Video description: Andreas Wolff and Niklas Landin are both hosts of the upcoming World Championship, and they are both goalkeepers for THW Kiel. You will learn more about both keepers' idiosyncrasies and quirks in Locker Room Talk, brought to you by the Star gas stations. All of the following Locker Room Talks will also be found at www.star.de. 00.15 INTERVIEWER: Andy, please introduce us to your goalkeeping colleague! ANDY: This is my dear friend and goalkeeping colleague, Niklas Landin, born in a Copenhagen suburb on 19th December 1988. NIKLAS: Very good! 00.29 INTERVIEWER: Niklas, what's Andy like? NIKLAS: Andy is quite simply a good guy, and a person who often talks. ANDY: [Laughs] NIKLAS: (Indistinct, but I think maybe he says that Andy is often funny when he talks, whether he intended to be funny or not.) 00.48 INTERVIEWER: Andy, what impresses you most about your roommate? ANDY: What impresses me about you, Niklas, is of course how calm you are in the goal, your incredible ability to predict where the ball will come; and as a person you are of course very intelligent, very amiable. 01.00 INTERVIEWER: Niklas, what is Andy's greatest strength? NIKLAS: When you become a bit nervous or a bit insecure, as a goalkeeper you can seem ”small”. But when you believe in yourself, you stay ”big”. Andy does that very well. 01.17 INTERVIEWER: Andy, please complete the following sentence, 'A man with a beard is …' ANDY: (To Niklas) Did you know I won 'Beard of the Year 2016'? NIKLAS: Did I know? Well, once I was at your house playing poker … ANDY: Oh yes, that's right … NIKLAS: … and you had this, I think, [showing with his hands] 100 cm by 100 cm picture of you and your beard where it said, 'Most beautiful beard 2016', or 'Beard of the Year 2016' ... ANDY: Exactly … NIKLAS: … so I knew that, yes. 01.46 INTERVIEWER: Niklas, when you're two metres tall, you have trouble with … NIKLAS: I have big trouble finding good jeans. Umm … Airplane travel is also always a problem. ANDY: You are very particular about your jeans, too! NIKLAS: I like-- ANDY: You love fashion, Scandinavian fashion. NIKLAS: No, not fashion. But I like jeans. 02.06 INTERVIEWER: Both, handballers are special people, because … ANDY: We handballers also stand out because we're UNBELIEVABLY good-looking, unbelievably athletic, and top sportsmen! [He's being ironic, of course. He's right, though!] NIKLAS: (Indistinct) ANDY: Oh, yes, that's of course … That would be great, thank you [Still ironic]. 02.20 INTERVIEWER: Niklas, How did your life as goalkeeper actually begin? NIKLAS: Actually, it began when … I don't know what it's called in German … DE-youth? Well, at eight or nine years of age, our coach asked, ”Who wants to be the goalkeeper?” And everybody wanted to be the goalkeeper ... ANDY: [Laughs out loud] NIKLAS: … and then everybody got to try it, and then suddenly the coach said, ”Niklas, you be the goalkeeper. You're not particularly good at goalkeeping, but you're reading the game quite well, actually. You're good at placing yourself where the ball will come. We can perhaps work from there.” And from then on I was almost always in the goal. 03.12 INTERVIEWER: Andy, do you sometimes wish you were a field player? ANDY:I have to say, today, I don't want to be a field player anymore. I mean, the field players always complain about how difficult it is, how they have to run so much … NIKLAS: No, I sometimes still consider it. ANDY: Yeah? NIKLAS: Yeah, yeah. ANDY: It will be interesting if we maybe get to see you play in the field. But for me, no, not anymore, not at all ... NIKLAS: Well, no, this contact-sport is really not my thing, either. No, I think that … my calmness fits well in the goal. Those two things go well together, actually. 03.45 INTERVIEWER: Question for both of you. What does a home match mean to you? ANDY: To me, a home match is exactly what we have at the Sparkasse Arena in Kiel. You have the very best atmosphere. When the team is having a good operation, the whole arena is there, cheering and screaming, giving an incredibly positive vibe. And when the team is not doing that great, they are loyal, everyone is trying to get us out of that place where we're stuck, turn things around so we can get those points, you know? NIKLAS: Exactly. What he said [pointing at Andy]. ANDY: [Laughs] Again, I talked too much, you didn't get to say anything. 04.23 INTERVIEWER: Niklas, what does success mean to you? NIKLAS: Yeah, to me success means that you always win, and that you always play at a high level. Also that you're never satisfied with your effort in the last match. Like, if you've played a good match, that you don't just say, ”Now I've played a good match, now I can relax a little.” That you simply put even more effort into the next game and want to do even better. 04.48 INTERVIEWER: Andy, what are your expectations for the World Championship 2019? ANDY: I don't have a lot of expectations about the competition just yet, but … What I expect from myself is- NIKLAS: We are not in the same group, you know that, right? ANDY: Yeah, I've already said, the dream final would simply be Germany vs. Denmark, right? Well, not 'simply', but … [Laughs] No, my expectations are that it will be (indistinct), that there will be a whole lot of handball-loving people present to show support and express their emotions … (indistinct, but he is talking about intense atmosphere in the arenas). 05.25 INTERVIEWER: Both of you, who is the true host? For which one of you will it feel most like playing at home? ANDY: For me, I think it will truly feel like a home World Championship for both our teams. If we both get to the final, it will be played in Denmark, but … honestly I see both of us as hosts. 05.41 INTERVIEWER: Please complete the following sentences: 'At the Handball World Championship 2019, the winner will be _____' + 'This country or nation will triumph because _____'. ANDY: I believe beyond a doubt that my team will be the winner and triumph! [Ironic] NIKLAS: [Laughs] ANDY: (To Niklas) But who do you think will be the winner? NIKLAS: Honestly, it's hard to say. But of course I hope that we will reach the top. Denmark has never won the World Championship before, and this is of course our best - one of our best - chances, like you said, playing at home. ANDY: (Indistinct) NIKLAS: (Indistinct) 06.12 INTERVIEWER: Both of you, which 3 items would the other person bring along to a deserted island? ANDY: (To Niklas) Your family, at any rate. Your family is always with you, you are a real family man (indistinct), and then I know for sure, without any doubt whatsoever, that you would bring hair gel … NIKLAS: [Looks doubtful] Well, that depends … Am I COMPLETELY alone with my family on this island? ANDY: No, no, you would definitely bring hair gel! With 100% certainty! Someone could come with a helicopter ... NIKLAS: But that's not hair gel, that's hair wax! ANDY: Alright, hair wax then, but you would definitely bring it along! And the third thing would be your iPad. NIKLAS: My iPad?? ANDY: Your iPad, yes. It would put that down at number three. (Cut) NIKLAS: … And what would you bring? Umm … I think, first of all … Well, PlayStation and TV-set count as one thing. Then, perhaps your dog? ANDY: I would probably bring my girlfriend, but yeah … NIKLAS: Right. Girlfriend and dog also count as one(!) (Cut) And then you would bring … your mobile phone, so that you can see when the other guys play Call of Duty. ANDY: Alright, yes … NIKLAS: I'm going to change up the order … First priority: Weights! ANDY: OH YEAH, oh yeah … ! [pointing at Niklas] NIKLAS: So that's weights, girlfriend/dog, and then PlayStation as the last one. 07.36 INTERVIEWER: Question for you both: Which one of you have bigger biceps? ANDY: That's a really lousy question. I'm not gonna talk about that … 07.42 INTERVIEWER: Black or white. ANDY: Blonde / NIKLAS: Brunette ANDY: Biceps / NIKLAS: Head ANDY: I have to answer honestly: Take out / NIKLAS: Take out (Other option was 'cooking') ANDY: Gaming / NIKLAS: Before or after children? Gaming (Other option was 'reading') ANDY: Doing dishes / NIKLAS: Doing dishes (Other option was 'cooking') ANDY: Germany / NIKLAS: Denmark
