what a stunning view, I hiked this trail on a boy scout trek when I was 13 or so. I remember looking down and seeing the silhouettes of a few huge manta rays
I wasnt able to pass the 7 mile. I started and got stuck there. I praid for rescue. I managed with all my willpower to slowly go back. For me it was too scary !!! Friends left me and went on. But besides that I loved the hike and the new group which I joined going back.
Hey @wilmut31 , so sorry to hear that. Hope your hike back out was ok and you were able to get back before sunset. Don't feel bad, I totally know the feeling. When I first started hiking, I was terrified of heights! It took me 5 years of trying to get used to high ledges to get to this point (in the video). Glad you were able to enjoy the trail in spite of your experience at Crawler's Ledge. Take care and stay safe/healthy!
I hiked it in Oct. '78 when I was twenty eight. Don't remember it being that intimidating. Maybe it's the camera. Only saw about ten people in four days. Clothing optional then. Spectacular soul lifting hike.
Oh. My. Ever. Loving. Lord. 🤯 I don’t know if I adore this to my core or … rather, just dropped dead from fright while watching YT and dreamed I loved it from the After Life Realm. Amazing!!!!! 💯👏🏻
LOL! Thanks so much! It took me years to lessen my fear of heights...which I still have. To this day I can't ride theme park rides. Thanks for watching!
Love the music with this lol. I cried on the hike back anticipating that part again haha- just knowing, one wrong move and you're probably dead -- it's a lot of pressure!
This hike requires getting a permit, so it's not a heavily trafficked trail. Most of crawlers ledge is sort of wide enough to pass, but the section that isn't can be seen before you start (ie, you can see if someone is coming your way). The fisheye effect on the GoPro makes the sketchy section look way worse than it is. The view coming back is much more realistic. The first time we did this hike, we weren't even sure if it was crawlers ledge as it wasn't as scary as we thought it would be. Hope this helps!
@m we aren't putting out lives on hold for more than 2 years.. just got home from a deployment, just got married, and done pushing things back! We are young and able my friend. Oh the beauty of America; home of the free and the brave
Are there any caves and or waterfalls that can be reached before Crawler's Ledge? I want to hike this trail soon with my son and intend to turn back before this ledge 😅
I hiked the Kalalau Trail from Kalalau Beach to Ke’e in July 1995 and don’t recall any ledges like Crawlers. Has the trail been rerouted; or is this someone’s idea of a shortcut???

I agree. It would probably be way more peaceful at night (for me personally) I have a fear of falling. But you can’t fear what you can’t see…or can you? Haha I once jumped off the stratosphere in Vegas they have an assisted free fall. I did it at night and it was horrific but amazing. The daytime would probably be way scarier. I had been drinking that whole night. There’s literally a sign that tells people if they’re too scared to jump, to “hit the Ozone layer bar and grab some ‘liquid courage” “ So that’s what I did! I was so smashed I didn’t even use my local discount. I still mourn the $20 I would’ve saved. Anyway the second I walked out on the plank, it was like the moment of no return. I just jumped I didn’t give myself time to think. But the second I started falling, I truly felt scared from my life and the screams were sucked out of me. It was over so fast but I sobered up within that second. It’s crazy to think that’s the last thing you’ll think about if you ever god forbid committed suicide. All I thought about was “I’m gonna die” I didn’t really think about anything else not my family not regret just “oh shit”
I would climb this with some sort of harness trail to clip on. I’ve just had too many brushes with Mother Nature when I thought I was stronger than her. But I also wouldn’t want to deface this rock. Haha between a rock and a hard place with my view on it! But I bet this trail was super helpful many years ago for natives

How much of this hike would you say are you having to be hyper-focused to not fall? Some comments say that you are like that most the hike. Some comments say the mud ledge after crawler's is the scariest part and most dangerous. I would love to hear your thoughts! We won the lottery for August but now I'm getting pretty nervous about it -Thanks :)
I would estimate that 95% or more of this hike is pretty safe. The hardest part of doing the hike is the constant elevation changes...basically going over multiple ridges in the mountainside. Make sure to prepare well prior and be fully rested about a week before doing it. Doing lots of training hikes with weight allows you to fully enjoy this hike and all it's beauty! Be safe and ENJOY!!!
This is not a heavily traveled trail, as permits are require to hike it. Also, you can see most of Crawler's Ledge before you get on it, so you can just wait if you see someone is already there...and it's not as narrow as the GoPro wide angle (fisheye) makes it look. Hope this helps.
Well, my buddy and a few others are doing this in May. I'm 46yr old, not the best of shape, but I am in the Gym as of an hour ago lol. 2yrs ago we did the Buskskin Gulch which was brutal has hell...so wtf, I'm doing it! Hope I come back to post my video!
Strongly suggest you train with the weight you are planning to carry. The hike is 11 miles one way, but you're going in and out of many valleys, so there is tons of steep incline and decline. Have fun and be safe. Btw, 46 is young! :) ...many years younger than me.
Angel's Landing looks like a cool hike...hopefully one day! This section is not as bad as it looks. The GoPro's "fisheye" effect makes it look a lot worse than it actually is. If you watch the second half of the video, you get a more realistic view of the trail. Thanks for watching! 🤙
I did it when teen and many times since and imo youtube videos are way scarier than the actual ledge. Probably in part bc the areas just before space rock is just as deadly and desensitized me
It's not as bad as it looks. The fish-eye effect of the GoPro distorts things. Check out the second half of the vid ("Heading Back to Ke'e Beach") at 1:55 for a more realistic view.
Meh, I did it 25 years ago carrying my backpack and my ex wife's backpack as well as 12 miles of sniveling ! That trail hile is not for everyone! My ex was even 18 at the time , in good shape, and just broken mentally by the time we hit the switchback rise out of Hanakapiai!
This is nothing! When I hiked it in 1972 it was a 30 degree slope seaward with loose dirt. We used a rope to be sure we didn't slip on to the ledge 100' below. Literally we crawled to get across. They have made it easier to cross I see. Wonder what the torrential rains of Jan. 2018 did to the trail.
