After a while, I forgot this was supposed to be scary and instead thought it was some sort of abstract beginning to an adventure game. The 3 Oni creatures were actually nice and were following for assistance.

In the devs defense, this song's instruments are high pitch with a fast back-beat It even sounds like it's meant to be used in a desperate situation, such as here
I don't know how, but the music actually sounds kinda fitting. The main reason is because in the perspective of the protagonists, one wrong step and you'll fall to your death. The same rule goes for Rainbow Road.
My theory is that Yellow Magic Orchestra influenced a ton of Japanese music around this time, and we usually hear it in America through old Nintendo music. This is totally old city pop from when Nintendo was still making coat hangers.
It's so nice to see Pokemon returning to it's pixelated roots. :) Edit: I gotta say, the animation for the oni is kinda smart though. It walks overall the same speed as the player, but instead of maintaining a consistent speed it walks slow a few steps then takes a large one to cover distance, giving the illusion that it's catching up. Smart stuff.
@@little-rat-tim I don't know that much about A.I. (especially not in RPG maker) but... I would have thought a jankier A.I. might have had them move a bit more sporadically even with the path being as thin and... straight forward as it is. Even so, you have a point.
Its not like the music was some rare thing that this person couldve found by accident. Its one of the most memorable tracks from the first mario kart game
Heh, just a bit of teaching you guys here. In the game originally, the theme that plays when you are chased by those three Squato Onis isn’t Rainbow Road theme from Super Mario Kart, but the main spooky theme from the movie Psycho.-which is a common tend thing among Ao Oni fan games. The tree boys we got here are: Siro Squato Oni(he may be the "Siro Oni: the custom" version, I don’t know), "Slender Oni"-I don’t know why, but that’s apparently his name, reminds me of SCP-106 and Kuro Oni) and finally, normal Squato Oni. Why am I pointing this out to you that amount of years later? I don’t know! I felt like since I stumble upon this like 15 or 10 years later! Heheh! -by the way Siro Squato’s sprite looks kind of weird, but meh.

I feel like everytime I listen to this song and play kagami oni, I peer into another world of rpg maker graphics and nostalgic consoles. an Xbox 360 on my floor and a tv that I play on, while living next to the beach. This video is my nostalgia.

The shrill notes at the beginning even kinda fit the mood, to be honest. They'd actually be anxiety-inducing if the creator just looped that part over and over again. Instead they just... used the whole Rainbow Road theme.
This got recommended to me every day like 3 times. So i watched it to please RU-vid, now it gets recommended to me like 10 times a day, why RU-vid just why.
This is nothing compared to the sheer horror of being hit by a blue shell mere seconds before the finish line and then falling off the stage from the recoil
I mean, the first half of the piece sounds somewhat alarming with its high pitched horns, but the second half starts sounding uplifting which may or may not ruin the terror

This has the intensity of a chase but the visuals of an isekai character entering a rainbow and happy-filled place. It felt like i was watching the characters enter a magical world and that the cool giant monsters were their pokemons or something, it sounds like a cool game concept ngl.
I usually come back here to look back to this video, for the music, and for the gameplay, and how it all fits together, it gets me glued to the screen during the entire video, its so silly
I think I can kindof see what they were going for in the music department, it’s suppose to be “suspenseful,” but the fact we all know it’s a Mario Kart song doesn’t help. If some instruments were removed, like the bells, it could be really suspenseful. I think another horror game that does this much better is Clock Tower on SNES when you are running from a giant baby demon thing. Like after you sit down and look at the Oni for 2 minutes, all of its “creep out factor” is lost and it just looks weird, especially when you are going one mile per hour.
