Met. Kallistos was an unparalled teacher of the Gospel, and a man clearly filled with love for his fellow man. For many English-speaking Orthodox, he was one of the guides who started us on the journey he spoke of. Master, Eternal Memory! ☦

"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Phil 1:6). I see why you would want to use the present continuous tense in describing your salvation, but I think we should also express confidence that Christ's work in _has_ begun and will be continued. Otherwise, Jude's doxology would ring hollow rather than triumphant. "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you unblemished in His glorious presence, with great joy-to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority through Jesus Christ our Lord before all time, and now, and for all eternity. Amen ."

One thing that I've pondered is that the concept of "being saved" as a solitary, single event which comes by believing in Jesus Christ and repentance (including a verbal affirmation out loud?), which would (by our reasoning) permit an individual to say "I am saved", would make sense because by the nature of "sacrifice", our works in this life, which (I'm going to assume) is our duty to God, is only a sacrifice if we do it by our own free will, and not out of fear of condemnation, or not as actions which are mandatory on the account of our existence. I must confess, I consider myself to be a gnostic Christian.

With regards to the question "Are you saved?" I hink i would have answered the same as Fr. Kallistos, but in the form of "I'm on it". Not saying is a better answer, just my personal way of expressing it.

You have only one problem with your answer , mr Timothy Richard : mathew 10:19 . The funeral is over, When will you dress the worker's cloth and start to make some work ?

We are not deified. GOD states that we should have no gods before HIM or except Him as GOD. I believe we are instantaneously saved after repentance and accepting Jesus as our Savior. Otherwise, the atonement makes no sense. A better answer would be to say that I am saved and I am wanting to stay saved by living a Christian life. Once saved is not always saved.
