Yes I think it's a little suspect they had 2 different camera angles close to the bike but on the other hand it can't be that easy to shatter an engine that fast on command either.
Tells you it wasn’t ever kept oiled up and the maintenance was never kept up on it this usually happens with any small engine they are more needed and how I know this I had a similar problem happen with one of my old 50cc mopeds I had it were I blew the crankshaft on it and melted the piston and when this happened the timing chain broke and it got munched up along with the drive belt so I had to have a complete rebuild done on it but those are only good for so long then you got to replace the entire engine assembly. These people are better off just buying a whole new engine assembly and starting over from scratch because rebuilds aren’t worth it if you ask me because I have had a rebuild done before and they aren’t as reliable after they are rebuilt so my advice start over they didn’t put oil in it and keep the oil levels up that’s why this happened.
@@ruckusrider2023 that's not true you can rebuild an engine with high quality parts to the specifications of the manufacturer and there is absolutely no reason for it to be less reliable.
Setup to explode on demand for the video. That rattle trap was definitely on it’s last leg. And yeah, where’s all the oil and/or coolant? Fooling nobody...hopefully.
i more prefer and trusted rebuild engine than any new factory engine because i can use performance/heavy duty critical parts in it such as heavy duty conrod, bearing and wiseco piston in it. my ktm 500exc that been convert to supermoto have been 5 years now till the rebuilt with everyday ride to work at 50miles distances, everyday play with the power and revlimiter, still no sign or sound of conrod out of specs. im only maintain a valve check every years. the stock factory ktm engine i use only last less than 2 years before the conrod start rattling, maybe its because daily use on the road and highway that its not design for.
You should have gotten a 3 stroke best bike I have ever raced on trails, tracks and just drove on trails on general, the downside is it's just my imagination
A modern fuel injected 450 is faster than a CR500. Maintain a 450 correctly and you will easily get hundreds of hours out of the engine. Maintain any two stroke correctly and you MIGHT get 100 hours or so out of a top end if you’re really lucky. The guy in this video clearly didn’t add enough oil, almost none spilled out when the road went.
For everybody saying you aren't suppose to pin it like that, this is how you do a start in motocross, and this is also why you either have no idea what motocross is or you are the last person off the line
LISTEN TO THE FUCKING BIKE. you hear that metallic ticking noise? 0:13 thats not normal.... this bike was on its last legs before they filmed it. sounds like they took the oil out of it and its got a fuck ton of valve lash... or piston slap. possibly the rod bearings are shot... in either case.... just use your fucking ears. engines dont make metallic ticking noises when clearances are in limits.
Bentje Love not what im talking about..... i know what that islook up videos with ingition knock... or pre-detionation. it sounds like someone is hitting the top of the piston with a hammer. now this noise is a little different.... but ANY engine should not be making that noise. this isnt jsut once.... its once per stroke of the engine. meaning its mechanical....
***** To quote the movie producer that was filming all this: It's funny how many people think this was staged! Dereks bikes are maintained pretty well, he earned that number 64 as a privateer in the outdoors....not too bad lol. This 2012 450 has been acting up a tad lately (cutting out randomly). There was definitely oil in the bike...the video doesn't show it too well but all that oil came out pretty quick and completely covered the ground below the bike. and: The bike sounds bad on the side shot because there is no external mic on that camera. The shot from the front sounds fine because on the mic. But, the side camera I just had the internal mic on a canon T2i (garbage mic, walmart camera) so everything sounds blown out with way too much treble. So yeah....Use your fucking ears....
@@vincewithslapchop3940 rod knock is the is the pinging sound at idle and it overpowers the exhaust sound at W.O.T. An experienced rider would know that it was going to detonate and ruin the crankcase among other integral parts of the engine, but I forgot some people have more money than brains or just don’t care 🤷♂️
@@vincewithslapchop3940 👍 just make sure you listen to you bike and if something sounds off don’t take it to far from home without investigating what is up, your ears and preventative maintenance will save you a lot of money in the long run. Stay safe and don’t push too far past your limits to fast.
@@shane_7even_ten569 That tip is good for any vehicle. If it sounds wrong, something is wrong. Gotta keep an eye on anything that might be different than usual.
The comments on these videos are ridiculous 75% of you have no clue how an engine works and no clue why he was doing this which was to practice holeshots lmao
They Grenaded this thing on purpose, you can hear the bottom end is shot as he pulls up. Not only that he isn’t even on a start stretch to practice, they just staged it so we can see the usual Kawi performance out of the gate
Modern 4 strokes only have a small amount of oil drain down from the head, as well as the sprayers that cool the piston/rings. Unless it punched out the bottom of the cases I wouldn't expect a great deal of oil.
I agree. I had a crf150f (they are air cooled) and it never ever had a problem and it was smooth and never over heated. I got a 2009 crf450r last Christmas and it's over heater 3 times and puked coolant every where and the gear box isn't very smooth
@@fourwheeleranddirtbikecont2865 if you ride a 2 stroke right and take care of it it will take car of you my friends dad has a 250r 3 wheeler and it aint been rebuilt in 30 years and it’s strong
@@masterjcp1274 nice to know I’m saving up for a 01 cr80 and I’m upgrading from a 110 and know about the 2 stroke engine I almost reconsiderd saving up for one knowing I have to rebuild it.
***** Strange because i have 2 crf 250 ,":the one mine" with head problems and one with blown motor for spares "broke at cases at counter ... dont know you tell it at english" on my garage .the first not mine crf brand new at 0 hours at second startup had broke the decompressor and the motor fuck up ,we went back to the authorized dealer after 2 hours of buy and quess no varanty and there are was not the only crf ....... "at least ktms have 30 days". I have change 19 mine motorcycles, ride many many others, race enduro for 11 years, dragster at cars and have pass 20 years at garages, this which i learn is dont be so absolute follower at one brand every brand has the neg and the possitives the good model and the bads. Of course in each motor plays a big role the maintenance, the control mode by the owner, and that kxf i think it was little stress lol Ahhhh and why I have crf ,its because my previous boss owed me money and for lose them i choose the big H. At new season i ll fix the motor sell it and try buy a 2stroke 250cc to enjoy the rides at mountains "not big fun at 4strokes enduro":)
***** yeap thats a typical honda kid fan lol tell your dad world have change Ahhh and go to school to learn more words .... have a nice day with your video games lol
Has anybody ever heard of "throwing a rod" cause that's what happened here he did nothing wrong so I'm gonna explain this to you at the begging of the video u can here it rattling right that more than likely means the rod or the cam is loose so it's making that sound which then it finally just popped out and threw a rod that the only thing that could possibly have enough velocity to blow threw the motor like that.
This comment section is full of people who are full on professional motocross riders and mechanics so just know there is a lot of shit talking. This comment section is worse than wasabi vs toosexy lol
4 strokes are way too squeezed for horsepower. You just need to watch at a piston's skirt shape and size to see it will not last. they are throw away engines.
I Like the vid ..and most of the time you can easely rev a bike like this. its how you start in a race second gear full trottle and go.. but!!! its better to give a little les rpm. near limmiter but not in limmiter ,, there are time,s shit happens and this guy filmed it.. great job,, thmbs up .. and the noice in the gearbox is normal ..when you dont hear it rinkel its gonna break down ..so this was just bad luck. sorry for englisch i am dutch..greeds from holland .(driving a 250Kx )
I am a mechanic. I do oil changes and filter changes pistons ect way before they are due. I have owned and worked on every color too many times to count. Won’t buy green because I have had terrible luck with them. Last one was a brand new kx450f. Blew up got it fixed and sold it for a serious loss.
i love how people say its because kawasaki sucks i got an 06 kx250f it went 3 years racing gps and 2 motocross seasons without one valve adjustment and didnt blow and it lived on the limiter. soo what if i go find a vid of a crf450 blowing up can i say thats why you dont buy a honda ?
That thing did sound loose. vertical play in the rod main/side clearance with a top end inspection and a quick check on the rotor side for main bearing play is always a good idea. Though most of the new 4ts are having to move to plain bearings for high RPM efficiency.
I guess the tolerance for lateral crank play was slightly overlooked.. Or maybe the rebuilder or shop didn't actually replace those crank bearings.. Damn now you have a good cast aluminum boat anchor
First dirt bike I ever owned was a 1978 MX 100 that my dad found under a crawl space of a house. He rebuilt it and gave it to me. As of today, the person who now owns it is still riding it and its on the same rebuild my dad did to it back in 1996. Thoughs old bikes just don't die.
Same with the 1998-1999 Cr250’s Many trailer parks in Indiana have mint 98 Cr250’s bone stock, if u ever visit Indiana drive thru a trailer park and u will see a shiny red 2 stroke chained up on their porch
@@tct72 its a lot less than most racers would do, but a top end rebuild every 333 hours isn't so out of proportion for an average DIY joe. The two stroke aircraft engines I overhauled would get a full crank rebuild and top end at 350 hours.
Tyler green, it's only about $150 and we can do it ourselves. Not a big deal, once 4 strokes break you go buy another, because the cost of repair could potentially be more than the bike is worth in almost situations. 89 smokers are still out there in the market and running good as ever.
+bam 0217 Yet ironically, more two strokes from the past are still out and riding as opposed to the older 4 strokes, which were given up on, because they're more than twice the price to rebuild.
what's up with the hate about 4 strokes in the comments? Real motocross riders and dirt bike enthusiastic people shouldn't be fighting over 2 strokes and 4 strokes
Exactly the reason why I ride a ktm I’ve had to many bad experiences with Kawasaki’s, 2 of my friends crashed my Kawasaki quad and also my friends kx 250f blew up and my friend had to get bay flighted to a hospital
I used to help a guy who did MX racing take his practice laptimes, we got something like this happening once, first run after the rebuild the piston rod went straight through the gearbox and out below, oil started pouring out, the damage was huge lol. Glad it wasn't my job to work on that, it looked terrible.
That piston must've been fried. It looked like the rod blew and then shot out the case, he couldn't see the destroyed cases because of the skid plate:/
