HEIVA PASIFIKA NYC, created by Te Ao Mana, is New York City’s first large-scale, Pacific Island festival. The event includes exciting native and indigenous performances, unique Pacific Island art and fashion exhibition, immersive cultural workshops and master classes, an Ori Tahiti competition, and community-building opportunities.
Hālau Hula O Nā Mele `Āina O Hawai`i performed Sept 29-30, 2023 as a part of its inaugural HEIVA PASIFIKA NYC festival.
Ka’i (Ho'opuka E Ka Lā) is an entrance dance. This particular ka’i symbolizes the rising of the sun and honors Hi’iaka, the youngest and favorite sister of Pele, who is a significant patron of hula.
