Geir says that most of the Vol. 2 songs are too confusing and eclectic to make it onto an album, but I absolutely disagree! They ARE confusing and eclectic, but that's what we love, and I think that's what makes Vol. 2 so strong! I hope you make more confusing and eclectic music in the future! Also, the album has Gresk Komedie, which is a great Geir song.
I think I see what they mean about the second half of the album not being up to the standard of the first 4 songs but I think that even if they're eclectic, the fact that they recorded them all together as a band ties up the sound and still makes it sound cohesive. Maybe not my fav Kaizers album but simply because most of the others are brilliant, this one's still super fun either way~
For me, Volume 2 has probably the most of my favourite tracks out of the trilogy. I love that record! That being said, seeing how this series is about giving pragmatic opinions: I actually can't get into 'Dine Gamle Dager Er Nå'. And that's surprising as it is the first and only song by Kaizers Orchestra that I'm kinda just shrugging at, despite giving it another spin every couple of days. Funnily enough, though, some of the reasons for that song not appealing to me mirror some of the guys' feelings towards their earlier work they're not too happy with. Song-wise, it doesn't feel very committed and I find myself asking Geir's question 'What is that?'. (; To me, it comes across as an attempt at a radio friendly song with some tried and true 'pop standard'-stylistic choices that people can easily connect with, but that also had to have some Kaizers Orchestra-isms slapped onto it. And besides that I just can't seem to warm up to the production that has quite the hi-fi feel to it, along with pretty hard, radio-esque compression that makes it sound a bit overcrowded and puts the vocals in a really weird spot where they actually have to compete with the instrumentals for sonic real-estate. Ah well, they can't all be zingers for everyone, I guess. That's at least the gist of this fantastic little series of videos, as well. (;
