As an overseas elderly Maori man observing, I go on with deep contentment knowing my culture and my people with the strength of their ancestry are truly securing their future, the war against colonialisation was lost but the Maori spirit won and the prize is todays Aotearoa.
The war was never lost, we can only go as far as what Hone heke had decided for Māori when he set sail to represent tangata whenua. May I add he came back with muskets, tobacco, alcohol and the Bible. I’ll let the rest be of your imagination. I can only suggest in my opinion he may have resolved Māori affairs with trade and dishonour.
I love these young women. There is no shyness or holding back, and their joy and comradery is vividly apparent on each face and every movement. A pure delight to watch.
