I have no clue why Disco didn’t even last a decade considering how revolutionizing it was and the culture around it, it was definitely a mental thing with the rockers because they’ll listen to New Wave no problem which has a lot of disco and electronic elements in it.
This is already stepping out of disco a bit and stepping into the “boogie funk” era. But essentially it’s still disco. Here they started using heavy synthesizers and bass lines.
I hit my 1st club in '78 and was total MAN-WHORE through the 80's! Did so much COKE. Amazed I survived and don't have 50 millenials lookin' me up today goin' "DADDY!" LMFAO
Sunday, May 24th, 2020: is the 1st time I ever recall hearing this track and even hearing this track. How is this you might ask, I mean being from Detroit and all....Well, depending on what month of the year in 1982 that it dropped, I was either in Colorado Springs, CO or Fairbanks, AK. Those cities didn't have the heavy sources like major U.S cities did for R & B tunes. Anyway, I'm hear now listening to this groove. It's gets a thumbs up for thumbs up!
I am in Colorado Springs,but my older siblings listened to R&B,Funk,Jazz.We lived in Germany when I was young and I kept listening to that stuff when we moved to Colorado after that.I also like the Detroit bands like Cybotron and Underground Resistance! That city has some serious musical history especially with the amazing Motown stuff!
drumnbass I used to listen to “The Soul Show” on the Pikes Peak Community College radio station. That segment was on for 3 hours daily every evening. While stationed there, that is how I kept up with R&B music. I took a radio broadcasting class there for a couple of semesters too.
@@virgilwyatt4632That is cool,I do like college radio stations.They play much more diverse music.I also listen to jazz.There is a local jazz station here that is amazing 93.5..I really enjoy it when they play jazz funk stuff on the weekends.I really like hearing Roy Ayers and Herbie Hancock on the radio!
Friday, August 7th, 2020: also the first time I have heard this tune & oddly enough any tune similar to this one. I noticed on the vinyl it says: Made in England fortunately I was not, twas consummated & conceived in D.C. The year: 99 of 19 for those select few reading this & these comments. I love this RU-vid channel!! A whole host of songs discovered that I never even knew existed! Everything about this song is perfect, the beat, the funky bassline, the keyboards, Vocals... and that vocoder is soooo dope! The only other thing I've heard like that is Eddie from Moloko who sang with along with Roisin Murphy in their later songs :)

This is post disco. When was it released in 1982? Sounds like late 1982. The majority of people in places outside of L.A. didn't understand or care about funk, so they derided it as disco. I never heard this song because only 2 AM stations and 3 FM stations played funk, and they were all in L.A. You could only hear 2 of those AM stations (KGFJ, KDAY) in the day but only 1 of those FM stations (KUTE) all day, but it didn't play a lot the funk that you would hear on the other 2 black-owned FM stations (KACE, KJLH) and the AM ones. Music styles were segregated and funk was underground in the early 80s, so it was a treat for some of us to listen to funk on radio.
The Drummer in this band "Micky Okoro"and others also had a Band called "The Cats" way back and had a Legendary Track out Called "Swan Lake" Check it out you will enjoy it i think ;-)
