido is saying, “You know who I am? Who do you think you’re talking to?!” Which is freaking adorable, god I love the Italian language🥹
It's not just any Ferrari who said that, it was the real Michael Schumacher Ferrari. And why did I mention that? Because of a little fun fact: Michael Schumacher ist actually the voice actor for that Ferrari in the german and italian audio of the movie.
The funny thing for me is how a lot of people nowadays don’t seem to realise that just because something is old it doesn’t mean it’s automatically going to be ugly or low quality. Even sonic games in the mid to late 2000s had amazing looking movie quality cgi cutscenes. So honestly when I hear/see people complain about graphics and stuff like that nowadays It annoys me a little bit. Because most of the time it’s people complaining that a game or animation doesn’t look exactly like real life.
Even then, he’s a sport celebrity. He’s probably the same popularity as Messi or Ronaldo. Like imagine one of them went missing, a lot of news media and talk shows would talk about it
39:45 he actually did, in a book where they talk about their pasts before radiator springs, mcqueen brings up that he went to a racing academy with his best friend, however on final test day his friend sabotaged him, causing him to repeat the year in the academy all over while his friend moved on to racing. this is also why he doesnt trust anyone to change his tires in the first bit of the movie.
30:17 Y'all getting on her for not knowing Cheech & Chong, but she made a *Barnyard* reference and none of y'all caught it! Disgraceful! Blasphemous! 😭 Side note: in case you didn't know, Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton voiced Chick Hicks
BARNYARD THATS WHAT IT WAS. I was racking my brain trying to figure out what core memory she unlocked with that "cow tipping ha ha" and couldnt figure it out! Havent seen that movie in 20 years lmao
Oh definitely does surface level it’s seems silly but that’s why it’s works so well. I want more people to realize animation can convey and tell such deep emotions and story telling just as well as things that live-action too.
I watched this movie a lot as a kid just because of the goofiness, but yeah I'm an adult now and it has me questioning what I really want in life lmao. I feel as if the message here is, you can go for the big leagues and become a star in whatever field you desire, or you can just be happy and content right now.
My favorite part of this movie is after King crashes & McQueen goes back to help King say “you know you just gave up the piston cup? & McQueens says “A grumpy old race car once told me, its just an empty cup.” Thats one of the best lines of character development I’ve seen in a movie.
He goes from this massive asshole with an ego and superiority complex to this actually decent car who literally gives up his dream to help an older car to the finish after being totalled like that. He could've won and then did it but the principle was more important than the victory. EVERYONE there immediately respects Lightning more just for that alone.
I love this movie. All the clever ways the world is built around the cars, the classic Americana imagry, and the message about slowing down to find what's really important in life. It's just so good.
18:38 during a interview, he said that the director of Cars told him that the artists and writers were working extra new scenes into the movie for him. Cuz they apparently loved his voice for Mater so they just ended up giving him more scenes. I think he's just living off the residuals of these movies now lmao
Fun fact, there are a lot of deleted storyboard scenes from this film. One of them is Lightning going through the open road after he gets left behind by Mac, and he stumbles on a car graveyard. The other one is during his dream sequence when he is attached to Bessie, his original dream was going to be that Doc takes his engine out from his racecar body and puts him into Bessie. And so he becomes Bessie, ascrit sounds like the way Bessie operates, psychically hurts him. To make it worse, Mater takes Lightning's body and gets picked up by Mac. Thankfully it was a dream. Most likely this would have scared children too much.
The best thing about this movie for me personally is how it introduced me and my brother to Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts and it's still one of our favourite songs to date🏎️🚗🎵🎶
Im a little disappointed that they haven’t seen a lot of movies/shows that at this point you’d think everyone from every generation has seen to some extent. It also weirdly makes me feel old even though I’m only in my late 20s.😂
Wait wait wait.. Cars came out 6706 days ago.. and you’ve watched it over 4000 times.. meaning on average you watched it atleast once every 36 hours since it’s release😮😮
57:57 fun fact: this is my uncle. This was actually his last movie before he passed away in a car crash shortly after this movie finished filming. After this movie, my other uncle Jerome took up all the voices Joe did. Joe did storyboarding and Jerome did Sculpting
Actually, that "the worthless world building of Cars" video is pretty good. I goes through all the lore and also points out that these movies really....don't go into the world building of how a world inhabited by vehicles would work, like at all. It's really just the real world with a cars theme over it.
I like that Eric is the one asking the right questions on "How do these car people work!?" It is a very deep concept that people have gone WAY too deep with. I'd like to see how deep Eric can go. There is a Cars 4 coming, but I don't know when.
My favorite fun fact is that there is a Pope-mobile car (with the bulletproof glass and everything) meaning not only is there established religion in this world, but also that within the past few decades of this movie's events there was an assassination attempt on him.
38:19 In a Deleted Scene “Community Service” they did take out Lightning’s engine and put into a Steamroller, so their essence is their engine that theoretically can be swapped into different bodies.
Fun Fact: I got back to work after my “weekend” and my friends told me Owen Wilson came into the store, bought some stuff and then left without a word or commotion, I have never felt more sad that I wasn’t at work
Cars 2 does it's own thing, while cars 3 feels more like a follow up to the first one. Each movie there's a time skip with cars 3 having a specific amount of time between the it and the first movie making more of a sequel to the first cars.
I think their tires are like shoes not their feet. I think their feet could be considered their rims and the tires are shoes and as they "run" (race) they ware down like they would for us and that's why they have to change them or they fall apart (just like ours do when we wear them forever and put them through everything)
I LOVE that Bree's favorite movie is Oliver and Company 😍😍😍 the scene of Georgette getting ready and singing Perfect Isn't Easy is one of my visually favorite movie scenes of all time
14:18 those cars should have been arrested a while ago. That's basically attempted murder, I don't even believe that that hasn't been used by assassins yet.
Fun fact: if you had bought the movie on dvd there were bonus scenes of their stop motion sketch’s that didn’t make the final movie. In there was a scene where they removed Lightnings entire engine and put it in a steam roller for him to fix the road and put maters engine in Lightnings body and Maters went to go race.
My childhood Pixar film that I watched all the time so much so that till this very day that my father will still joke about the lighting McQueen faster than fast bit anytime a quick motion happens in any sporting event to make me and himself laugh.
Something I never noticed before. Doc's front right tire is slightly flat. What a brilliant way to convey an old injury from what is essentially a sports accident.
I remember watching some random interview and Owen casually mentioned his un-aliving attempt. I'm glad i wasn't drinking anything, because i would have spit it out. I had no clue. It was end of August in 2007. He did the wrist thing and took pÍlls. I'm glad it didn't work and he got the help he needed. Just looked it up, Marley & Me was his first movie back after the attempt.
It's funny how from the start of the film you guys were questioning the logic behind the car's anatomy and how they apply in their universe along with daily obstacles. Everyone questions the logic because you can tell that not much thought was given to the film's lore 😂. It looks like a world made for humans but it has sentient cars instead of the world being crafted for the sentient cars. A movie that did this correct with its world's aesthetic is Robots from 2005
There's a deleted scene that kinda explains how the cars live. In the deleted scene the townfolk wanted Lightning to compete in their first ever Radiator Springs Grand Prix to lure travellers back to their town again. Lightning refuses, choosing instead to do community service. Only to wake up and see a reflection of him as a steam roller because Doc removed his engine from his race car body and put it in the steam roller, then he tormented him further by putting Mater's engine inside his original body. Then Mack shows up and picks Mater up, mistaking him for McQueen and drives off. Lightning begs Sherif to stop him but is forced to continue working on a road that is ten times longer than in the actual movie. The whole thing was then revealed to be a nightmare but there was an empty steam roller husk sitting in the corner. Panicked that what happened in the dream would play out in real life, Lightning changes his mind and agrees to do the race. So I think if a car wanted to change models they could by having their engines removed and placed into another body. That means the cars aren't them essentially but their engines.
I was just wondering whether you guys would react to this. A fun fact is, in the British version of this movie, Lightning’s agent is voiced by Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear/Grand Tour fame
@@jeremytung1632 Yeah but Pixar, especially in the past, have often gone far out of their way for foreign versions. Even for the same language across multiple regions. Generally they also replace any text on basically any and all signs, posters, and banners in their movies to the respective language its dubbed into. Thats a level of dedication you never see from other studios.
Fun fact about Mater, is that when they asked him to try out for this part, it was only gonna be a small part, but they loved his voice so much they ended up rewriting some of the script for mater to have more screen time. Larry talks about it in an interview
10:43 Actually more countries drive on the right side of the road. Most of the countries that drive on the left were colonized by the British and so that why. Iirc the reason they drive on the left in Britain is because a law was passed a long time ago in order to reduce collisions but I could be wrong.
The fact that with this and transformers are the films that made me facinated with car culture and racing not cars and racing themself lets make that distingtion im just glad i like these franchises including the recent transformers one when it comes please watch it
10:50 no the only country's who drive on the left instead of the right are Japan, India, Thailand, Nepal, Bhutan, Mozambique, Suriname, East Timor, Indonesia, uk, ireland, malta and cyprus
I got this movie on DVD as a Christmas gift from one of my dad's coworkers when I was nine years old. I played the Cars game on PS2 all the time. Cars was as integral to my childhood as...just about anything else. People might dump on the 2nd movie, but 1 and 3 are great films.
This video gave me so much joy, this is one of my favorite childhood movies. Never get sick of it! So happy you all enjoyed it, hope you watch the rest and get to experience the craziness of Cars 2 lol
The King is voiced by racing legend Richard Petty (also nicknamed The King). He set a record breaking 7 NASCAR cup champions. That record hasn't been broken, but has been tied by Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Sr. His wife Lynda voices the wife in this movie as well.
10:42 "we're one of the only ones that drive on this side of the road" dude, most countries drive on the right, the ones that drive on the left are mainly just the other former British colonies like Australia and India (which is probably why you thought driving on the left was the "standard")
Doc is a 1956 Hudson Hornet, a new sportscar designed to rival the corvette. It was discontinued due to the trend of a V8 outpowering the Hornet's Twin H power 6 cylinder, despite the Twin H higher top speed, the V8 was just simply a better built motor.
Doc Hudson was famously voiced by racing legend Paul Newman. It's fitting that he voiced Doc, a racing car who still had more to give, because, sadly, two years later, he would pass away from lung cancer.
The Italian guy at the end was supposed to be (and was actually voiced by) Michael Shumacher. An extremely successful Formula 1 driver and also the most successful ferrari f1 driver. They're meeting their absolute idol.
Man, the lesson of this movie really home... i dont really like when my dad take the highway every time our family going on roadtrip. That becuase there a different between highway and the long road. Highway were boring and scary at the same time. Boring becuase there nothing to look at. Scary because of how fast all the car are around you and stop are so far apart that you never know when to stop driving. The long road however have a lot of "pit stop", the road is fun to look at becuase it change as the time go on. It the journey not the destination....
Fun fact, there was actually a "Trains" movie that showed some of it's concept art recently. It was like subway New York with the Spiderverse aesthetic but it only got as a far as showing the art and never got worked on. It would've probably would've been the best spin off since we all know how Planes is really garbo...
What wild is that of the earlier Pixar movies this was like the only one fans/critics shit on. I to this day can not understand why. I can understand the second and third movie catching shit but the first one was genuinely a good movie.
The "Cozy Cone" is a riff on the Wigwam motels that used to be out there ("Sleep in a Wigwam!"), basically giant cement wigwams as rooms. There's still two left, one in California, one in Arizona.
Fun facts, Chick Hicks was inspired by Dale Earnhardt and his typical tap-em-to-spin-em tactic and Tripp Weathers and his car design was basically Richard Petty in his old Pontiac.
38:25. Fun fact... in one of the scrapped story boards for the movie, they did want to shift Lightning into Bessie by switching their engines like a brain swap thing. Then i think it was Mater who took Lightning's body and left Radiator Springs.
Imagine how many sports sentient cars can actually do, racing is like every sport combined to them, with the exception of like demolition derbies being like ultimate fighting or something
On the dvd extras there was a deleted scene story board thing, and it had them take Lightnings engine block out and fit it into Old Bessie to fix the road and his consciousness was transferred into Old Bessie, and I think Mater was then transferred into Lightnings body, meaning the essence of a car in the cars universe is the engine block.
