@@carlreeves6108 I agree to a point. I own both LMT Mars L and SR 15 16" & 14.5" I made my KAC's fully ambi with Redi-catch from Redo-mag. Now they operate like my Radian ADAC Lower. LMT is a little heavier up front with the piston. SR15's are my favorite to shoot. I also really like my SOLGW x Geissele 13.7" upper they just collaborated on. Got I have a serious illness. I am sure my wife would have us in a much larger home by now, if it weren't for my pesky addiction.
@@richardturk7162 You clearly haven't been in the industry long enough. People hide serial numbers so that people like you can't call police and report it stolen. I'm an FFL 07/SOT 2 and I had a customer before who had to prove to the ATF and police that a firearm he owned was rightfully his. Apparently he posted a picture of his firearm with a serial number on facebook who and some one reported his firearm stolen.
Back in the day when I was running some of KA stuff I never really paid much attention, now I'm a nobody again I think back and everything KA made was top notch..just trying to get a BCG and drop in rail took a few months lol
KAC has a really tight fit between lower receiver, end plate, and extension locking parts which allows them to get away without staking and also gives the stock perfect alignment. You can't get this with random parts thrown together from different manufacturers
You don't really even need to stake it you can just loctite it. I know thats heresy for some AR fanboys but it works and some companies actually recommend it like for example the maxim pdw stock which eliminates the end plate and uses a separate housing that doesn't allow for staking
For KAC absolutely buy. Other high ends I would say also buy it’s less likely you will be able to put in the knowledge to match their techs and their QC. for example we would never be able to put a KAC together if we have all the parts and I don’t think they sell the tools to just anyone
The bolt lugs and narrowed cam pin diameter seem to be some of the most desirable benefits. But ole Garland Plumb mentioned reports of people testing KAC barrels to 20k and still getting MOA accuracy out of them. Naturally i'm sure some barrels may not reach that bar. Depending on how repeatable that is from all KAC barrels, i'd say thats probably another very desirable trait.
KAC uses CHF barrels, but they stress relieve (word is, deep-soak cryo.... -320F or colder) after the CHF process, then hand lap before hard chrome, then they have a proprietary process for hard chrome application, then they hand lap AFTER chrome lining as well. My SR15 mod2 is silly accurate with all ammo. More than my 6920 and equal to my Sionics.
@@DBravo29er I appreciate the info. No disrespect but I definitely wouldn't expect the colt to compare. They might be the OGs but I feel they're overrated now.
Great video. I would note that the firing pin is also different. Bolt, cam pin, and firing pin. Carrier is standard. You may have said it and I missed it.
I have an older SR15 Mod 0 Legacy that is the smoothest shooting AR I've ever owned. I totally understand the higher price. Well worth it. KAC is doing it right.
I have a KAC SR15 Mod 0 also, and for a $2500 rifle I expected it to have a better trigger, yet what I got was basically a milspec style trigger. Now this wasn't a big deal because I'm an FFL 07/ SOT 2 and I had trigger springs and hammer springs in spare parts where it will lighten the pull between 3 - 3.5 pounds where I can switch it out, but once again for a rifle that cost about $2500 it should come better trigger.
@@DJG37S Unless its a precision rifle, you do not need a 3# trigger for a combat rifle. It's unsafe. When these rifles were built you didn't have the abundance of aftermarket triggers for AR's that you do now.
@@lm-usmc you can always tell guys who nvr in the military bc they always complain about triggers. We learn to use what's available then we nvr hv to go waste 1000s on triggers.
Just wanted to say thank you for all that you do and all the information and all the time that you take to explain things your channel is amazing and so are you. I have learned so much from watching your videos and listening to your knowledge. We appreciate you very much thank you hope you have a Happy New Year and God bless you and yours.
This rifle looks almost as proprietary as a 416. At least they are innovating a bit. I'm surprised Knights doesn't use something like the Surefire enhanced bolt carrier. For the price they might as well
There’s no need for a Surefire enhanced carrier when kac’s system is already enhanced. It’s part of the price tag. Most other co with ridiculous price tags can’t say the same.
I loved this video. I'm so into this stuff. I have a lot of amateur fun smithing tools but I want to get some professional ones like you have. Thanks man
LMT does 45 degree gas ports? I recently heard about the company Special Ops Tactical who makes the Siphon AGP barrels in 14.5 and 16" rifle length gas systems. I'd be interested to see what its gas port erosion looks like too. As well as if it actually does anything?
I'd love to have one of their 11.5s with a suppressor but unfortunately right now I just can't justify the price. All in with an optic, high end lower, light, kac upper, and a suppressor you end up with like a $5k gun.
I've got a good gun puzzle for you if you would mind thinking about it.. I loaded up a mark 262 clone for a PRI Mark 12 upper. The rounds are chambering tightly with many not wanting to go fully into battery with a difficult extraction. The loaded bullets pass a Wilson case gauge. The PRI upper passes a MIN go gauge. The bullets chamber perfectly in 7 other uppers I've tried except the PRI MK12. The PRI upper also has a problem with about 20% of factory loaded ammo. The brass I've reloaded is once fired British RORG. Also tried some federal, LC, PMC and Winchester. All the cases have been annealed. MK262 clone Rem 7-1/2 BR Accurate 2520 25gn 77SMK HPBT 2768fps 2.246 OAL Trim 1.755 Bullet comparator 1.856. Also this PRI upper is unfired. Thanks! Nate
@@SuspiciousGanymede it passes a min headspace guage though.. I did use some Sharpe on a round to see where its contacting and it gets full contact on the shoulder with a brite spot about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen just aft of the shoulder making me think there is a protrusion that was missed when the chamber was cut. I'm not sure how that could be thought because the reamer is turned in the chamber so if the reamer was broken or missing a tooth, there should be a ring that wasn't cut not just a small protrusion. I have 2 of these uppers and the protrusion is in the same place on both uppers, which are most likely from the same lot of barrels as they where built at the same time from pri
What gauge was used to determine carrier travel? What is the correct spacing size (gap) between BCG and lower receiver? Looks close to 1/4 inch. Thank you for any help
What a great video. The feed ramps on my KAC mod 2 have what looks like a little rust on them, an orangish color but I attempted to clean in it and it’s definitely not rust. Do I need to be concerned?
Thank you for the great video as always. I was wondering if you use any kind of inspection checklist to follow the steps in a specific order and not miss anything? It seems to me that such a list could be a useful tool and could also be a certificate or health check list for a particular rifle inspected.
This IS a rifle you can trust your life to! There are plenty of great and reliable rifles out there, but this is the one I’d grab above all others when it matters, just personal preference.
First off the KAC SR15 is a master peace of a rifle. Period worth the money if you can afford it. Second people cover serial numbers because criminals will make a counter fit gun and copy your serial on it to help avoid that cover that up
Great channel! Your knowledge, which no doubt an expert on this platform...amazing! Thank you! I was hoping you could answer a question, I'd like to know if polishing the bcg guide rails or the entire bcg has any benefits or does it hurt efficiency?
People bemoaning the changes Knights (and Eugene) implemented in the SR rifles always get me because "milspec" AR dimensions are very long in the tooth for a weapon system. Do they also complain about Sullivan's work at surefire with proprietary parts?
Seems like you mostly get new stuff in pretty good shape or factory defects. At least in the videos. Would be nice to see what some of the heavily worn stuff looks like that has hand a few thousand rounds or more through it.
Dang man.. incredible how you know all this stuff. Do you have any business in Georgia? Like can you upgrade rifles at your shop? and would love to see a review on Stag 15 rifles
So, a rifle belonging to a friend was recently burned in a house fire. It was set up pretty much like the original colt models save the holographic. The Handguard and the Pistol Grip are melted almost beyond recognition, although still there in its new remolded blob shape. The magazine is still inside the rifle but only drips of hardened plastic remain on the exterior. The rifle is rusty, much more rusty than one would think after only a week in the rubble. The bolt is registered , the charging handle won't budge, Trigger wont budge. Forward assist seems fine, magazine eject seems fine. So, the question, Would you even consider the possibility of any recovery of parts? Specifically , the barrel, the trigger group, the firing pin and the bolt carrier group. , I can send pictures upon request. Thank you for the consideration.
GREAT VID. AS ALWAYS, very well explained & I'm impressed on the improvements Knights made on this rifle. But they do charge you for it & I really can't argue about the price but I want to, LOL.
where can I find a knight stick though sir. I really want to put my suppressor on my 14.5. when you look at the tool lugs on the knights there's no rounded edges so what gives, oh and I can't find o e anywhere, I don't think any lgs have the appropriate tool besides not trusting them to not ruin my rifle...
hey i just watched your video on making your own gun oil i did it and love the results but the geese smell like crap when you shoot it on your gun i was wondering if you could recommend anything i could add to cover up the smell i didnt want to just spray the bottle of oil with Febreze just to find out that Febreze has a chemical in it that would rust the gun or something
IDK I'd be a little disappointed that the best AR money can buy from a manufacturer failed 2 of your tests, and require many proprietary parts that aren't field serviceable/interchangeable 🤷♂️ but that's just me...That being said I still want an SR16 URX 11.5 upper
Why wouldn't you be able to use the URR? The receiver extention can accept a milspec bolt so it stands to reason it would be able accept the URR. I bring it up because I almost always use the URRs on KAC muzzle device removals and if there's a reason I should stop I'd love to know!
Hey. I have question. My Bolt carrier gas key has a slight leakage in two spots. The gas key is not lose whatsoever and it’s properly staked perfectly. I have 875 rounds through it to be exact. I’ve had no malfunctions at all with 3 to 330 ejection pattern. Like I said before it even runs Tula ammo. Is this something I should be concerned about? Should I get it looked at and replace the gas key or should I just get a whole new BCG all together?
Have you ever thought about working with quality, no frills manufactuers for specific SOTAR tools or AR components? I think you worked with FCD on a cam pin right? Correct me if Im wrong
I know the e3 bolt is proprietary to the sr15/16 barrel extension but is the carrier a standard milspec and can it be swapped for another route a forward controls bcg that is more gas efficient?
Great video, i am need of some instructions on where i can replace my KAC SR 15 Carrier Key ? I dropped the BCG and now the Carrier key is visibly bent and wont seat properly. Any ideas on what brand of Carrier key and screws , cannot find any Sandcutter and or anything from KAC ..
@@RaftGuidePhil yeah the gas key tube landed right on the floor and bent it out of spec. The bcg will go into battery but will not retract using charging handle because of the I’ll fit of the gas tube. No worries KAC sent a new bolt and now gtg.
Won’t impact function or cycling but if you run steel cased ammo or bimetal projectiles then the shavings from those can get attracted by the magnetic parts and can cause excess wear or a malfunction
@@ThaHerbanLegend Also, there can be particles of ferrous materials all over the place. Shooting near the ground, getting the gun dirt, etc, can pick up tiny particles.
Is there a safe and reasonable way to demagnetize a bolt carrier and it's components without buying an expensive degausser/demagnetizing device? There are No legit gunsmiths in my area. No machine shops either.
