Which 7th Gen Intel CPU should you buy? --- Which 200-series Motherboard should you use? --- Watch for all the answers!
My full PlayList of Motherboard Video Reviews - bit.ly/2iooS1A
1st, the new Pentium with Hyperthreading! If you're on a budget, if you're upgrading or looking for something cheap that still has good performance, start here!
G4560 if you plan to add a dedicated GPU, G4600/G4620 if you want to use the Intel iGPU built into the CPU
--- Intel Pentium G4560 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2khHeT4 --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2xrzPJV
--- Intel Pentium G4600 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2l2JPVj --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2YwdUNi
--- Intel Pentium G4620 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2l6Iyfo --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2Nw9lSl
--- Intel Core i3-7100 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2l2KRQZ --- @NewEggpcdeal.tv/2YAiXww
For these CPUs, anything in the B250 line will work:
--- MSI B250M Pro-VD --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kU44lo --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2JjaDdY
--- Gigabyte GA-B250M --- @Amazon amzn.to/2khMXYJ --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2ROJbbZ
--- ASRock B250M --- @Amazon amzn.to/2keU21j --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2XImHyM
2nd, we have the mainstream option, the Intel Core i5-7500 & i5-7600K. This is the recommended choice and it should meet the needs of most users in my opinion.
--- Intel Core i5-7500 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2khMk1H --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2xux8Hf
--- Intel Core i5-7600K --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kf3Fgj --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2XHXMer
Motherboard Choices - B250 for i5-7500 & Z270 for i5-7600K (and i3-7350K)
The above listed B250 boards will all work fine for the i5-7500, however consider spending a bit more for one of these. They all support AMD CrossFire and have 4 RAM Slots.
--- ASUS PRIME B250-PLUS --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kf29en --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2LFqFBw
--- MSI B250 PC MATE --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kEALVH --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2XmEZkO
--- Gigabyte B25-HD3 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2keKraF --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2KX3fbk
3rd, the high performance option, Intel Core i7-7700K - If you want the top of the line CPU on Intel's mainstream platform, this is it!
--- Intel Core i7-7700K --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kUaXTO --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2FIlfCa
Z270 Motherboards - All good choices for a i5-7600K or an i7-7700K
--- ASUS PRIME Z270-A --- @Amazon amzn.to/2lCy4T5 --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2Xp1NFf
--- MSI Z270 SLI Plus --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kU5RXR --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/324c6xv
--- ASRock Z270 Extreme 4 --- @Amazon amzn.to/2lCp14b --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2LE5tw5
--- Gigabyte GA-Z270XP-SLI --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kUj8iX --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2KWiqSm
--- CPU Coolers ---
For the K-CPUs, you have options, my 3 primary options at 3 price points are here:
--- $35 - CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kEDOx7 --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2KSFDog
--- $120 - Corsair H60 Liquid Cooler --- @Amazon amzn.to/2khT27P --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2LyrdJF
--- $190 - Corsair Hydro Liquid Cooler --- @Amazon amzn.to/2kEwDVA --- @Newegg pcdeal.tv/2JpLpKP
Which one to buy depends on how far you want to overclock. My suggested range is 4.6GHz to 5.0GHz, the more you spend, the more you can overclock the CPU, each jump in price gives you another 200MHz in general, but results are not guaranteed.
If you want the "safe" options, I'd use the Hyper 212 EVO on the i5-7600K, set it to 4.6GHz, and be happy, or I'd use the Hydro on the i7-7700K and set it to 5.0GHz and be happy.

*UPDATE* - One question many people ask is, "should I upgrade?" My opinion is that if you're on 3rd Gen (Ivy Bridge) or older, upgrading is worth considering. There are improvements to the platform beyond just performance and clock speed and this gives you a chance to step up as well if you like (i3 to i5, or i5 to i7). If you're on 4th Gen (Haswell) or newer, I'd wait for Cannonlake (10nm) in 2018 or 2019, my i7-4790K is not noticeably slower than my i7-7700K is, the difference would not be worth the price to make that change. I will be doing i7-2600K vs i7-4770K vs i7-7700K performance videos, to show the actual difference.

Tech Deals I have a core I-5 4460 @ 3.2 and I been using it to play every game like Witcher 3 and BF1 all on high-ultra with a 1070. I was considering making the upgrade to the kaby lake but I'm not sure.

Solid Snake, You're good for a while. I have the same CPU in my current machine. Your CPU ain't gonna be a bottleneck for some time. The only reason why you would upgrade would be if you're running photo editting or video editting programs on a regular basis. Having to run or encode 4K and stuff..

Hello Tech Deals! I have 2 questions for you and or my fellow subs. 1) My current system is a Haswell processor on a Z87 mb. Given that the upgrades/differences between the Z170 and Z270 based systems seem very slight, do you think that it makes more sense for me to upgrade to a Z170 and take advantage of the reduced prices of the Skylake series and a Z170 mb? Or is it better to upgrade to the latest components available as it would mean that my next update to the system after the one I am currently planning can be postponed later into the future? 2) Are you familiar with the Corsair Bulldog barebones system? If so, what do you think of it? What do you think of the revisions made to version 2? I know the look of the case is either a hit or a miss, but I like it. More important is, do you think the included components represent good value for money? Finally, you've already saved me money by convincing me that M.2 drives just aren't worth it at the moment. For this upcoming build, I've decided instead to go for a 1.1TB Crucial MX300 as a system/game drive. Thanks to everyone in advance for your answers!

1. I have both an i7-4770k and an i7-4790k, neither are being replaced by anything, there is little point... Both run solid all day long at 4.4GHz without complaint, the i7-7700K at 5.0GHz is "faster", but not by enough to be worth spending all that money on. 2. I am not I'm afraid...

I am not going to lie to you. I came here to find out about laptops and in the first 10 seconds I heard your voice and saw what you were wearing and clicked out to another tab. I spent about 2-3 hrs looking up other videos and other tabs closing them one by one not finding what I needed. Then I closed another tab and came back to you. I forgot to close out your tab but then I said to myself " well I guess it won't hurt too bad to watch what he says all the other ones were crap he can't do any worse". After that video I subscribed. Not closing the tab was the best thing that ever happened. Even though they say "never judge a book by its cover". You play GTA V better than I do lol. If you know what I thought you were I will tell you. I thought you were a salesman who didn't know wtf he was talking about but wanted to sell stuff by throwing up crap jargons and zero testing. I was wrong.

@@suspectedcrab Its still had to believe that a 4 core 8 thread cpu used to actually be considered "overkill" back in those days when you made that comment. These days an i7-7700k that is heavily overclocked can't even keep up with a lowly i3-12100. and an i5-12600K has *MORE* than double the cores of an i7-7700k. I wonder how powerful CPU's will be when someone else revisits my comment in an additional 4 years from now.

One thing that I disagree with you on. For most tasks, including gaming, the i5 7400k outperforms the i3 7350k even when the i3 is clocked at 5GHz. If you want a CPU at the $180 point, the 7400 is a better buy. I agree with you on most other points though. The only CPUs in this entire lineup that I could in any good conscience recommend, is the G4560 or G4600 (depending on whether they have a dedicated GPU or not), the i5 7500, the i5 7600k, or the 7700k. Those really should be the only chips in the lineup in my opinion.

@Tech Deals Which will be the top GPUs that you would consider using with each combo that you listed on the video (mother (socket) + CPU). Example there is no gain with using a gtx 1080 with a g4560. Please list AMD and NVIDIA options. This is about bottlenecking + worth in terms of spending such a low budget to install a 1080 on it. You express in a very clear and easy way about the guides + videos that you make. Excellent work

G4560 -- Roughly equivalent to i5 2400 - RX 460 or GTX 1050, though a RX 470, 1060 3GB, or 1050Ti will likely not bottleneck on the processor in most games i3 7350K / i3 7100 -- RX 470 or GTX 1060 3GB, any better WILL bottleneck in many games i5 7400 / i5 7600K - Anything short of a GTX 1080 or Titan XP. Will not bottleneck on GTX 1070 or R9 Fury series. i7 7700K - Anything you want. I'm sure Tech Deals will come around with his own list, but past the dual-cores, you can use any GPU within reason.

How exactly? Kaby lake can run all cores at max turbo, i.e. all cores will run at 3.5 GHz on the 7400 on load. On the other hand, when you load up all the cores on the 6500, they will run at 3.4 GHz. The only scenario when the 6500 will be faster is when you are running at 1 or 2 cores, and the 6500 will run at 3.6 GHz. Not to mention these chips can run at max turbo all the time even with the stock cooler. My i5 6402P has 2.8 base and 3.4 boost. However, it can run at 3.2 GHz all day long with a cool 55C temperature even with intel cooler.
@Electroblud
@Electroblud 7 лет назад
My 7400 runs at 3.3 GHz turbo when all cores are running vs 3.5 GHz single core turbo. So no, at least the 7400 does not run all cores at max turbo.

@shubham_yadav1611 7 лет назад
ElectroBlood Whoa, that's weird. I'm 100% sure that there is an option to enable that for 7600k and 7700k. It's called enhanced turbo in BIOS.

i7 7700 without "K", I don´t spend money in extra fan, it doesn´t heat, it last more than "7700k with overclocking" , and it consumes less.

Logic Gamer absolutely perfext for 1080p. im using a 2k monitor which i just bought which is 1440 and i run pretty much anything at ultra at a steady 60fps and higher

Logic Gamer if you want to go 4k you would want to get the gtx1080

francis Now I actually regret going with a pentium g4560 rather than an i5 or i7. I can only run bf1 at 40 fps :/

this channel has to be one of the most thorough informative channels I've seen, and without the sometimes annoying intros that others have; nice job! On another note, I just bought an i7-7700k (with a Z270 board and required memory), an upgrade from an old AMD Phenom II 955.

Like most of the people write on the comment section.. man you're so underrated! You make great videos with some REAL comparison, overview and opinion of electronic stuff. I've watched like 4-5 of your videos just because I'm getting into the "PC master race" and you've been a lot of help. I would recommend that you work on social media like facebook, twitter, etc so you start growing a lot more. Keep the good work going on!
