KAIWEETS HT208D AC/DC CLAMP Review & Teardown! 

I just finished going through a number of your more recent videos as I only recently found your channel (my need to replace a multimeter may have had something to do with it). I appreciate the enthusiasm you bring, and the thoroughness of your reviews. In that the nature of my use of a multimeter has changed, I didn't feel the need to drop an excessive amount on it's replacement; you've given me some nice direction on what I might look to purchase, which includes these Kaiweets. During the low current testing, starting at 10:00 the meter is always reading 0.12 - 0.15 A or 120 to 150 mA, it was never near the stated currents or the labeled range of 0-22 mA on the test device.

It's been quite an eye opener, you have definitely put Kaiweets well and truly on my RADAR, excellent reviews 👍

I've had one for a couple of years now, and though I can certainly tell it's built cheaper than a Fluke I've never doubted its measurements. To get a comparable fluke would cost 4x-5x the price, so I could go through 4 or 5 of these things and still get the same value for my money that I would have from a Fluke that would have to last 4x-5x as long.

Great review. I would say that definitely competes with my UT216C clamp. The only thing that has is Intertek certification that the Kaiweets doesn't appear to have. Over sensitive NCV is something I have seen in other current clamps, I presume the sensor sits atop the magnetic core for the current element and may impact on it. Be great if Kaiweets issued a calibration procedure for the meter to allow adjustment. I think I will look to pick one up and compare it to my UT216C.

Thanks for review. 10:58 It's strange behavior of clamp meter. While reference current is 13 mA the meter measures 0.13 A = 130 mA. Am I missing something/

I recently bought the same multimeter but branded as Mayilon HT208D, havng the PCB version 1.5. But, not yet resolved the super sensitive/useless NCV. Rest of the functions are useable as seen here. Nice meter in the price range of US $40.

@9.57 min I see 15..18mA on the current source and 0.15A (150mA) or so on the meter. Is it really that good?

Great clamp comes with 2 lines display and bargraph. It is like a complete multimeter with some advance features but sadly the price here in mycountry is more expensive than uni-t ut210e. That compact ut210e has a better input protection than this one that is very important too especially for electrician. Thank you for the nice review, clear video.

I have this multimeter but I tested an electric fence with it and blew it up. The screen doesn't work now but the sound does. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? Thank you

That is a sweet meter

11:55 This is where you would try the RNG button, when you know the range of the measurement you're making. That's the biggest improvement over the 206D, adding that range button. Plus that range button allows you to make min max readings properly.

How does the screen look under sunlight? I’ve heard it’s hard to look at under the sun . Also I’ve heard this meter is more suitable for Automotive work . Can you elaborate? Thx in advance.

Nice dramatic review 😎 . Can this meter measure miliamps like the 10A non clamp meters? Can I use this in micro circuits precise measurements too, like the non clamp meters do? EDIT - Oh sorry I got the answer when I watched the video completely. But still would like to ask, Did you test the miliamps using clamp, or probes?

Can the NCV over sensitivity be ad-hoc adjusted on the fly with the REL/ZERO button, in the same way we would zero-out the current clamp?

Pure observation at ~ 10:00 of the video: The clamp meter shows 0.14 A, regardless of the setting of the source to 18mA or 10 mA. It displays stubborn140 mA. The resolution simply reaches down to only 10 mA in this range, not further. Hence there are Uni-T clamp meters with an advantage in this field. The hyper sensitive NCV is a big down for this DMM. This function is simply not usable. Would be curious, how it works out where mains has the voltage for real men (230 V AC) ... Aside this: This video is well made and informative as every Video from you. Thanks for the work.

No, they are different companies. Habotest is the OEM, Kaiweets is a rebrand but with superior support and after sales service

Little known fact no. 5 Nostradamus predicted that there would be a clamp meter on the Darren Walker channel that I would have to have.

Actually this Kaiweets is a Habotest (hence the HT in HT208D). Also, the Habbotest multimeter which you have reviewed as your number #1 multimeter (I believe it's the Habotest HT118 or something) has also be released by Kaiweets. It's 100% identical except the branding on it.

Hi Darren, I had spoke to you about the Kaiweets 206D, and I wanted to wait until I saw your video on the 208D. I gotta say, this 208D seem impressive… and it’s a cool looking meter as well. As I explained on the 206D video, I’m a wildlife biologist and won’t be using the meter on anything like cat III or cat IV, around my house, appliances and vehicle… and in the field on gas generators, extension cords, power cords, solar panels for trail cameras and 12v vehicle batteries for some panels and 1.5v lithium and Alkaline AA batteries. I think this will handle about all my needs and I love the idea of using the clamp rather than using the probes to test current, because I’m a chicken and get intimidated even by household 120v stuff. However this doesn’t seem to have a “Battery Test” mode? I suppose it won’t accurately test battery cells. I use the alkaline and lithium 1.5v AA, 9v alkaline or NiMH, and 12v vehicle batteries. Now I do have another inexpensive meter you tested that does have the battery check mode, the Astro AI M4KOR… which I got because my Ideal 61-360 & 61-347 and Klein MM700 meters don’t have a battery testing mode. So even if I got this meter I would need to still have the Astro AI M4KOR meter if I needed to test batteries? Think I still get this even if I need to have two meters in the field because of the safety of using the clamps and I wouldn’t need to worry about dangling test lead wires when checking and vehicle alternator. I love a healthy NCV as they are rare, but being overly sensitive can make it hard to pinpoint which individual cable is actually live/dead. I see it runs about $75 - $80, but in this case theres a lot of value and functionality in that price.

9:50 mA: I wonder if the finding is correct. The Kaiweets shows 0,15 A meaning 150 mA. And this would be a huge difference. I think normal clampmeters are not made for measuring in this low Amp-ranges.

Do you know if the HT208D DC amp is accurate under 1 amp to hunt down a Parasitic Draw?

11:39 116mV reading with a 100mV voltage seems really far off the mark. Have you verified that voltage source with a calibrated meter? The 208D I have was spot on when I tested it with a lab standard calibrator, so either mine is exceptionally good or this one isn't. Or, that reference source may need tweaking?

I have had my eye on this clamp meter for a while with inrush 🥳 🖖 I would like to see how visible the screen is in direct sunlight.. seems to negatively effect these type 🤔

Just bought this clamp for 53eur(60usd) Please tell me am i missing something? I alredy had mastfuyi fy219 clamp meter and aneng q10 which bought on your recomendation and after using it for some time i really love it. Wanted to replace clamp meter now because i did not like display very much and backlight had 30s timer. I also considered it to be quite inacurate. 208d is a giant clamp i was shocked. Leads are silicone and long (but have somewhat higher resistance). All in all im not impressed at all. Display is not nice like on aneng and clamp does not seem to be more acurate except on inrush measurement. Other measurements seem to be more acurate but i use it only for clamp because for everything else i have aneng and its same acuracy but much faster to use, smaller, and nicer display

Kaiweets is a rebranded version of a product by Habotest hence the HT code in the name of all their products. If you check the Kaiweets product certifications on their site they are all applied by Habotest as manufacturer.

I was thinking to buy same brand but the different one model was HT-206 but there was some issue with that which was not match with my preferences because in that model there is only 2 cell powerd due to that there is less timelapse for battery other one was current measuring capacity was only 600amps which is not enough for measuring inrush current which is many times greater than 600amps and the last one was if you insert incorrect polarity of cells the metre will get damaged 😢. Now I am planning to buy this model this is enhanced version of that but as I am just a student so this model is very expensive for me it is approx 7000₹INR😢I will buy it someday😍

Great review. The colour for the input plugs on the bottom, if you need colour coding on the bottom of the meter my thoughts are you just should not be using it.

uhm. I find the DC amp measurement part is not very accurate

When you're measuring milliamps, your source is set to 15 mA and the meter shows 150 mA but you call it 15 !!! What gives? Anyone else notice this? This is @21:40

100%?!?!?!? NCV seems too sensitive. Same color input plugs is just dumb, never seen any meter like that. Low current accuracy seems pretty poor. Temperature readings seem WAY off. I was thinking of buying one, now dissuaded, so thanks for that. I've got 3 Uni-T UT-210E's which are also 6000 count if memory serves, and are way more accurate when measuring current. I'd have liked a clamp meter that measures inrush current though, particularly one with a display as snazzy as the HT208D.

I think it should be rated 4 or less than 4. Low accuracy for mA and Temperature, no shielding, capacitance not tested.
