The Kaiju (怪獣 kaijū?, Strange Beast) are a race of amphibious creatures genetically engineered by the Precursors, a sentient race from the Anteverse. In 2013, the Precursors opened a portal between dimensions at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, allowing the Kaiju to enter Earth's dimension. As biological weapons of warfare, Kaiju are extremely hostile and toxic creatures designed with the intention to wipe out all humankind

the second pacific rim made me feel likei was watching somekind of japanese toys fighting, the first one however feels very realistic and more adrenaline pumping, the jaegers look so industrial and moves very slow but with that great power

Yea. I also like how there was alot of science involved such as why a single human cant pilot a jaeger alone, and how you have to drift with another person, etc

The sequel had potential at first cuz of the new Jaeger and Kaiju designs but the story, writing, and the characters were off... I don't mind it though but if they plan on making another sequel for Pacific Rim again, I do hope Del Toro comes back as director and producer and also quite possibly ignore the events of the second film... Basically a remake or reboot of the second film but with a better story.

I like Pacific Rim, personally i felt it was a good movie with a nice build up where humanity had to band together to survive against the kaiju when they began to attack and now we are getting a Pacific Rim 2 movie coming soon. I honestly am curious how they are going to pull it off. I have seen the trailer for the second movie so I am definitely going to watch how it unfolds.

Question: if the Precursors could clone and engineer giant monsters, why didn't they just wipe out humanity with a more predictable weapon made to specifically target our DNA? I feel like that would've been more efficient

My biggest disappointment was that they hyped up the jaegers and they were destroyed so quickly in the double attack. I was also disappointed that the mark (2 I think) russian one was shut down by the emp despite being powered by diesel and being an older model than gypsy danger. They said something about being analogue but I don't see how the older model wouldn't be.

If I remember correctly, the Russian Jaeger was pulled underwater and had it's power core crushed by the Kaiju. It was the Australian Jaeger that the emp shut down.

when they said Gypsy was fine because she's analog, I giggled. A gigantic analog robot, piloted by 2?! The writers were clearly baked before writing that scene. The whole 'Drift' thing is based on neuro-electrical interface - brain mates with machine. An EMP would fuck up that system, requiring at least a reboot. That being said, EMP proofing is standard on most high risk electronics. The fact that the several tonne combat robots, tall enough to be hit by lightning, were not EMP proofed was really dumb.

What they meant by analog, was that the system used to control the bot wasn't electronic. The one Gypsy danger used im pretty sure was a hydraulic design. Thats why their systems didnt get completely knocked out

i think there's a hidden reference in giving the monsters and robots German and Japanese names respectively, being the Axis powers in WW2 possibly hinting that this is the largest war in the movies universe since ww2

Never liked how they suggested huge humanoid mech suits were the most efficient way to fight giant creatures. Like, you apparently have weapons that can damage them - why put them on overly complex, hard to use, extremely expensive and slow to replace robots that are stored at the other side of the ocean? Just surround the crack with tons of mines, aircraft, ships, artificial islands, cannon platforms, etc... Maybe a simple spider-tank or two if you absolutely want to have some walking mech thing...

The Kaiju have toxic blood, that’s why we can’t use these weapons against Kaiju until they reach land. And that’s also why the Jaeger program was approved, since the Jaegers can use blunt force trauma to kill these kaiju

well too bad it is true. Domestic BO was only 100 mil. Foreign around 310 mil. Americans did not see this movie. It flopped there. That's why del toro didn't get the permission to do a second one. What I hate is that in Pacific Rim 2 it seems that there are only 4 working Jaegars to defend earth. That makes zero sense. They saw in the first film that their "wall" didn't stop the Kaiju, and what actually saved them were Jaegars. Wouldn't it make so much sense to start investing in Jaegars again? By the second film, they should damn near have an army of Jaegars on standby. At least 2 dozen. Yes, it would cost a fortune, but given what they went through, you would think they would see it as worth the effort.

The wall idea was stupid, Didnt they think that more Kaijus would either learn how to break the wall or just more would spawn enough to destroy it (assuming it was even strong enough to stop atleast one). They were thinking to be more cost efficient blindly believing the idea was gonna even work in the first place.

I think a term "strange beast" is maybe a bit too extensive. If we go by that definition, Xenomorph, Disney's The Beast, Giant squid and Unicorn would all be considered kaijus, since they are 'beasts' and they're all pretty strange.

I just watched the second movie and it was all right. I honestly would’ve been alright with just one movie and leave it at that. Although I do love the newest Kaijus. I just hate how they didn’t include the original guy(Riley I think his name was?) wasn’t in it. They set it up for a third movie but again, I was alright with just one since the second was mediocre I think.

Dr.cheeze guy This might be wrong but I seem to recall from somewhere that the precursors believed that the giant robots were the actual habitants. Up until the one dude drifted with the kaiju brain, they didn't know humans piloted them. That might be wrong though, I can't remember where I know that from.

Dr.cheeze guy The only reason they didn't leave I guess is because they knew that they could adapt to that Jaeger. Like leatherback and his EMP waves, specifically made to disable the Jaegers they were using at the time.
