Kalle & Harri: The Rovanperä's Journey 

I have a little boy on the way, due in November. This is amazing, this is what I want for my son and I. Not for him to be world champion one day, but a man, his son, and a car, forever bound in memory.

First, hats off to Harri RovanperÄ for being a wonderful dad to raise his son into the path of glory, and the result comes in after 22 years of raising a good "kid" into a level of exception, that stuns the world! Keep going Champ!

I watched those Toyota Starlet videos and thought that we are going to hear that guy in the future. And now... WORLD CHAMPION.

That video made me emotional.... To see this young kid just a Child living up to his dream and became a champ so young as well.

Well proud Dad and he should be, fantastic talented young man. I couldn't be more happier for him. Well done champ.

The similarities between the Rovanperäs and the Verstappens is remarkable. Both youngsters born to rally/race, both prodigious talents at a young age, and both becoming world champion and exceeding their father’s achievements.

I remember watching his dad,driving for Peugeot with a 206 at acropolis rally years ago...

It is a shame that this is what the sport has become. He who has the money, facilities, infrastructure and rally connections already in place, can manufacture their offspring to become a WRC champion if they get them behind a wheel early enough. This goes for all of the rally families - Solbergs, McRaes and Rovenperas. I know this is not just applicable to rallying as similar strategies have also occurred in other sports. The big question is, did very young children like Kalle have the mental maturity at that time, to make their own choice of whether this was what they wanted to pursue, not really knowing the effort and sacrifices (a normal childhood) they would have to make, in order to achieve what their parents wanted them to? As others have mentioned, because Kalle started to drive at such an early age, he's already had his 15+ years to get to be WRC champion. The concern is, he sacrificed his most precious years of childhood to achieve it earlier than WRC champions of the past, who started rallying in their 20s and 30s and became WRC champion before their 40s - those are the ones that had their cake and ate it.

In 2022 we, enthusiasts of motor sports, were treated by two remarkable world championships from two young, out of this world drivers, who not only clinched their respective titles way before the end of the season, but, in essence annihilated the competition. Of course I am talking about Kalle Rovanperä and Max Verstappen. Interestingly both drivers were mentored, and nurtured from a very early age by their respective fathers; Harri and Jos, both of whom raced in the same sport as their sons, and neither one was particularly successful, that is, what Kalle and Max did this season alone obscured their father's entire careers by a huge margin.

Todos podemos decir que vimos como se forjaba un campeón con el starlet aquel en nieve, pero ninguno creíamos que sería tan precoz, hasta que cogió el Skoda r5 en el mundial y empezó a enseñarles a todos lo que estaba por venir. Aunque sea aburrido que siempre gane el mismo creo que tenemos Finlandés para muchos años de mundiales ojalá lleguen más como el. Eres muy grande para lo joven que eres kalle muyyy grande 🙌🙌🙌
