+Laevian Davey no fake, you can find this cover on Kalisia's album named Cybion, first cd is Cybion (space opera concept album) and you can find on the second cd the remastering of their 1995's demo and 4 covers including this one.
How could I forget such a revelation To love without fear, to learn without question How could I regret the meant occasions I must begin this day again Freedom and reason shine through Paddle upon the clouds, one's own canoe How could I Humility take charge of me Drown me in truth's modest waters Loosen your grip identity Free me from an ego's falter Freedom and reason shine through Love too often is only a dream If I am harsh and unkind to myself So I share these attitudes with you Must I try? How could I? Freedom and reason shine through Paddle upon the clouds, one's own canoe Love too often only a dream If I am harsh and unkind to myself So I share these attitudes with you For in this spewing cadence of my pride How could I!
Honestly, I love this alot more than the origional. I love Cynic and all accosiated bands (i.e. Aghora, Gordian Knot, Aeon Spoke, etc.), but this is pretty fuckin sick.
not many bands arround are capable to play this song with such perfection....and the solo....omg one of the most inspiring solos ever thanks pablo for this masterpiece} and thanks kalisia!
There's also Christophe Godin on lead guitar. Kalisia is a fuckin' great band, Cybion is the best album of the decade, and I can't wait the hellfest to see them live!
as a big Cynic fan, this cover isn't bad at all. The vocals also aren't bad either, and the fact they don't put their own spin on the song is good because they respect Cynic so much they probably don't want to make it sound so different.
@747823 The vocoder takes a lot of time to get used to, when I first started listening to Cynic I just read along with the lyrics and I was like damn those lyrics are amazing...now I fucking love the vocoder, it sounds so awesome, I wish it was used more on Traced In Air
Few could get away with covering Cynic's masterpiece, or even dare! But they did and the result's great! They really give their own cool interpretation of it, especially of the ending. But if i had to choose, still prefer the original!
@Mrbungleface The drummer might be average in arch enemy but the guitarist is one of the best i've seen. He isn't particularily fast but that isn't what makes him good. What makes him so amazing is the original and refreshing he constantly produces like no other.
Excellent cover.. Flawless rendition of Jason's solo.. The riffs were well executed... Paul's solo could have been covered better.. but very tight and very, very good overall... Also, it's great to hear a band covering Cynic.. So thumbs up for the effort!
Paul Masvidal plays a guest solo on Kalisia's Loudblast cover. I don't think he could've/would've done so if this band wasn't up to par. I think the vocoder was perfect btw.
It`s the debut album from Kalisia and they worked over 10 years on it. Sure on some parts they have to learn a bit, because the construct sounds particially confusing...as if they wanted putting too much in some songs. But putting this aside it`s a very outstanding album for such a young band. This song here is in my opinion not the best one on the album, but still a great one. At least let`s hope the work on the next album won`t take such a long time.
@Evenhandedview I understand they were death metal vocals in the Focus recordings. But Tony Teegardeners death metal vocals fit the lyrics far better than Angela's death metal vocals...that isn't saying she is bad at death metal vocals, or that its a bad cover...it's just that I feel like she could have put more emotion into her death metal vocals to make it fit what is being said
@blakfloyd Oops! Just read a lil further down the comments, lol. I mistakenly thought it was nothing but a piss match between two commenters at first glance.
Not bad. I guess the drums were not played but wroted in the computer, or unless, recorded with triggers. And the voice is good, even if I hate A.Gossow. But quite good!
Not a bad cover but it just makes me want to turn it off and go listen to the original. I don't have any problems with Gossow's vocals here considering the original growling was already on the high end of the spectrum so her pitch doesn't sound too out of place. Could you imagine her trying to cover Sylvan Houde's vocals from Kataklysm's first album though? Now that would be funnny.
the growls sound just as good as the albums, but im not sure which one i like better. although Masvidals vocals are better. also i dont like some of the parts that they "put there own spin on."
@silversnakeseven Whats with the end of the song though? Arch enemy spewing all over the track with a cheese guitar solo and the drum line from My Apocalypse! hmmmm
Eh. The original is still LIGHTYEARS better than this but considering how many people are able to cover Cynic let alone do it competently, I give these guys a lot of credit. It's definitely enjoyable and they did a nice job.
Cynic actually toured with a female growler for a while... Gossow does sound a bit like Dana Cosley from time to time, but it really is different. Not bad, though. Dunno what happened to Masvidal's solo, though, that part just sounded weird.
Great source material, but this cover is way too literal. They tried to make it sound as close to the original as possible instead of doing it in their own style. I appreciated the solos because they brought a little something different. Still, major props for covering Cynic.
@shadowdustofficial I know, but it's just a remaster of the original master. It sounds decent, but the mix itself needs a fresh coat of paint. Those 2004 remixes on the remastered edition don't count, they are awful.
