@@moomoomoo33ass Hey mate they had to deal with the British Empire through most of the 1800s finally gaining independence in 1919 then more recently the Soviets invaded in 1979 and were there for a decade, then they had to deal with a totalitarian Islamic regime, then all the UN stuff. The normal families, the little children the old ladies, normal people just want to live the same as you do in peace don't blame the religion blame the fanatics.

That’s actually not very true. A government, more often than not, is very much a mirror of the society it’s legitimised by. Even illegitimate governments, from a democratic point of view, often times very much represent a lot of the sentiment that exists inside a country. It’s neither right nor clever to separate a society from a government. That of course doesn’t mean that people individually are always to blame for the political situation. But the society very much is and almost everyone is somehow a part of it.

Government is define by their own People.

People going on about their lives is not news. People go about their lives even in the poorest and most destitute regions in the world. It's good that he shows that and that we can all realize, people are people everywhere, but that should be obvious to everybody and it's not newsworthy.

@Night Train I was about to type the same. You have to know what to research & how to research. It's doable, but even with homework, things can go seriously sideways rapidly. The elections concerned me, as Nick was there. That can be a very tumultuous time, as people can have serious differences. All hell can break loose in a heartbeat. You should always have a plan A,B,C & a place where you can shelter-in-place, outside a big city, should things go south. Having a contact or 2 in-country is helpful as well. Best to travel to a few friendly countries first, so you know the proceedures for VISAs, passports, etc. It's a good idea to know the lay of the land, learn to use a good translator program, how launguages translate, how translations can be easily misunderstood, get to know customs of the people (what is polite or normal to you may be VERY offensive to other cultures, eg - Putting your thumb up to hitchhike, Saying directly translated "I'm cold" in Spanish translates as you are an emotionally cold, heartless person... the correct literal word-for-word translation is "I have cold"... Not Yo frio, but Tengo frio. If referring to someone else, eg "Tu frio", you can see how something so innocent can turn into something offensive to others.) In some places shaking hands is considered disrespectful. Know where military actions are going on! Aside from that, get educated, explore and have a great time! You (probably) won't regret it. You have to put things in perspective. Sadly, every country had some violence. Some tourists areas, airports, etc. are targeted by theives, scammers & sometimes those who are trying to survive. We have that here in the US. When you travel, be alert, keep exact change in small bills. Keep your politics to yourself. Best to be apolitical & simply enjoy the people, allow them to share who they are with you. Go in with an open mind, & a blank slate. Most people are friendly & generous. There, however, are recruiters, some with bad intentions, some who always want more, want people to join their causes, etc. Some can be very convincing. Some kidnap others for money, but some to kill & make a point, some for recruiting purposes. Just be aware, alert, get go know how to do this as safely as possible, then go, have a great time!

@@CarolReidCA I'm certainly impressed with a lot of the advice you gave. Regarding the elections of our country, it is indeed very dangerous because Afghanistan has never been so divided politcally before. About 40% of the nation support the Taliban. The top 3 candidates have a vastly different poltical stance on everything (although the 3rd guy will never win because he is Kabul's biggest mass murderer and warlord,he has children's blood on his hands...including my neighbour). Theft is very uncommon in Afghanistan since we are a very hospitable nation although unfortunately crime has risen ever since the government is losing control against the Taliban. Other than that, you sound like you're very informed and in touch with the precautions one should take and i am more than happy to welcome you as my guest should you ever choose to come here. the war was finished very early in November or December 2001. the purpose of the war was to rid the government of the Taliban and replaced it with another. that goal was achieved 18 years ago. now Afghanistan is back on the world stage, importing exporting goods to Iran and other neighbors etc.
