I really love how Scott interacts with his community. He answers questions, hearts almost all comments because he appreciates them and gives comfort to people who had a bad day. Thanks for being such a great RU-vidr and greetings from Germany
You're welcome Jan. I really want to create a sense of community here. I didn't have a Pokemon community for most of my life and just played by myself so it's so amazing to be able to connect with everyone and share our love of Pokemon!
Honestly I know it's an obvious joke but yeah, Scott's delivery makes that shit so much funnier. I can see your average RU-vidr make a big deal about PP jokes, but Scott just makes them and moves right on
The nicknames being unfair wasn't because one takes a little longer to type when you make the names.. but every time that pokemon comes out into battle, one has a longer name which takes longer for the game to type out. If you add up all the times the game says each 'mons name those few extra letters add up
Names come up instantly in gen one though, and even if that weren't true it's literally frames of difference it technically adds up, but not by a noticeable amount probably not even 30 seconds worth of time.
@@lazystinkydog It's one frame per character in gen 1, so for a difference of 3 letters, that's a second every ten times the name comes up. And the names come up a *LOT* in gen 1 - once when you start the battle, at least once when your pokemon performs an action (and much more if you're poisoned in battle). Over the course of a run, this adds multiple minutes of difference
It's interesting coming back to some of these older videos and seeing just how much Scott's grown in his presentation and design over time. Still a great vid either way.
I always preferred Kabutops. I remember pulling a holo Kabutops from one of the Fossil packs I got as a stocking stuffer for Christmas back when I was in 5th Grade. Good times. ❤️
Wow! What a behemoth of a video. I have never fallen into the “Lord Helix” hype, so I was pulling for scythe hands all the way. Keep up the awesome work man. I believe in you! You are going to reach your dream of YouTubing full time!
I figured the name length difference was in reference to how long each battle takes to start and how long each text box is on screen for. (When it types out that *insert name* uses a move) Its a neat concept if it makes a difference. .1 second per box, multiplied by the thousands of boxes that pop up makes a difference when you've only got minutes between different wins
To be more precise, a two letter difference is a 1/15 seconds per name usage. Pulling some numbers out of my ass, let’s say a play through like this has around 100 trainer encounters (with an average of 3 Pokémon per) and 500 wild encounters. If you one-shot everything, you would have the name called once at the start of each battle, and twice per Pokémon (once for the move, once for experience), then let’s say you level up 65 times. You’d have a total of 2265 name calls, losing exactly one full Pokédex worth of seconds.
@@Blahblah97555 I think that number is pretty accurate to how fast the Fast Text Speed option is. Though it may be instead one every Frame so it could be 1/30th of a second. This will have to be checked.
Thanks for making these kind of very indepth videos to settle these childhood questions. Now we have more evidence on why we should praise the Dark Lord.
I really like the splits on the side being visible at all times in these comparison videos, it's not something you use in later videos aside from odd references here and there but i find it really convenient to be able to see how they compare step by step at all times.
Honestly, when I first started watching your videos months ago I thought they were kinda lame because of the often awkward movesets and strategies but I'm glad I stuck around because this has become one of the best pokechannels out there; this video was awe inspiring, keep the good stuff coming!
I remember you commenting on some of my very first videos. You suggested the no-special Butterfree run! Probably the most annoying thing I've done to date, other than beating Agatha with Hitmonchan. You certainly stuck through some seriously awkward content!
I really appreciate the ultra marathon version of these versus videos. Making sure you have a run that has optimized both pokemon really makes it fair for both sides
Growing up I remember watching the episode where Ash and friends get the Togepi egg. I always thought Kabutops was a prehistoric bug type. He's in my top 3 favorite pokemon. Scyther and Heracross are the others. I haven't finished the video yet, but I am loving this. I've seen a few of your videos now and your channel is growing on me. Keep on keeping on! :)
I'm all with the underdog omastar here. I think his special along with his coverage moves could give him the edge he needs to even things out on the Elite four. Let's go, Lord Helix!
I'm a bit late to the party but it is very interesting seeing both the more natural way starting with the first stage, then seeing starting out fully evolved. I'm anticipating/hoping that Kabutops is going to win, and not just because its design makes it an honorary Bug Pokemon in my book.
This video was the first video that caught my attention of the VS series because of the dedication to answering the question of who is honestly the best, despite the amount of full game resets it might take. I was watching and didn't see how long the video actually was and was basically fckin floored when he did 3 whole runs! Most other tubers I watch might be inclined to take the lucky win that happens here or there and just end with that, but this man is like "what's the real answer?" for his 2nd run then is like "I SAID THE REAL ANSWER" for his second. Got my whole inner childhood replying with "perfection" once the whole thing was finished. For the sake of my childhood questions (and doubts that they would ever be answered) KEEP IT UP SON TAKE MY LIKE AND COMMENTS ON ALL YOUR VIDEOS FOR THIS SERIES!
1:25:40 - actually, it might’ve also survived because the badge boost glitch effect wears off on a level up, which you had going into the Slowbro fight
Another awesome video, Scott. So much hard work went into this video and it was evident from the get-go. I definitely didn't expect Kabuto/Kabutops to run away with the win, but here we are. Thank you for the great content, and I look forward to the Girafarig video!
Sir, I salute you. You promissed, you delivered admirably. If I didn't click that sub what feels like years ago after your innitial Beedrill run, I would do so now. This was HELIXly fun to watch and was some DOME nice commentary.
Just one slight correction, Omanyte and Omastar are Ammonites, which are prehistoric nautili (those spiral-shelled squid things that typically live deep underwater but come closer to the surface at night), not snails.
Even though my favorite fossil got beaten a total of 4 times, I have to give you credit. You've been improving so much over the months! Thanks for your content!
As a kid, I accidentally picked the Helix Fossil because "helix" is a word with an X in it, X is a very cool letter, and Kabutops is a very cool Pokemon. I also envisioned DNA helixes - long and thin, like Kabutops's scythe arms. Meanwhile the word "dome" made me think of the snail shell of Omanyte. I never got far enough into Blue or Yellow to realize my mistake. I usually petered out right after beating Sabrina's gym from not thinking to look for Surf in the Safari Zone. So to me, Sabrina, Erika, and Koga were a trio of final bosses that could be taken out in any order.
The Omastar line is based on the extinct mollusk and cephalopod, the ammonite which is closely related to cuttlefishes (but look more like a nautilus). Kabuto resembles that of a horseshoe crab, an arthropod and living fossil related to extinct sea scorpions.
I knew you had had this challenge in the pipeline for a while, but I had no idea how ginormous an undertaking it would be. An ultramarathon! You can tell that many tens of hours went into this one and you should be very proud to get it out there at last :)
On his way out Scott took the Helix Fossil for Omanyte and the dome fossil for Kabuto. He know if he didn't state that everyone would start asking. Actually now that he thinks about it -- everyone ask away. Comments are good for the RU-vid algorithm
These videos are so entertaining! Much more thought and substance than the infinite “can u beat Pokémon (x) with only a (y)” videos plaguing RU-vid right now.
Really enjoyed this 3 race run. Your video progress has been great to watch since subscribing many months ago. Keep this up as your videos have an orginal touch. May the algorithm spam your videos to all Trainers.
Nice video, as always! Just a pointer, if you want to "abuse" the badge boost, it would make sense tonuse a rare candy right before any major battle (the ones that actially depends on the boost) to reduce the risk of leveling up greatly.
I'm only at 1:31, but I gotta say... there are so many reasons high fiving a kabutops is a bad idea. Scythe hands, duh. But the high five is merely a blood ritual. Your Dark Lord demands your blood. You don't get to say no.
My new favorite RU-vidr. I also use to play Pokémon by myself. Now at the age of 30… I have a small but very impactful Pokémon community. Bless the Internet and bless these videos my friend.
Hey @jamesshealy6765, I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying the Pokémon videos! Sounds like we’re the same age (im 30). The internet and RU-vid is awesome, it’s helping me on my mission to keep playing these games and building community around them!
You know, I had been thinking this video wouldn't live up to the hype, but I was very, very wrong. Not only is it a good hour and a half of quality content but seeing just how different each run was was very interesting. Like, racing a Pokemon who finds Brock as a road block vs one that has the Lass as a road block? Then again when they are evolved and have a move that overcomes that weakness? Followed by ultra-cheese for the sake of it? Great stuff. It was also very fun to see you use mimic strategies, those are particularly hard to consider when trying to change the moveset, but it's always nice to see them in use and more so when they pay off! And to think, Kabutops never even reached its final form with hyper-beam and the gen 1 no recharge.
I agree regarding Hyper Beam from a stength perspective. However, from a time perspective Hyper Beam is not it's final form. If I played Kabutops again I would skip optional items and achieve a faster overall time. It's time got so close to Omastar's third race time because I was trying to buy Hyper Beam and grabbing extra high-priced items. However, the time I would have to spend buying 50 coins at a time in the Game Corner would have put it's time over Omastar's and caused a loss. I've got a video coming out this week that will show the sort of time investment that is required when grabbing these items to buy expensive game corner goods.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Yeah, I just meant from a power perspective. With how close these times were buying Hyper Beam wouldn't be worth it, but if you could just *have* it, it would be great!
Hi from a viewer from Brazil! I'm watching all your videos, and I'm very happy finding someone that loves the Dome Fossil. Great videos. I hope one day you do challenges on the third gen and beyond! (sorry for my English!)
I really don't normally comment on videos, but I just have to say always top notch videos mate. I really do enjoy your content and always look forward to your new ones. Keep up the great work mate 👍
I work 3rd shift. This is my day off, so my sleep schedule is aidiajfhdsof8gjaknck. In order to keep the same schedule, I binge watched all of your versus videos. 10/10
I'm really glad to watch this video. I was angry from a really bad basketball game and needed to cool off. This was a great way to just de-stress, relax, and think about something else.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon makes sense. And love how you went back and pretty much did everything possible to find every solution. This is the stuff I think about for pokemon so seeing it played out is a dream.
You know, I never thought about that but you made a good point. Both the fossils being water/rock and heavily countering Blaine is pretty cool game design. He’s one of the tougher gym leaders and having that one item you have to get way earlier in the game can come in at the perfect time and help. I started with squirtle as a kid (before I learned that bulbasaur is the superior starter) so I never had enough trouble with Blaine to have to try and think of a creative solution.
Commenting to help the algorithm because you are super dedicated and love your work. Did have to say though that I felt you didn’t do justice for Lord Helix as one of the base moves for Kabutops was using the badge boost glitch and Omnastar didn’t get the same justice. If you set up with withdraw, I feel like it would be a much more realistic matchup and may even come out on top. That being said, great work anyway as this looked grueling and that can be nit picky
I slowed the playback speed so that I could read the jokes at the beginning, and when I did so, I was almost exactly at 0:25 and the first thing I heard at super slowed speed was “AAALLLLLL HAAAAAILL THE DAAAAARK LOOOOORD”
0:14 - Ctrl + K and ripple deleting are your friends when editing audio. Ctrl + K splits your audio/video at the playhead. Ripple delete (found by right-clicking the audio/video clip, or pressing the shift and delete keys on a selected clip) deletes the clip and automatically moves other clips ahead of it backwards.
Specifically not ripple deleting because it pauses playback. I am removing silences / trimming audio while listening for repeated takes / errors. I then choose which take to ripple delete which pauses the audio.
58:40 I did know you can dig out of Sabrina's gym! If you play on normal speed, it is faster to jump down the teleporter pad first and then use Dig, as the animation of the teleporter will be displayed instead of the Dig animation, which ends up saving a few frames!
